Meet Tesla.

She's in her dungeon, getting ready to go out on a date with her beau.  As you can see, she's plugged into the wall socket getting her charge on!

Based on original art from my buddy, UK artist Aly Fell, the name of the piece is Charge!  I licensed the art from Aly and hired master sculptor Troy McDevitt to do the three dimensional rendering in 1/6 scale.  Only ten copies were cast - this is casting number 1.

I scratch built the walls, dungeon floor, shelving, all of the panels, gauges, and the mirror.  The kit is wired with LED lighting.  I cast light bulbs around the mirror from semi translucent resin, mounted them in sections of aluminum tubing, and lit them from behind.  I also cast the wall socket in clear resin, painted around the perimeter, and lit it with a flashing blue LED.  The flashers and colored lights are powered with twin 9v batteries.

Charge! premiered at Wonderfest this year.  The first shot is from the AFM Writer's Table, where you can see the lighting pretty well.  The soft boxes in the photo rig in my studio washed out the lighting around the mirror, so it does not show as well in the rest of the shots, but, well, you get the idea.

Wow! Fantastic work Smiley. Love all the level of details from the little jars to the great lighting, I especially like the lights on the mirror. The 'rigor mortis' hairspray made me chuckle!

Awesome - I just wish there was some way you could have lit up the ends of the wires that are connected to the bolts in her neck, as in the original artwork...

This turned out fantastic Film.  I love all those little sciencey pieces.  For the lights to show up you could have turned off the modeling lights on the strobes and then dragged the shutter for a second or so.  That would have made them show up.

Holy hell, this was awesome. Might I ask why you chose to go with a normal fleshtone instead of the standard ghost pale/dead flesh tone one would expect? Just wondering.

Thank you.

There are a couple of answers to your question, actually.  I mainly stayed with Aly's original art for her skin tone.  I licensed the art from Mr. Fell, and we talked about how much I loved his original concept.

Secondly, I wanted a brighter, more colorful palate for the proof piece.  I might still do another using all gray scale tones.  That might be kinda interesting!

And third, I'll refer back to your question - why do something that everyone "would expect"?   Tongue Tongue Tongue
