Model Gallery / G-System - 1/72 RX-93 Hi-Nu
« on: January 10, 2012, 12:22:38 AM »
This fantastic kit is the 1/72 G-System RX-93 Hi-Nu Perfect Grade Strike conversion. This was a commission project that was started in early 2011 as a “mental health” break from the 1/35 Gp03 Stamen. The project came to a halt in early June when I had found out that my younger brother was diagnosed with cancer. I finally got back into working on it in about August, and finished up the last tiny bit before Christmas. The entire project was pretty much complete around October, all that was left was the shield. Going back and forth between San Francisco and New York almost every other weekend for 5 months left little to know time to really work on much.

The kit uses most of the internal frame and most of the arms from the PG Strike, but the rest is discarded. The conversion is very well thought out, and really utilizes the inner frame quite well. Leaving all of the articulation in tact (weight issues aside) it can hold most poses if you are patient with it.

Over all the build was really straight forward, with minimal fitment issues, and basic clean up. The kit includes a ton of metal parts and photo-etch which really help to draw attention to the already awesome kit.

Paint is all Mr.Color lacquers as usual, with Mr. Super Metallic Iron being used for the internals.

Model Gallery / SD Crossbone X2
« on: May 04, 2011, 10:30:00 PM »
This was a super quick 1 day mental health build that I did as a little gift for my wife. We had been at the local hobby shop after picking up lunch, and she saw the SD Gundams in the display case and asked if I would build one for her. So after a bit of deciding, she picked out the SD Crossbone X2 Gundam. She loved the little skull on its head. Nothing too major on this one, basic seam fixing and a few custom metal parts to add some flare.

Paints are all Mr.Color lacquers. Custom metal bits from Mechaskunk. Waterslides from SamuelDecal. Aurora Film on the eyes from AkoHobby.

Model In-Progress / G-System 1/35 EX-S - commission
« on: January 24, 2011, 10:22:41 PM »
Assembly of the massive 1/35 EX-S has begun! This specific build is another commission for the owner of the Sazabi and Nu Gundam that I completed last year. In between paint coats and waiting for paint to arrive for the Gp03 I started assembly on the EX-S.

Surprisingly the kit is going together a lot faster then I had thought it would. The parts breakdown is making it pretty easy to put together and thanks to liberal use of threaded rods and nuts and bolts it's holding all of its weight! The shear size of this kit is amazing.

Capitalism Corner* / FS: Hot Toys Figures
« on: January 18, 2011, 10:59:40 AM »
Hey -

Just clearing out a bit of room in my collection, I have the following items for sale:

All 3 figures come with their original boxes and packaging. They are in mint condition and have been stored in glass cases in a smoke free home. All accessories are intact and accounted for. All of the lights on Iron Man have working batteries and function.

The Abigail Whistler figure has one tiny flaw on her backpack that holds her arrows. The fabric strap has come loose from the backpack part. This can easily be glued back into place with no harm to the part.

Shipping will be free for all buyers in the United States, and $15 USD for International buyers.

1/6 Briareos - $275USD obo
1/6 Iron Man Mark 3 Battle Damage ver. - $350USD obo
1/6 Abigail Whistler (Blade 3) - $125USD obo

Model Gallery / 1/100 NZ-666 Kshatriya
« on: January 03, 2011, 12:11:30 AM »
One of my favorite new mobile suit designs, this kit was another one of my many commission projects. This kit is the SMS version of the 1/100 NZ-666 Kshatriya from Gundam Unicorn. The build is pretty straight forward and is almost entirely just out of box. The biggest difference is that I chose to incorporate a flying pose and rubble pile into the final display. Almost all of the Kshatriya’s that have been built have been posed in the standard standing pose with the shoulder binders extended.

I really wanted to set my build apart from the others and make it really unique. In doing so, I also choose to change the tones of the greens (at the request of the owner) to a more subtle almost military pallet. Instead of the bright neon green used in the anime and normal builds I choose to use Mr. Color russian green for the main body parts, with a more olive green accent for some of the secondary body parts.

The build roughly took me about a month, with about a week and a 1/2 off due to holiday down time. Enjoy!

Model In-Progress / 1/100 Kshatriya
« on: December 12, 2010, 11:23:31 PM »
Another commission project, this one is the 1/100 Kshatriya from Gundam Unicorn. The owner asked that the paint job be more military based instead of the super neon green that the Kshatriya is usually painted. I choose to use a deep olive green for the accent color, and russian green for the main color. The two pair together really well, and still have the same spirit of the original color scheme while being much more subdued.

In talking with the owner about the planning and such I came up with the idea to have the Kshatriya in a flying pose, rather then standing.  All of the other Kshatriya’s I’ve seen built have been the same basic standing pose, and I really wanted to do something different with this one. The base will be detailed with some random rubble and metal paneling as well.

I started the build 2 weekends ago, and have completed almost the entire kit. Only the shoulder binders and a few small items remain to be painted.

Model Gallery / 1/72 G-System MSN-06S Sinanju
« on: November 21, 2010, 12:16:20 PM »
This build was for a client in Greece, who’s only request was to have the orange gradient on the shield and to keep a similar color scheme to the G-System display model. He also requested a matte finish instead of the glossy finish done by G-System.

