Anyone know a brand that makes metallic gunmetal in lacquer for airbrushing?

Thanks a bunch!

Got it! Thanks guys.

Is it safe to clear coat Tamiya enamel paint with lacquer based Mr. Super Clear?

And a bonus question: Is Mr. Super Clear safe to coat over Alclad metallic paint?

Than you!

Found the answer.

Reverse wash

*This is just a reference for future members if they happen to be seeking this as well

I just found a video on youtube that shows a modeler shading with metallics over black, its at the very end.

Wondering how this is done. Please advise.

For example:

On this chest section of the PG GP01. I know the whole piece was painted in metallic silver first. How are they getting the black paint into the crevices and and recessed area to give it this 2 tone look? Is this done through a wash, masking and spraying, or simply just hand painting the dark areas?

Another example is the leg before and after:

Also on this booster pack:

Here is the link to this painters work on the GP01.

Thank you all in advance.

My guess would be that the base is metallic gun metal with a post shade of black or dark gray on the edges...or is it the other way around with a black or dark gray base with metallic high lights? Thanks.

Painting/Priming / How to achieve this metallic look for gundam frame?
« on: January 11, 2010, 04:00:19 AM »
Sorry I am new to all of this and still learning. Can some one tell me how to achieve this dark metallic look for the frame of this pg strike? I am really liking the frame color of this strike and would love to replicate this look for the frame of my pg 00.

As far as you can tell from the picture, what color paint is used for the base and highlight/shading on this frame?

If possible, can someone list a step by step on achieving this look starting from the base coat?

Thank you in advance, would really appreciated!

Sorry I am new to this. I am looking to buy Mr. Color lacquer paints. Are all the Mr. Color paints that Hobbywave sells Lacquer based? Reason I ask is because I am confused, I thought Mr. Color paints are lacquer, but on the Hobbywave website under the Mr. Color paint section, on the top, it says:

"Solvent based acrylic paint, Mr. Color is of the highest quality acrylic paint in the world. Its tone, balance, gloss and color richness are the best. Paints for brushing and sprays are available to use as you desire."

I assume it is acrylic based Mr. Color paint they are selling?

Thank you.
