The markings on the tank itself are decals provided in the kit. The flags are all painted on.

It's here!! A slightly modified build. Lionroar tool clasps, DML indy links from another kit, scratchbuilt samurai flags with handpainted kanji.

Got around to applying the decals and finishing the sashimono. The kanji in the flags are all handpainted. Next up is painting the flagpoles, wheels, and exhaust.

Update: Painted the whole thing. Next is detail painting, then decals, then weathering and topcoat. I opted for slightly muted colors for a grittier look.

A slightly modified fun build. I added Lionroar tool clasps, DML indy links from another StuG kit, and scratchbuilt samurai flags using stretched sprue and greenstuff putty. I plan to reprint the stock cloth flags into decals and paint what I can instead. The cloth flags just aren't convincing enough for me.

@Will vale: Wingspan is about 20 cm. It's quite small.

@Sharkdog: Yup, all the panels are shaded. I applied the overall base color first then painted the centers of the panels with a slightly lighter shade. I'm not sure if that's pre or post shading, I'm always confused with both

. I just use whatever method works for the situation. I like my models very subtly shaded to the point that the effect is subliminal

. I do heavy shading only if I don't own the kit and its owner wants it so.

Built OOB. I changed the color scheme by adding a lighter color on the underside (as with most real planes). It's a custom mix of Sky Blue. It was a very easy and smooth build. Nothing broke, cleanup and painting was fast.

BTW, that spot in the middle slot is a scratch from removing the flight stand.

Thanks everyone! I'm really glad at how you guys appreciate the weathering. Everytime I paint these things I always put it mind the scaling. Like, if I make this chipping, how would it look like in full size? or will wear and tear happen to this area?

Doing Scifi, I thought I only continued to do that out of habit, but it's really cool to know other people think that way too!

@struschie: Don't worry. If you've built model kits from the 80's and earlier, the quality is about the same.

@MGmodeler: Thanks! I used Tamiya paints thinned with lacquer thinner throughout. The grey was just an eyeballed mixture of black and white.

Model Gallery / Non-scale Metal Slug Tank

Quite a quick build considering the not-so-good mold quality. Everything can be fixed by a little putty, sandpaper, and patience

Anyway, I added texturing and weldmarks, both out of putty, to give it that cast steel feel. I also replaced the plastic antennae with ones made from syringe.

They included this machined "metal slug" which you could use as a necklace ornament:

Thanks! Yup, it's listed as "Metal Bug" because it's not an official kit. It's actually a plastic clone of a Japanese resin garage kit. Beware though, it seems to me like the plastic is ABS since cement doesn't work on it. Super glue is fine. The molding is also crap by today's standards but it's still better than most 80's and below non-japanese kits.

I used Tamiya paints thinned with Gaianotes thinner. Post-shaded everything including the tracks.

A quick WIP since the build is done.

Beside a real metal slug and a 1/35th figure

Did texturing and weldmarks to give it that rough cast feel (think T34's and Shermans)

Replaced the molded-in antennae with removable ones made with syringes.

Will be priming and painting.

@Greebler elf: I practice a lot, and I'm genuinely interested in painting them. Figure painting has a very different learning curve than other genres so you really have to want to try it to learn it.

@Ezechiel: Yup, they're handpainted. This was a prototype kit sent to us for review so it didn't have decals.

@Greebler elf: I use acrylic for the base colors and enamel for the shading, detailing and camo pattern. For the brushes, I use no. 4 for the base colors, no. 2 for painting the equipment and fleshtones, and no. 1 and 000 for the really small stuff like camo pattern, eyes, buckles, and medals/insignia.

@kat69: I always have a reference of the camo pattern at hand when i paint so I can check if I'm getting the pattern and colors right. I also paint the pattern one dot at a time with a small brush. No shortcuts or any special technique. You really have to have stable hands and good eyesight (or good magnifiers). For the clothes, I usually paint the base coat and apply a wash for the shadows and then drybrush the highlights. You can pull that off for 1/35 and smaller figures, but for larger scales, you have to manually paint the shadows and highlights and blend them together.
