Ultimate WIP: 3 figures at once!

Yes, you read the title right. School's is almost out and now that I don't really have anymore classes, I've got to get all the pent up building energy out of my system.

I will be building 3 figures simultaneously. Alucard and Alexander Anderson from Hellsing along with Deunan Knute from Appleseed.



These are going to be fairly straightforward builds with fairly simple dioramas. I intend to make a side table for Alucard though if I can find some wine glasses that fit the scale. I'm also considering cobblestone for both Hellsing figures if I can figure out how to make it.

I originally bought Deunan with the intent to modernize the head, but now that I actually see it up close, I kinda like it.

I have a Brief Cal test to study for and these kits smell like Bondo so while they sit in the purple power, I'm going to study.

Deunan was a bad cast for me, but turned out good in the end. It's a fun kit. Good luck!

I actually almost didn't buy her after reading through your WIP on her. Once I opened the package, I was relieved to see that everything looked pretty good. E2046 did a really good job on her. Hobbyfan's got nothing on E2046's quality. I have a little bit of puttying and resculpting to do, but all of that is pretty much centralized into the gun holsters.

I may have some more to post in a few hours if I can finish up my some more math review so let the fun begin!

Nah, fan fiction isn't my thing. On top of that, the 2 animes don't relate to each other at all. Deunan is just the oddball of the group. Now if I can only find a Briarieos...

Wow! I didn't know that. I was at an anime store the other day that had some Hobbyfan recasts and they looked like crap compared to what I get from E2046. That's strange they both use the same supplier.

Figures definitely are fun. I don't know why, but they're strangely addictive. I have plans for a C.C. after this if I can get some more money that won't interfere with my Botcon funds.

I've made some progress on Deunan over the past couple hours inbetween math review work.

I'd like to thank FF for doing a detailed explanation on how he fixed his guns. While my gun holsters were pretty bad, they're weren't anything like what FF's were. I shaved off everything that wasn't related to the guns and filled in the low areas on the legs. From there, I was able to resculpt the leg details and make the guns look good.



I've also got most of the pins set in place. All that's left to do to Deunan before primer are a few pin holes and I need to add some putty to fill in the small gaps where the legs and arms meet the torso. Overall, the easiest GK I've done so far.

The only real problem with the kit is the gate mark on the head, but it's just a matter of sanding it down and smoothing the area out.

I'm going to start work on Alexander tomorrow while I wait for putty to dry on Deunan.

They may have been older kits. I know they have used a ton of different casting factories in the past, but these days I do know that they share the same places with E2046.

I got a good bit done today. I sanded out most of the rough areas and have the seams on Deunan's legs taken care of. The only real problem I had with the legs was getting them aligned and fitted properly to stand straight when glued to the torso. It took some creative pinning, but once I got them straight the putty work was easy. Also, it's not pictured, but I applied putty to the right arm to fill in the gap. That still needs some sanding. She should be ready for the first coat of primer by Thursday.

I was planning on starting Alexander today, but I had a little too much to do to get ready for my final. Instead, I started on Alucard's chair. So far, I got all the uneven areas sanded down and I have the sides glued in. I have to shave off some excess, but that's not much of an issue. I can't put the seat in yet as I need to have Alucard's body assembled so I can see how low I need it to be.



Lastly, I've picked out Deunan's colors. I'm thinking about using a medium blue for the body and I want to pick out the armour details with a dark grey. I wanted to paint her armour as I saw it in the first Appleseed movie so I think those will be good colors for the armour. I'm going for a 80's/modern blend here so if anyone has any suggestions then feel free to let me know.

If anyone is wondering how I manage to get so much done while studying for a final it's because I don't really build during the day. I'm a bit of a night owl and I do my best work between 11:30 and 2:00 AM.

As you can see in the first pic, I've got a fair number of the parts pinned and a lot of putty action going on. Alexander needed more than just Aves so I broke out the Mr. Putty. I sanded it down after a couple hours of drying.

I've also started Alucards head. His hair was in 3 pieces and thankfully didn't require a whole lot of sanding. The big unforseen problem came when I test fitted the hat. There was a noticeably large gap between his head and the hat so that's why you see all the putty on top of his cranium. I need to do a little more sanding there, but the head looks pretty good now. His legs and boots came together quite nicely. I had to fill the bottoms of the botts with superglue, but that was it.



