Zeta Evolve first resin kit
I've finally started on my first ever foray into resin with a conversion kit for Zeta 2.0 It's the Grey Zeta evolve that I got a while ago from Matt. I've been going over the full kit and looking at what needs to be revised/fixed.
I'm not sure if all resin kits are like this but the detail is amazing. Very little cleanup work is needed and for the most part everything fits. There are some gaps in the leg amours but I think I can adjust it using the boiling water trick… Can I fill resin gaps with regular putty like Squadron stuff and clean up with nail polish remover or will it do bad things to the resin?
On a side note I did get a new airbrush for myself just because my 10 year old Eclipse CS has been acting weird lately… Can’t wait to try out the new HP-C+

Nice dude! Love the zeta and the conversion looks even cooler. Good luck on the project!
You also have a great AB there. I use the B+ and a couple others but that one in particular I like. I think if you keep it clean, you will enjoy it.

Re: Zeta Evolve first resin kit
Squadron putty and nail varnish remover is perfectly fine to use on resin kits. Resin is pretty resilient to chemicals, which is why I like resin kits so much. They can withstand very strong lacquer thinners which makes resin kits great to practice with because of how easily you can strip the paint off.

Re: Zeta Evolve first resin kit
Thanks Kylew!
I've actually been going very slow on the kit. Lots of sanding and testfitting just to make sure everything fits right. Some parts are now in a purple power bath before my first primer coat.
I've been looking at the gun and shield for the Gray Zeta and I may not use them at all. Anybody want some resin parts?

Re: Zeta Evolve first resin kit
Well I finally have some updates for this build…
Most of the sanding priming is done and I’ve begun pre-shading the parts. I’m trying a new technique here called color modulation (or something like that) basically it’s forcing shadows and highlights in the paint. It’s not the same as the MAX technique as that is just shading on all edges. It’s simulating a light source from the top or 45 degrees from the models surface. Hopefully I can also mix it with regular panel shading and get something nice…
Anyway, I’ve got some better pics but of course I left them at home and not on my portable drive.

Plastic, and probably more of a lesson in what
not
to do, but you can never have too much reference right ?
Looking great man. Going to be cool.

Thanks Grail. Can't see the pictures here at work but I'll be sure to check them out at home.
More pic updates. Going green on this one for some parts. Sort of a Palace Athene look...

Re: Zeta Evolve first resin kit
Finally some progress on this Zeta…
Completed most of the painting and gloss coating of all the pieces a while back. The past few days I’ve gotten to the best part (for me) which is putting on the decals. Most of the major markings are on now. I just have to put on the hundreds of little warning markings a-la. Ka style. Then, clear gloss again before the panel line wash and flat coat. Not far now !
For some reason the shading on the white has almost disappeared but it appears on the green and grey peices. Maybe when I put on the final flat coat it will come back out.
BTW. It's still a Grey Zeta conversion but I made it a Unit 03 Zeta Plus that is part of the EFSF...
