Wings, wings, wings…. I mentioned in my “Fallen One<\/a>” custom figure description how I’ve got a small obsession with them. This figure puts the wings on the arms as they are on birds and bats to create a unique weapon system. Combined with the creepieness of a barn owl shaped head, he “Tytonidae Tengu” is the ultimate in designer personal security drones for tomorrows lavishly wealthy.<\/p>\n

“What is a Tengu?” you may be asking? From wikipedia<\/a>: “Tengu (\u00e5\u00a4\u00a9\u00e7\u2039\u2014?, “heavenly dog”) are a type of legendary creature found in Japanese folk religion and are also considered a type of Shinto god (kami) or y\u00c5\u008dkai (supernatural beings). Although they take their name from a dog-like Chinese demon (Tiangou), the tengu were originally thought to take the forms of birds of prey, and they are traditionally depicted with both human and avian characteristics.”<\/p>\n

When designing the Japanese-style outfit, I was sure to add certain elements associated with Tengu such as the white puff balls and the Geta sandals. I constructed and patterned Gi (top) and Hakama pants based on rough full-scale martial arts uniform patterns. The obi belt was made using bias tape and tied using online tutorials, while the obijime was made using bead cord and while initially tied correctly, I finished the knot with my own patterning. The wing sleeve covers were my own additional design.<\/p>\n

Wings were made from laser-cut styrene which I sharpened, painted and applied carbon fiber decals to. They were then riveted together using 1\/16″ copper eyelets. The sandals, head and chest piece were scratchbuilt.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
