I agree with Tet about the shape and holes inside.  I bell shape would be awesome and 6-8 holes drilled inside would be better than the 4 half pipes that you have designed inside.  I also know that we can't get too complex with this as it's small, and difficult as is.  I believe the hoses etc.. could be added later via the modeler as he/she prefers.  Perhaps if a big enough lot (say 50-100) is ordered then sets of 8 or more can be obtained for a reasonable price.

Here's the deal the more intricate you get the more they will be and almost worth not getting made. I also agree that they should be stepped down instead of just lines cut in to it. But we are still just in prototype mode and all your feedback will help get a better and more real looking product. So please everyone post your ideas . Two heads are better then one, so to speek.

As for the baffles it is really going to be personal chioce what you like.I like both and my friend did say that the 1st one in your picture Fulcy would be easier to make. The one with the circle of holes. So that might be willing to think about in going into the cost of this.

As for the file I would need this in .... .dxf or .iges he also said if it was made on solid works program that would be good too.

I also think we should make actual measurements to go with the diagrams this way they can program them in.

And do we want it in 3 seperate pieces or all as one piece?

Fulcy if you want to contact me via email and we can discuss this better and in more detail,we can always  just post our progress on the forum.Feel free to contact me at

Fulcy asked me to post up these images for you guys to look at.

http://www.mechaskunk.com/images/fled/gthruster02.jpg
http://www.mechaskunk.com/images/fled/gthruster03.jpg

These are the final design so now he's getting quotes. He bounced ideas off me and took into account some of the feedback you guys left after the first images.

What you're looking at is 2 "products". The first product is the bell, baffle, and center rod. The bell is approx. 8mm at the open end so that you can get a feel for size and is based on the size of the Ver. Ka MG/GM Kai bells.

The second product is the rear section behind the bell consisting of 2 "donuts" a brass ball with a hole through it, and a steel connecting pin. Since not everyone would want that he's selling it as an option set. The holes are for tubes, springs  or wires for detail. We were inspired by this piece: http://www.h4.dion.ne.jp/~jeep/0SRD.htm

If these sell well then he'll probably do other sizes of bells. He'll probably let you know a general price next week some time when he's gotten some quotes back.

Looks sharp. Can't wait to see the pricing. Nice CAD work, too. Things sure have improved in the decade since I was in college.

I suspect I'm in the minority in feeling that the detail behind the bell is important, but I think it's a cool idea to make a second parts set for that detail.

As for the thruster bell itself - is that insert thing removable?  I like the insert but I feel like it's too close to the end of the engine, myself.  Other than that it (insert included) looks great.

Woah! Just saw this thread! Awesome work, guys! I'm in for a couple of sets. Preferably the 10-15 buck range, but whatever the price is I'm in.

Yeah, that will be removeable. The bell will be 3 parts. The "pin", the bell, and the baffle. I think the inside of the bell will be plain without it, but you could add some option parts in there to spruce them up.

I like the rear option details too and am planning to use them in my next project. I think once folks see them in use and how great they'll look then they'll want them.

I agree that the details behind the bell are important - but I can also see that alot of people will just want the bells, and not the details - and if I sold it all as one kit, I'd be wasting all those detail bits because those people wouldn't be using them, and those people would be charged for pieces that they aren't going to use.  It's easy enough to offer them as a second parts set for detailing, so that both sets of people (those who want the details, and those who don't) get what they want.

As Mike said - the bell is three parts (I should really do an exploded view) - the middle rod (called a Tip), the Baffles, and the Bell.  I compromised on the position of the Baffles inside the Bell - the good thing is, the Baffle is offset by about .030" from the inside end of the Bell.  So, you could grab a razor saw, and remove that little bit of material from the inside, to allow it to sit a little deeper into the bell - the outside diameter may need to be sanded down a little to let it to sit properly, but it shouldn't be difficult to do...

I'm slowly getting the quotes in - I've set early next week as the cut off date - and so far I'm encouraged by the prices on the Baffles and the Tip - but the pricing on the Bell and the Donut will have to come down if I am to go through with this project (they are both over $3 per piece right now, and that's in quantities of 500, which as much as I want this project to succeed, I am not fronting that kind of cash).  Will keep you all updated - and thanks for your support guys!

I've been away for awhile so i missed this one.  I would certainly like to have a few sets of these, though I'm not really sure what a good price for them would be.
