06.21.05 \u00c2\u00bb Story<\/p>\n

It is said that more contestants are killed in this arena by
\nthe extreme environment than enemy fire. Set deep in the bowels
\nof an abandoned toxic waste processing facility, this arena
\nis one of the deadliest in the “tournament”. Teams
\nmust navigate their way over rivers of toxic sludge via narrow
\ncatwalks and jump pads to reach the opposing teams base. Once
\nthere, pitfalls and narrow corridors make reaching the enemy
\nflag a treacherous experience.<\/p>\n

06.21.05 \u00c2\u00bb Concepts
\nand Variations<\/p>\n

Although I haven’t played in some
\ntime, I love playing first person shooters, especially
\nmy favorite: Unreal Tournament. This kit is my
\n“homage to capture the flag”. The Heinrich
\nsuit lends itself well to this idea since it sports
\na nice open glazed canopy and has a similar appearance
\nto some of the gene enhanced humans in UT 2003.<\/p>\n

The Heinrich (H1) will be carrying
\nits panzer faust in one hand and a red flag in
\nthe other. I’m making a rickety metal grate bridge
\nthat will be positioned over some glowing green
\ntoxic goo. My plan is to have the H1 running with
\none foot on the bridge. To make him “stick”
\nto the bridge, I’ll be using 2 rare earth magnets.
\nOne under the bridge panel and another in the
\nfoot of the H1.<\/p>\n

The color scheme for this one is
\nsimple. I’m using a two-tone gray fractal camo
\nhighlighted with blue stripes to signify that
\nthis H1 is on the blue team. I may tint the upper
\nhalf of the canopy with clear blue (ala car windshield)
\nas well.<\/p>\n

06.21.05 \u00c2\u00bb Initial
\nProgress<\/p>\n

I’ve actually been working on this
\nkit for a few weeks now off and on while waiting
\nfor supplies for my Hovertank and working on some
\nfreelance. It’s pretty far along now as all the
\nparts have been cut, sanded, and the many seams,
\ngaps, and poor fitting parts have been puttied
\nfilled and leveled.<\/p>\n

This kit definitely has more part
\nfit issues than the other MaK kits I’ve done.
\nThe body needed a good bit of putty since the
\nparts didn’t line up correctly. The lower legs
\nhad the same problem. Noting major that putty
\ncouldn’t fix, but extra work none the less.<\/p>\n

Next I need to make the joint covers
\nfrom Magic Sculpt and texture the kit with Mr.
\nSurfacer. The bridge is made from screen and angled
\nstyrene.<\/p>\n

07.07.05 \u00c2\u00bb Oops…
\nforgot to take progress shots!<\/p>\n

Yeah… I got a bit carried away
\nand forgot to take progress shots. Here’s where
\nI’m at so far though:<\/p>\n

The kit is almost done. I just weathered
\nit today and am ready to build it. After the build
\nI’ll be adding a bit of slime, dust and dirt to
\nit then it’s done. I’m weathering it so that it
\nlooks like it’s being corroded by a harsh chemical
\nwaste environment. Because of this the paint is
\nreally peeling and chipping and the suit is prematurely
\nrusting. For the story, I’d say this suit was
\nnew a week earlier. That’s a harsh arena. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

The base needs to have the gell
\nmedium dry for the toxic waste. I still need to
\npaint and weather a few pipes, build the bridge
\nand finish painting\/weathering it, and light up
\nthe goo.<\/p>\n

The flag needs the same weathering
\nas the kit except the flag will have burn marks
\nfrom being used in many matches. The flag was
\nmade from heated sheet styrene and the pole was
\nmade from various leftover bits and styrene rod.<\/p>\n