Overall the build was pretty easy, however the initial build and prep on the internal frame was quite tedious. The design isn’t quite perfect so often the  gear mechanism in the joints would break, or would get stuck. The frame also had lots of resin”sludge” in the gaps and corners that needed cleaning up.  After the frame was finished, the remainder of the build was really straight forward.  Overall build time is probably about 3 months, but it was spread out over the course of about 8 months due to slow down and lack of work time available.

Paint is all Mr. Color custom mixes and Mr. Super Metallics. The gold trim is Gaia Notes Bright Gold.

Thanks to everyone who followed the WIP thread and left comments!   8)

Model Gallery / Volks 1/4 Mai Shiranui
« on: September 02, 2010, 11:07:43 PM »
This was finished a few months ago and I just finally got around to taking photos of the kit tonight.

Another one of the fantastic 1/4 scale resin figures from Volks, this one is of all-time classic fighting game girl Mai Shiranui. This kit was picked up at the Volks store in Akihabara on one of my trips to Japan. In visiting the store and seeing all of the fantastic kits built and on display in the many showcases I noticed that all of the Volks girls were painted in a way that their skin had a bit of translucency to them. So after doing some research, I figured out how it was done and this is the first kit I attempted to re-create that painting style on. The key to this style  and keeping the translucency is to prime the kit with a clear primer then paint the kit with clear colors instead of opaque.

So this kit was primed with Mr. Metal Primer (which is clear) and then painted with several custom mixes of clear Mr.Color paints added to Mr. Color Gloss Clear base. I really loved how the kit turned out and will be using this style on more of my figures in the future. The skin seems to have such a radiance that isn’t captured when using the opaque skin tones. The camera picked up a bit more of the pink tones in the shading then I would have liked, but it's not as apparent in person so its ok.

Model Gallery / 1/35 UCHG Zaku Head
« on: July 31, 2010, 10:58:59 PM »
This was finished a bit ago and was a quick mental health build after finishing the Nu Gundam. Inspired by FFoo's UCHG Zaku Head and the awesome Japanese builder who inspired Foo. The "horn" is scratch built from pla-plate and the LED mono-eye is an Adler's nest piece. Paint is all Mr.Color, with the magenta color being a custom made clear color using Mr. Color clear gloss and Higgins drawing ink. Pearl finish is Mr. Color white with Mr. Color blue pearl over it.

Enjoy!

Model In-Progress / G-System 1/72 Sinanju
« on: July 17, 2010, 08:35:10 PM »
This is a commission project for a client in Greece that has been on my workbench for a bit now. With the Sazabi and Nu Gundam out of the way, I have been able to finally start working on the next projects. I have been bouncing back and forth between the 1/35 Gp03 and this 1/72 Sinanju, both from G-System. This is the first of G-system’s new internal frame models that I have really worked on (I did assemble my 1/60 Kampfer which has the same style new internal frame, however its cast in standard cream resin and was never finished) that is cast in the colored resin.

While I really like the idea of the internal frame, it has been really difficult and frustrating to assemble. I have most of the frame cleaned up and assembled and have started working on adding the Sinanju parts. The internal frame is the same as most of the other 1/72 kits and you then swap or add parts that are specific to the kit it comes with.

Model Gallery / G-System 1/72 Nu Gundam Evolve commission finished!
« on: June 30, 2010, 11:48:03 PM »
So after about a month and a half or so of work the Nu is finished. Thankfully G-system was able to replace the missing parts for the funnels, and I was able to finish this up today and take the final photos. I haven't taken the final shots with the Sazabi yet, but plan on doing so either tomorrow night or over the weekend. I really just wanted to get the stand alone shots done, and didn't feel like moving the entire Sazabi to take pictures tonight. Overall a relatively pain free build, my only complaint is the missing parts. Enjoy the photos!

I am looking to sell my lightly used Kyosho Inferno GT Calsonic 350z RC Car.

The car features are:

4.6cc gas (nitro) engine
All wheel drive
Fully adjustable suspension
2 speed automatic transmission
Vented disc brake
1/8 scale painted Calsonic 350z JGTC series body (HUGE car)

I have 2 bottles of gas (Not sure how I would ship these), remote, tools, glow plug warmer, infrared temperature gauge, and 2 sets of wheels (one with slicks, one with regular).

Super fast car, runs great. I just don't have the time to really enjoy it anymore. Kyosho offers an STi body for this car, but I never got around to buying it.

Model In-Progress / G-System 1/72 Nu Gundam Evolve commission
« on: May 17, 2010, 10:25:08 PM »
Hello all!

Back again with another project that's on the workbench. While in between working on the Gp03, I've been working on getting this painted up and finished. Compared to the Sazabi, this kit is relatively simple and painting and prep has been a breeze. The only downside is the kit was missing one of the round elbow joint covers so I had to make one myself. I found a plastic electrical connector that was the same size as the original piece, cut it down, and reshaped the final bit with the epoxy putty. It's not 100% perfect, but once its on the arm it looks like it should be there and is hard to tell.

Other then that pretty straight forward so far. I mixed up some custom colors again for this build, using Mr. Color lacquers. The main white tone has a tiny hint of purple to it, while the black parts are actually a very dark blue. Usual metallic parts abound, this time I wanted to do something a bit different and made my own clear purple. I used Mr. Color gloss clear base, thinned, and then added some violet Higgins drawing ink to the mix until I had the shade I wanted. It sprayed fantastically, and dried to a nice even tone in about 5 - 10 minutes.