I've also started priming parts. I did this because unlike my first 2 GKs, Alucard and Alexander have seams that can only be taken care of once the seams below them are done. I'm also going to blend in the ridges on Alucard's shoulders so they look more natural which I why I need to sand out the waist seam first.

Alexander still needs some more sanding apart from what's already done in the pic, but he's coming along nicely.

Deunan is almost ready for paint. There are a couple areas here and there that I'm can fix pretty quick with some superglue spot filling, but other than that, she's good to go.

I was staring at Alucard's chair and found it to be pretty bare. I looked at the finished kit image that came with the kit and while I don't like how they painted it, I did like the idea of a cross. With Alucard being a demonic creature though, I decided to invert the cross. It's taped on as I need to do some more sanding, but I wanted to see how it would look.

Huh, weirdly enough, my GF has one of those Alucard kits.  First resin model I saw IRL that wasn't made by an Asian person, at the time.   I really like the look of Deunan, she's pretty tempting to get hold of...

Who sculpted Alucard? I know like nothing about the kit. I know there's an Alucard with book and an Integra that all have the same chair, but I don't know much else apart from that. I'm assuming the chair means they all had the same sculptor. Whoever made it though, did a beautiful job.

Now that my final is over, I can focus on these more. I figured out why the Alucard's I've seen don't have the shoulder seams done. The arms are going to make him a pain in the neck to paint properly, but I demand seamless shoulders! The waist wasn't as bad as I thought. Once he's in the chair, almost everything from the seam is hidden. I took care of what was visible and left it at that.



I've also started on the bases. I spread out plaster onto the bases that were for both Alexander and Alucard, but Alucard's base warped to the point of being unusable. I need to go to the craft store now. Since Alexander's base was still in good shape, I drew and carved in all the lines to make cobble stone. I used a wire brush to rough it all up afterwards. It came out pretty good. I used a series of greys over a black base followed by some black ink to do the lines. I was tempted to make it a little more real, but this is for an anime figure, so the current amount of detail is perfect for what I need. The streak on the stone was an error that is covered by Alexander's foot.

Moving right along.

I'm a little tired of putty and sanding at the moment, so I've started painting parts that I know for sure are done and ready for paint. I primed Alucard's head, hands and boots along with Alexander's and Deunan's heads.

Alexander and Deunan were given my basic anime flesh tone while Alucard received a paler version. All I did was add a lot of white to the mix. I also painted Deunan's body medium blue.



I also started the detailing on Deunan. I'm giving all the areas that will be dark grey a black basecoat. I haven't finished applying all the black yet and I still need to do a few touchups in areas that are finished, but she's coming along nicely. Once I get all the black down, I'll be able to start the shading and weathering.



Also, I decided against the inverted cross on Alucard's chair in favor of a pentagram. I carved it into the bare resin so it has a chiseled appearance. It's kinda hard to see in the pic though.

Deunan's looking good! As for the base warping, plaster is very wet and will dry over a week or 2 completely eve when seemingly done. I found this out by leaving some seemingly dry plaster on an instruction sheet. Very wrinkly the next morning.

I've been busy and forgot to post updates.

I just finished Alucard, but I still need to do his chair. For now, you can enjoy this pic:



I need to touch up the bottoms of his boots from when I did all the worn leather, but he's good to go for the most part. Everything was hand painted apart from his flesh, hat, and the cloak.

His cloak and hat were preshaded with Tamiya hull red followed by a special mix of the preshade with red, orange, and a bit of green.

The hardest part of Alucard were the Cromwell symbols on his hands. The decals the kit came with were red and didn't look like the symbols in the show so I'm saving them for something else. I almost left the symbols out completely until I noticed a sharp pencil on my desk. It took a lot of patience, but I was able to draw in the symbols and they look great. I'm glad I went ahead and put in the symbols.

Alexander is giving me all kinds of grief. I no sooner finish one thing then I find another. He's got a couple more days of sanding and putty ahead of him. I have started painting his head though. I just don't have a pic at the moment.
