Resin Kits on Ebay
« on: December 23, 2013, 05:10:15 AM »
Hey guys!

Kind of new to Ma.k so being a bit cautious here. I see some neat resin kits on ebay that look like they would be fun to build. What do I need to know about these? Are they usually okay? How's the quality? What do I need to watch out for? Should I be passing them by due to any copyright or ethical issues with the original companies? Here is one I saw this morning.

Thanks for any insight and advice! :)

Hi Daf,

I have seen some of these "copy" kits before. Over all their quality is not bad, they just have large amounts of additional mold-lines. This is because the recast may not follow the original mold lines.

But like you said these are "rip-offs" so while I don't think you will get in trouble for buying them, in reality you are hurting somebody. A lot of work goes into getting a model from concept to production, and is very frustrating when somebody takes advantage of all that hard work. I personally wouldn't get one of those just due to ethics.

I hope this helps.
