Well, I'm 6'3" tall and when I'm standing on the palette with it I'm looking at it's chin more or less. Tops of the beam sabers have to be about 7 feet up.

It's been a busy year for me and I've tended to try to spend my time building instead of posting on the internet so I put something up on my site and then think, next time I'm online I'll link it up on the forums but that hasn't really happened. It's been about a year since I put my Hasegawa Valkyrie aside and got sucked into several projects involving either our local Those Gundam Guys group/club/thing as well as some local Gundam-oriented businesses. The Valkyrie is finally back on the bench and I'm finally making time to post.

Nice weathering. I thought the shading was kind of heavy but like Hunter Rose said everything looks right in the close ups where you see the suit has had some wear.

Looks great and the cockpit looks really good especially considering the kit's cockpit feels kind of like chunky plastic to me compared to real aircraft kits. The only thing I don't like is the white leading edge of the rudder. It kind of doesn't fit the rest of the scheme and makes the small rudder look even smaller. Great build, though, makes me wanna get out my kit and start building it!

This is fantastic and I while I realize you were really focused on the laser pointer effect I'd say screw the laser pointers this is an awesome diorama without any lighting effects at all. All the detail in the diorama is fantastic. I was trying to explain to my friend who is going to the GBWC that the level of competition there is so high and that my entry last year was really sub-par because while it was a scratch-built hangar diorama it really lacked all that fantastic busy little detail that is all over your diorama. When I told him how poor I thought my entry was he kind of looked at me like "What are you talking about?" I think I'll show him your dio and say, "That's what I'm talking about."

It's an older kit from Wave. I built the Patraqushe Mirage. It's probably 80% the same kit, only the head and equipment really looks different to me, and I can't say it was the greatest kit. There were some fit issues, some rough seam lines to fix and it wanted to fall over a lot, but the detail was pretty nice in places and it's obviously got resin kits beat on price. Wave has a newer line of FSS kits that's better from everything I hear, but I only have one in a box so I can't say for sure.

Okay, time for the "Official" Photos. I didn't do a WIP because there weren't any mods on the kit other that the basic ones people do to avoid masking and allow you to paint parts and put them together afterwards.
It's a simple little kit with pretty good surface detail. Unfortunately the glossy white paint and glossy pearl and glossy glosscoat overwhelmed some of the panel lines so the panel line wash is hit-and-miss. If I ever do something like this again (and it's possible, I've thought of doing the MG Wing I have in stock colors but pearly, and I have a NG 00 Raiser that I don't have any particular plans for that might end up ANA as well) I'll take some time and score all the panel lines on the kit a little deeper.
Fixing the seamlines on the lower legs was a pain in the ass because there's a lot of very small raised and recessed detail. That was probably about 20% of the build time there. The kit was a weekend to snap together, about 12 days to do the rounds of putty/prime/sand which I did pretty obsessively since it was going to be glossy, a 1-week break to help Bluefin Distribution detail up the 1/12 Unicorn they got from Bandai (I mainly did the decals on it: http://funakatown.com/images/Unicorn-7.JPG) and then a week to paint, decal and panel line. That last week would have been two, but I had a special time allowance from the wife to get it done by AX. She owed me for all the time she needed at the end of her school year (she's a teacher).

Long time no finish-a-model but I keep getting sucked into side projects (I'm still "officially" working on a Hasegawa Valkyrie since last year). I hope to wrap up a couple projects in the next few months that I've been working on and are anywhere from 50-80% complete. But onto the post...
So as part of the 30th Anniversay of Gundam, ANA (All Nippon Airways) painted up one of their 777s with a full-size Gundam and Bandai has created a special edition set of Gunpla. Unfortunately you have to fly ANA to get one. You order it from the sky mall catalogue.
But there I was last December, actually flying ANA from Hong Kong to Tokyo...
But I still couldn't get one because I don't live at a Japanese address!
Well, that's OK because the kit has a pearl finish I'd have to strip and peel-and-stick stickers I'd have to, well, peel-and-stick.
So I grabbed a G30th HG Gundam kit (while I was at Shizuoka, you know, seeing the 1:1 Gundam
) and made my own:
This was kind of a rush build to get it out by Anime Expo (literally started painting it last Saturday morning), so it was fun, but not perfect. I used Mr. Crystal Color pearl paint (Sapphire Blue and Diamond Silver) over regular blue and white paint. It just looks metallic in the pictures, and the white is more pearly than the blue, but I like the effect. I hope the Bandai guys at Anime Expo get a kick out of it. I'll take some better pictures after Anime Expo is over.

I got a new computer from Dell and while I was at it I got Photoshop Elements 9 from them. I knew from my laptop that my old PSE 4 doesn’t work with Windows 7, so it was time for an upgrade.
When my PC arrives, what do you know, it comes with PSE8 installed AND a disk, so I could install it in my laptop. So, I put aside the PSE 9 box and got to work setting up my new PC and migrating everything over.
When I finally got back to PSE 9 to return it, it was past Dell’s 21-day return period. That’s a pretty damn short return period considering it took me 14 days just to get my PC…
Anyway, PSE is really good for working out color schemes like this:

Very cool to see this build. I got this kit also (the last six months have been too much good stuff in the model world, it's killin' me). I REALLY like what you did with the cockpit. Those decals are UGLY and I thought they really blew it with the smoke-colored clear pieces both on the canopy but especially on the instruments. If they had been clear you could have put the decals behind the clear parts like lenses. your LED really looks great and gives the instruments a depth that decals or paint wouldn't have accomplished.

Okay, there's something wrong with me. I have 60 pictures of a kit that isn't even primed yet...
Anyway, I added some detail to the main thrusters as well as the reactor missile thrusters, which were just a flat plate:
Then I went to work painting the cockpit. It's like a kit in and of itself. You have to paint it, then clearcoat it. Then decal it. The clearcoat it. Then do a wash. Then clearcoat it. Then drybrush it. Did it all in a weekend of short spurts of work followed by waiting for clearcoats to dry. Those hasegawa decals are THICK it took a lot of MicroSol just to get them to stay in place, let alone conform to the shapes in the cockpit. Here's a series of pics showing the progression:
Starting last weekend I decided this kit needs more decals so I started rendering this. It will go in the circles on the side of the Super Booster Packs. I'm going to make a few more things like numbers and stuff and also some decals for my VF-25 while I'm at it. In the meantime the kit is primed and I'm doing round two of fixing seam lines.
