Personally, I would think that people of an island nation would wear colors that contrast with the water. If you fall in the ocean and you're wearing something blue/green, chances are you won't be seen.  Big Grin

I love the vest on that bust (I know how it sounds), but i think it'd be a pain to reproduce in the smaller scales.

I love the vest too and thought similar thoughts to Vorglen uniforms. I just looks sinister. Don't worry about reporduction for figures. It's possible! :) I'm going to call a friend of mine that is a comic artist and see if he wants to get involved in maybe doing a short story and some character designs. Cool

Hi,

Anyone familiar with the ´Legend of Mother Sarah` manga? I have the first book and there are some nice references for Junkers characters, setlements and machinery.

Google wasn't much help, but it looks like it was published by Dark Horse:
http://www.darkhorse.com/profile/profile.php?sku=45-289
clear back in 1996. It was written by Katsuhiro Otomo ("Akira"), and received varying reviews on Amazon.com (and they show that they have four copies in stock). Unfortunately, my quick search didn't turn up scans of anything but the cover.

How cool! I was suggesting to Zero he do a caravan type vehicle like that. The buildings are what I picture junker towns looking like too. Great post!

I am thinking about doing a small side story about a settlement of Junkers. They aren’t pirates or criminals just people trying to make a life out away from everyone else. Near this town is one of the vents that expel air and on top of this vent an earth ship crashed when the wormhole collapsed. Through a series of events not yet determined (hiding from pirates or shelter from a storm) the leader of this village and a young boy discover a secret about the vents. What the secret is I don’t know yet and if it will affect the world in a great way is up for discussion. The vents have really jumped out at me lately and I want to explore them more. Like I said this is just a side story and whatever they find would not become public knowledge to the rest of the planet. I was just wondering what the rest of you thought.

Please don't do any secrets about the vents and such. That's what I REALLY want to avoid here is a bunch of alien race secret stuff. You said you read the forum so that should be apparent. I really want to keep the focus away from that and on the people and things living there in the now. Thanks!

I think that it should be explaned how or if the inhabitants of Trocken have countered the negative effects of lower gravity.  Do they try to maintain the muscle & bone health they had on earth?  I was thinking that maybe they made use of weighted clothing.  Or maybe even some kind of "resistance suit" designed to push against your every movement.  Perhaps they had to wear these suits until they reached teenage years.  They couldn't be too bulky and still be practical so maybe some sort of force reactive mesh.  Any thoughts?

That's funny, cuz I was contemplating the gravity thing earlier today. My thought was this:

They rigged a few of the Anti-grav generators to produce a sort of artificial "gravity field." These rigged generators would have a limited range and there would only be a few of them. The larger cities in KoH and VE would have such devices and so the people of those cities would not have experienced the physiological effects of low-G. However, the outlying cities and territories would not have such devices. Perhaps the Junkers and maybe the Ra Guild would have some of those effects (i.e. longer limbs, less dense muscle mass, larger chest cavities).

Just my thoughts on the subject.  Any comments/criticism or outright being dismissed by the "boss" (FF) are all welcome.

Anti-grav generators is too high tech. BK and I were discussing this at some point via PM before Min G started I believe. Basically at first people were pretty strong, able to leap farther, etc... over time and generations, they became used to the lower gravity and didn't feel so superhuman. They would grow a little taller than the average Earth-human due to low G. In Red Mars, Green Mars, Blue Mars, the martian humans and first colonists maintained an exercise regimine to counter the effects. I think most kids would rebel against a movement restricting suit or weighted clothing. Larger chest cavities would be the result of a thinner atmosphere which Trocken does not have so no need for that.

See AG generators would take a lot of power and that concept seems too high tech. Now on the other hand, another option to maintain 1G strength would be big centerfuges on rails. But even that seems a big unweildy and for little benefit now that they're "stranded" so to speak. In the days when travel between Earth and Trocken was available I imagine that'd be a great way to keep up 1G strength during a prolonged stay.

My thought was that even though its a large device requiring a lot of power, putting one in a city would make sense. Maybe there's a generator that runs on hydroelectric power just for that device. Maybe that's why its range is so limited. As I said, the device would be rigged to work in this way. I don't think reducing its power requirements would be too much of a stretch if they're completely changing how the device works. A Junker engineering genius and a massive public works project or two should be enough to make this happen.

Ohhh, wait. Maybe they recovered an entire power core, as well as the AG device, from a downed Earth Union ship. They were moved to the city, where the device was re-engineered to work in this manner. Maybe VE's breaks down and is the cause of another battle with KoH?

My whole reasoning is that it would be cool for there to be some subtle differences between the people from the four nations. This gives you different "races" on your planet as well, as people adapt to the enviroment while others refuse to. I think it would add to the realism of the entire scenario.

It's just ideas, man. Thanks to you, this kind of stuff runs through my head all day now. I can't function in a normal manner because Minimal G has taken over my brain. Tongue
I love this kind of stuff and am really excited. Stuff really pops in my head all day long. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I expect a lot of stuff that I come up with to get dismissed, but I still wanna voice those ideas because maybe a couple of them will resonate with you(FF) or others that are holding the reigns of this project. No offense taken as far as ideas that don't fall in line. They're just ideas. Big Grin

I thought the intention was to steer away from these "races" in this GB.  Think of it, every "sci-fi universe" has distinct races.

But in reality, we are in fact merging more than diverging.  So in a thousand years from now hopefully this whole race business will be so blurred that ppl cease to care.

fred: I hear ya... I am constantly thinking up things for this and developing ideas for kits in my head. Part of why I've been building things so quickly is that by the time I actually build them they've been built in my head 20+ times already. LOL

I'm not purposely slamming folks ideas... I just have a vision for this world and am trying to focus everything/everyone within that to make a unique place. I'd rather not do the 1G generators... It does lead to races which I'd like to avoid since there will already be conflict of ideals and social status. Plus it makes things more interesting if everyone is on the same level playing field body-wise. No superhumans, new-types, coordinators, jedi, etc..., just normal people. Still though, keep the ideas coming!

Like I mentioned in the finished Mosquito thread, I have a "main" story I'm working on involving 2 characters. Through their eyes well see Trocken life and the events unfold. Should be cool. There's plenty of room for side stories as well.

Pick up a few cheap 1/48 scale aircraft and a couple 1/35 vehicles with nice detail bits. Tanks with internal details are great as are armored cars as they have all sorts of gizmos for the drive train and undercarriage. Try www.squadron.com
