Matt your paintjobs are always superb.  Great job on this guy!  It seems it has been no small undertaking with the amount of time it took you

I set out to do a speed build, and here it is. 3 weekends, 7 days total, 50-60 hours total. Some minor mistakes, but I am overall happy with it. I needed a quick build to get me back into building before I started a couple commissions, and this was an easy model that I had been thinking about for a long time.  The cast was from G-System-Best and was a recast of the SMS version. It really was a nice cast with all parts present and no bubbles.  I have loved this design since I first saw it and it was on of the first kits I bought.

Plamo colour:
- grey surface primer
- Gloss topcoat
- Matte topcoat

Tamiya acrylics:
- Olive green with bits of grey and white
- JB green
- Black green
- black, white etc

Mr Hobby:
- Super Metallic copper
- super metallic brass
- super metallic silver chrome
- clear green

I preshaded the parts and reverse washed the sleeves.

Thanks for the kind words!

mvm - This indeed is the kit you sold to me.  Glad to have done you proud haha.  When is your next kit going to be coming out?

Well I started it 9 months ago, but it's now finished.  I had started the project with the intent to enroll in a competition, but I put it aside as I got distracted by life (and video games).  Now I am just happy I completed it, and despite some minor errors I would say I am overall very pleased.

Painted primarily with Plamo Colour paints, details with Mr Super Metallics.

For size comparison with 1/100 AGX-041

I feel rusty now lol. C&c always welcomed!

Shark Dog I always love your wips.  Keep the juicy details coming!  Love your work thus far.

Amazing job!  Great pictures!  Really shows that you put a lot of love into these guys, and the decay is fantastic.

If I had one minor suggestion, the decals look a little too crisp for the type of mood I feel you're creating.  Perhaps try to chip them with a toothpick?  Or is it too late?

Painting/Priming / Re: Mr. Sufacer and Primer Questions (post 'em here)

Best primer on the market in my humble opinion is Plamo Colour's gray primer.

Flat, even coat the first time, if you thin it properly (2 part thinner: 1 part primer), and you can handle it after it dries.

Matt you continue to impress! Your work is stellar on this kit.  Thanks for the lighting tutorial, I'd love to hear how deep down the rabbit hole you go with the details with lighting (i.e. flash power, shutter, exposure, aperture, etc).  You really are an expert in the photography field, so it's great to have your assets in the community!

Detail work on this guy is awesome, I'm sure your commissioner is a happy man!

Transplant?  Sorry to hear, mate!  Operations like that are never fun.  Glad to hear you're back on pace!

Looks simply fantastic my friend.  How tall do you think this kit will be when you are all finished?

I am in love.  How much do you think this will cost for a copy of this bad boy?

I cannot wait to see it fully painted.  Could you take some pics of the whole body from a wider angle?

Thanks everyone!

Sharkdog - I'm planning on something like a shipyard where they receive lots of crates, and it's just rotting away, but I still don't know.  Not a whole lot of options to choose from for the industrial side of things.  I've been pouring through the train websites and have only found a few possible options.

Mvm - Thanks man!  I can't wait to see you try your hand at some weathered builds as well, it would be awesome to see.  And for the color scheme, my wife actually bought me Tamiya Flat Blue for a stocking stuffer last Christmas, and I told her I loved it so much, I would make it a main color on one of my builds.  I think it went perfectly for this one.

jurasikfrank - Thanks!  All the credit goes to the Nikon D7000 and Photoshop Lightroom haha.

mtomczek - Thank you!  The weathering was fun, but realizing that nearly each piece went through a 24 step process makes you feel... like a bit of an OCD person or something.

Jin Seo - On my blog I have a wip and some tutorials on this technique!

@ Hunter and MGModeler - Thanks guys!  It's humbling and just nice to hear kind words from folks who also make stellar builds themselves!

So after months of learning and fun and some stressing out, I have finished this bad boy for the end of my 2011.  I learned lots of techniques for weathering on this, and while it's not as 'realistic' in some areas as I would have liked, the overall feeling of this model is what I was wishing to achieve.  I appreciate everyone's feedback on this kit, the comments are always worthwhile.  This kit was a ton of fun to build and was a design I feel in love with when I first dove into the hobby.

I have a diorama planned for this guy, but I won't be starting it for awhile.  I'm sort of burnt out on this particular style of weathering for the moment (as you can understand haha).  I'll be starting that one after a few kits.

Onto the pics!

Some close ups:

Comments are ALWAYS appreciated and welcomed!  Feedback is helpful too!

Looking great so far bro, sorry to hear about the trouble with the frame.  I was actually considering getting this one eventually - do you think I should despite the design oversights?

Hey Luca!  I hope things are well!  I have a quick question - I pre-ordered this through Amazon, and it has a ship date of December 5, but it still hasn't shipped yet.  Any word on when this will be released?  I'm SUPER looking forward to this book.

Lame about the paint lifting, but I'm loving the colors so far my friend!  Your paint jobs are always superb.  Can't wait to see those details painted!

Simply amazing stuff good sir.  Paintjob is flawless, and I'll be taking cues from you for building my diorama!

You have much to be proud of! The details really show - all of the time you invested really paid off.

Minor update, but a big hurdle was overcome!  I lost my antennae/horns that came with the model somehow a while ago, so I had to think of something to put on where they go.  As I was throwing away a small plastic rod, I realized it could be bent into shape and it would stay that way!  So I primed, painted and aged the suckers.  Check it out!

And just minor pics that speak for themselves.

C&C Always appreciated!

I've been busy, honest!  I believe I am 95% complete with the lower half of the body.  I have two parts to finish (if you can tell which ones they are you get kudos), and I'll be complete.  Looks pretty good so far in my opinion.  I will probably be 'dusting the kit as well once I am finished to make it look a bit more faded too.

I have primed, rusted and salted the entire top half of the body.  In doing so, I am now missing a couple of relatively important pieces - the horns!!!  What to do....I will probably head to home depot and try to find similar looking parts.
