Painting with Mr. Super Metallics

Hi guys,

I'm about to use Mr. Super Metallics for the first time and I just want to see if I need to thin it any different from Tamiya Metallics.

Usually with Tamiya, I use 1 part 91%RA to 2 parts paint.   Will this work for Mr. S.M. as well?

I would like to know this as well - straight out of the bottle or slightly thinned when hand brushing?

Oh god... don't use alcohol! Use the Mr. Color thinners if possible. I usually do 1/3-1/2 thinner at least.

Can I ask for you to elaborate a bit though?  Don't use Alcohol on Mr. Super Metallic or don't use it period?  I've never had trouble with Tamiya paint, but I'm assuming there's a chemical difference between them.

I'll look into the Mr. Thinners and see what's available.

Yeah... one is an acrylic that's thinnable with alcohol and one is a lacquer/enamel? that will not react well with alcohol.

Oh, okay, I didn't realize MSM was an enamel.

Okay, after much deliberation (and a little testing) I'm going to go ahead and say "Meh, no thanks" to Super Metallic.  I'll stick to Tamiya's  They may not be as good, but I feel a lot more comfortable using a paint I can easily fix. 

This may or may not have to do with me not wanting to pay 11.43 in shipping from Hobby Wave for one little jar of Mr. Thinner, but we'll leave that alone for now.

Mr. Color is lacquer based. So alcohol is a big no-no. Only use Mr. Color thinner for it.

I only thin certain metallics. The Super Chrome comes pre-thinned and is ready to spray out of the bottle, where as Super Iron is way too thick and needs to be thinned.

Do you know if Super Titanium is pre-thinned?  It seemed pretty thick when I checked it out with a brush, but that doesn't mean much.

I usually thin the Super Titanium. Usually I think 2 parts paint to 1 part thinner, so not a ton of thinning.

I'll have to go to my local Hobby Town anyway, so I'll see if they have Mr. Thinner.

Just a note. I use Tamiya paints mostly through my airbrush and I usually thin them with tamiya lacquer thinner.
If I get the mixture right,they go on smooth like velvet. I found,the only alcohol I could get good enough for painting was 99% and I had to special order it from Ralphs
(not available in Canada)and they looked at me like I had a meth lab or something.

I use 91% with Tamiya and get wonderful results, however, I usually do a 2 to 1 ratio of paint to 91.   I know my Hobby Town carries Tamiya thinners (but nothing with the Mr. Hobby line), so I might look into that.  I guess the only thing is, 91 carries the benefit of being cheap as dirt, where as the Tamiya stuff isn't.

Every once in a while, I might mess up and have too much 91 in there, and then I get the powders, but I just finished using Gun Metal and it worked awesome again.

I have a question about what to use to clean the airbrush
I am mainly using Mr.Color, and I use Mr.Thinner to thin the paint.
My question would be, what can I use to clean my airbrush inbetween colors and overall cleaning.
I heard that industrial lacquer thinner will damage the plastic?
It would be great if some one give me some suggestion, because using Mr.thinner as a cleaning
solution is very expansive.
