I&#8217;m custom painting and decaling this<br \/>\nkit to be the RX-78-3 G3 Gundam. Should be fun. I&#8217;m going to do<br \/>\na hexagonal fractal pattern on parts of the kit. It looks nice on<br \/>\nthe lineart and should look nice on the finished kit provided that<br \/>\nI don&#8217;t overdo it.<\/p>\n<p>While colorizing the lineart for the G3, I figured<br \/>\nI&#8217;d color-me-up some of the other RX-78 series. Now I want to order<br \/>\n4 more of this kit and go to town painting all the RX-78 variations<br \/>\nI can muster up. After much pondering and a few hair-brained ideas<br \/>\non how to get it to work, I had an idea for making tons of hexes<br \/>\nat once!<\/p>\n<p>I made a template and printed it out. The actual template<br \/>\nis a full 8.5 x 11 sheet. Then I taped the template over the masking<br \/>\ntape. By making a few cuts along the lines in the graphic, I got<br \/>\nlots of tiny hexes all the same size and shape. I think I managed<br \/>\nto cut out about a hundred of hexes in half an hour.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile I&#8217;m still cutting and sanding parts.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"anInprogImage\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fichtenfoo.com\/images\/prog-g3ka\/hexCuts.gif\" border=\"1\" alt=\"\" width=\"222\" height=\"69\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"subhead\">5.9.2003 \u00c2\u00bb a hex on you!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m in a good mood. Despite being really ill this<br \/>\nweek and having lamaze classes to boot 3 nights this week, I actually<br \/>\ngot to work on my G3 this evening. Played some Shinobi too! Anywho,<br \/>\nI started the hexes and they&#8217;re looking very nice so far. I figured<br \/>\nthat I&#8217;d test out the dark hexes first, then if all went well, move<br \/>\nonto the multitude of lighter hexes.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s some images of the progress. The first is of<br \/>\nthe tape cut-out into hexes. In the<br \/>\npast few days I have painted the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"Body\">White Hi-lite parts<\/li>\n<li class=\"Body\">Orange Parts<\/li>\n<li class=\"Body\">Internal Parts<\/li>\n<li class=\"Body\">Dark Gray Parts<\/li>\n<li class=\"Body\">Medium gray parts<\/li>\n<li class=\"Body\">Hexes on Dark Gray and Med Parts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Whew! Here&#8217;s a pic of the shield. I&#8217;ll be decaling my Dom and my G3 simultaneously.<br \/>\nJust because they are both at that stage and I&#8217;ll save time by spraying<br \/>\nboth kits at once.
