Van Ship

My plan is to make a Van Ship from Last Exile. Maybe not the main van ship but another of similar design.

That’s about as far as I have gotten with progress.  I need to pick up a cheat airplane kit this weekend for a fuselage and some tires from a car kit maybe…  All I have are gundam kits so this should be a fun to play around with other types of kits and experiment.

I will add more pics once I have some material.

I just love the "thirties racer" style, and a triwheel makes it look like a Messerschmit "bubble car". Build it!!!!  Build it!!!

Perhaps a Ju 52 fuselage for the "corrugated" look?

I think the basic body structure will work out great for a fuselage after I remove some of the width by cutting a wedge out.  Then when I put the two peices together I hope to have the back end slightly less in width then the front. So I get more of a teardrop shape then a blocky locomotive for my vanship.

There is actually a very nice garage kit of Klaus's vanship out there.  I have a paper model of it that came in one of the DVDs.  There are also some 1/10 scale figs available.  I have two of those if you're interested.

The 1990s AMT and Monogram Indycar kits have drivers in them, sitting in a recumbent seat. The AMT kits are 1/25 and Monogram's 1/24. I'm actually using a driver from a Monogram kit for my racer project. The main difference is that the Monogram drivers have a hollow back and the AMT guys are detailed front and back.

Both kits can be found fairly cheap these days. Search for "indy car" on eBay's automotive model section. There's a two-fer of AMTs on there now for $5, for example.

AHA!!  I knew I had these somewhere!     I am a huge fan of Range Murata's designs and have a boatload of images on my external hard drive.





I love the dio of the middeck where a lot of the action takes place in the anime.  I thought I had some pix of my paper vanship, but I can't find 'em.  I'll re-take 'em tomorrow when I shoot the masking of Future Girl.

Anyway I got my model in the mail today      I was pretty sure I ordered a 41 but I got a 49' owell im not going to bitch and moan about it seeing how im just going to chop it up.

I want to save the front section of the car to be my front of my vanship. I think I am going to have to add more curves to get the look im going for because its not my 41'

Cut and guled the back section of the car together forming the end of my fuselage and added some supports.
The gundam legs are proxy pilots     I think my picture has back half a little to far away.

Isn't it an odd feeling to chop up a perfectly good model in order to make something else? I always feel a little bad at first... then I get over it.

Heres an update on my progress.  I have almost finished the basic body I need to finish adding the wing and landing gear... Then bondo the hell out
