Well what started as a a Sunday break ended up into a 4 month marathon build of this awesome kit. It went together very smoothly with only 2 very small hiccups with some paint lifting. Other than that it went off with out a hitch.

Stats:

8 lbs
roughly 365 parts
12 cans of Krylon Primer
5 bottles of Mr. Color GX Astray Red
3 bottle of Mr. Color GX White
5 bottles of Mr. Color Black Grey
2 bottles of Mr. Color GX Black
3 bottle of Alclad Steel
2 bottles of Alclad Matte top coat
and several other assorted colors
India Ink pens for panel lines (my new favorite technique)
Prep and pinning 5 weeks
Painting 7 weeks
Dry Transfers 20 hours
Panel Lines 10 hours
Photography 3 hours
Approximately 275 hours of work

This was a fairly quick build only taking about 5 days.  It was a very good kit for being a non-Bandai kit.  Just a few seems to fix and the rest was very straight forward.  Colors are Mr. Color GX Red, Mr. Color GX White, Mr. Color GX Black, Alclad Clear Smoke, Alclad Chrome, Alclad Hot Metal Violet, Alclad Clear Yellow and Testors Dull Cote.  Model and metal parts were purchased from Hqo Parts on Ebay.

Also if anyone is interested in purchasing my FINISHED 1/35 RX-78 Ver Ka or my FINISHED 1/35 GP03 let me know.  The GP03 was just recently finished by Matt Tomczeck and the RX-78 was finished about 4 years ago.  The GP03 is in great shape and the RX-78 does have some hangar rash but still looks great.  Let me know and we can talk prices.  The GP03 wont be cheap as the kit coat me $1200 plus what I paid Matt but you will get a huge discount over what I paid.  The RX-78 will be quite a bit cheaper just because the kit was only like $500 and then what I paid Matt.  You could even strip it and do it yourself if you wanted to. If you are looking for any other resins, let me know I might have them.  I will probably add more once I go through my collection.  I have tons of SMS kits.

Well I started to do blue and white.  I tried taking the fingers apart but once you do that they don't stay together so I opted for just blue.

Spent about 3 days on this guy.

Step #1: Clean and Test Fit




Step #2: 1st round of Primer ( I used Mr. Resin Primer)




Step #3: Sand out any imperfections and re-apply primer (this kit was almost perfect)



Step #4: Gloss Black



Step #4: Highlights with Plamocolor Pure White




Step #5: Mix up custom Color and apply 2 coats:



Step #6:  Add 20% white to the custom color, re-assemble the kit and spray from the top down to create more highlights and false shadows:


Step #7:  3 Wet coats of Mr. Super Clear (no pics)
Step #8:  Panel Lines with enamel flat black (no pics)
Step #9:   Mix custom secondary color with enamel paints and lightly spray on all the organic bits just enough to cover but not kill the panel lines.  Then wipe away the exess for a reverse wash. (Sorry no pics)

Step #10:  Fix the broken head because I am an idiot and knocked the kit over:
Some Tamyia light curing putty, sanding and sculpting, primer then paint and good as new.





Step #11: Final flat coat  and Final Pics( I use Testors Dullcote)

Model In-Progress / Re: 1/48 GSB/G-System Hyper Z Duel Build

Well I got a lot done today.  I was able to get the main frame pieces of the leg pinned and epoxied.  I decided to go ahead and get these all epoxied now since they will be the sam color and it will avoid epoxy oozing all over my nice paint job.  I used 1/4 thread rod going through the intire leg.  Man is it sold.  The threads just give the epxoy something more to grip on and with it going all the way from the top of the foot to just under the hip joint, these legs will be extremely solid.  I did the intial sanding and cleaning as well, this is where the quality is not as good as the original.  It will take a lot of sanding and primer to get everythiing smooth.  It took about 6 hours to get the other foot pinned as well as the legs.  I even dry fitted the crotch just to see how big this is going to be.

The 3 main parts. These will bare all the weigh of the kit so I used the 1/4" threaded rod at the top. Below that is 3/32 steel rod and then 1/4" steel rod.


I kind of combineded the 2 leg steps so I good epoxy things.


Both feet all pinned.


Started with a 1/16" hole.


Next was a 3/32" hole.


Finally a 1/4" hole.


The threaded rod goes though the entire leg. This was not the easiest hole to drill. I had to take great care to make sure all the parts were lined up correctly before drilling.


2 pieces dry fitted.


Parts for the hip joint. Vey easy, just 3 screws and it's very sturdy.










Pepsi can for size comparison.


Everything epoxied and clamped for the next 24 hours.

OK I got started on the 1st of the 2 Hyper Z's.  So far I have the right foot, shilled and gun sanded and pinned.  These parts were pretty simple to get together.  The foot design is very interesting and will require some strong epoxy to keep together.  The shield was the easiest with only 5 parts.  So far so good on the fit.  Next I will get the left foot pinned and may even get these parts primed and painted before doing the same for the other kit.
