Well, my son got me again! He asked me if I could build him another character. It's hard to tell him no especially when we both pretty like much the same stuff. In this case it's Benson from The Regular Show. We instantly fell in love with this character! I mean...a gumball machine boss who flies off the handle in the blink of an eye! He's awesome!
YEAH HE IS!
Here's is the start of my build. The head will be made of a 4" plastic globe putting the height of the finished figure somewhere around 7-10"....
....his face and eyes....
....the start of his "hat"....
....next, his body. It started off as an old, dirty paint plastic paint jar. Then it was laminated with sheet styrene. The bits also styrene....

Just a quick little story. I bought the game for my 11 year old son at the time. We game together and he wanted me to go first. Right at the beginning of the game when you meet CTrap, I found myself lost in exploring every angle of the robot! I must have studied him for about 20 minutes or so...my son ever patient until finally he quietly asked, "Um, dad, are you going to play the game?" We started cracking up! He knows how big of a dork I am for building robots and he immediately asked if I could build him one....fast forward to current day. It's been a long, slow process but worth it!
Oh and I thought I would post early progress of a couple of parts for the red, foul-mouthed punk version. The small one is the bracelet saw.

I had a three day weekend and I spent most of that time working on finishing this master. I have to admit, I'm pretty proud of it!
I added last minute details to the top head plate. I re-did the "shoulder" joint....the one in the arm-pit recess.
I finally jumped into the arm work! Man, it was a lot of work! I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best way to master the arm while allowing the builder to pose it the way they want to. Which is why it is broken up in several pieces. I think it's better this way instead of a generic static in-kit pose. The arm consists of the upper arm, elbow, three forearm parts, the wrist and 2 flappers of a hand. As you can tell, there are a few more detail pieces left to add but nothing major. Also, by breaking up the arm into pieces, I tried to minimize the amount of thin weak resin areas once casts are made. So, I will include metal tubing, wire and hoses. The metal tubing will eliminate the need for reinforced resin, the thickness will stay in-scale and it will be strong enough once assembled.
Also, I finished the wheel struts and how they attach to the figure.
All parts in the pics are held with tack glue. Please let me know what you think.

Sweet! I'm glad you feel that way. Oh, and I hate to prematurely announce this but if you like game robots...like say..... a 7" Clank....I might be able to answer any needs for one soon.
As for this robot....there will be more than one version. The set plans as of now is a run of the red punk CT version after the regular version. I'll more pics as the parts are ready. Maybe eventually more versions will come.

Another update. Everything is done except for the arms and wheel strut. I originally ordered the wrong tubing so I have to wait for the right ones to arrive. Aside from that, I just need to do some minor cleanup here and there.

Start of my V2 wheel. First one was off in dimensions...

...shaved down foam, now filling with Aves...
...wheel done, starting on treads...
...where I am at currently. I had to take off some treads due to miscalculating the spacing. The game model has 21 treads, I could have added another for 22 to easily correct my spacing but I decided to keep it accurate.

nico, yeah, I filled it with 2-part expanding foam, packed it in and sealed with Aves. As planned, the wheel will be a solid piece. There will be a clear rod going through the wheel to the body. It should be virtually invisible. Mostly all the parts are laser cut.

The rib frames were stuck together back-to-back and will now be filled with foam, sanded down, sealed, and then the treads will be individually added last.
