Well about 18 months ago to the day I presented my very 1st completed gundam, the MG Sinanju.  So I figured why do another one to mark 18 months of active Gunplaing, if that's a word. So I have come full circle from where I started 18 months ago and I present you with my MG Sinanju "2nd Attempt".  What has changed over 18 months?  Well a lot actually.  I have completed 14 models with each on getting progresivly better.  I completed my 1st commission the MG Exia http://gallery.me.com/mattmrozek#100193. I completed my 1st resin kit the SMS 1/100 Kyshatria http://gallery.me.com/mattmrozek#100136. I completed my 1st floating kit the 1/35 Markov http://gallery.me.com/mattmrozek#100314 and I completed my 1st PG kit the 00 Raiser http://gallery.me.com/mattmrozek#100390.  I completed my 1st 48 hour build the MG Alie Strike http://gallery.me.com/mattmrozek#100344 and I have won over 10 awards through various competitions as well as being published in 3 Japanese magazines.  Its been a pretty busy year and a half.

On this kit I did a complete 180 from my 1st one.  1st the color scheme.  Inspired by this build, "Trinity" http://toymakerinc.blogspot.com/2010/12/trinity-beasts-group-build.html I wanted to do a heavily shaded Blue Sinanju.  I also wanted to add the Neograde conversion kit which this one is from SMS.  It'd kind of hard to tell because the parts are only slightly different from the OOB ones and of course the huge bazookas which I am saving for another kit.

I did have a few issues.  Because I primed this thing I had a hell of a time doing final assemble and posing.  The joints are stiff already and are almost impossible to move now.  I ended up breaking the one that joins the torso to the waist so I had to use some brass tube.  This thing is staying where he is so now super cool action poses.  Sad

The hardest part of this whole kit is the dam shield.  I tried 4 different ways of painting all which got stripped to do what you see.  I painted the foil stickers for the trim and applied those.  The emblem is mask with parafilm and then brush touched up and mine is far from perfect.  I would say that it looks pretty bad actually.

The thrusters are from my favorite metal parts store on Ebay. hqoparts http://stores.ebay.com/gundamhqoparts.  They are even using my kits to sell their products which is pretty cool.  The ones one this kit came as a set and they are very nice and some are even electroplated.

All the colors are Mr. Color and are as follows:
Blue Preshade: Midnight Blue
Blue Top Color: GX Susie Blue
Frame and metallics: Super Titanium
Black: Uhhhh!!!! GX Black  Razz
Top Coat: Mr. Clear Flat  Very tough stuff.  Does not scuff nearly as easy as my usual Testors Dullcote or flattened Future.

There are a few pieces that are a slightly different shade of blue,  I wanted a very subtle 2 tone so on a few pieces after I did my shading I went over them with Intermediate blue and then another light coat of GX Susie Blue.  These pieces are a tab on the grey side and help break things up a little.

Enough talk and on with the pics. Gallery here. http://gallery.me.com/mattmrozek#100416

I just love this kit and I will probably be doing another one in the future.  I think the best MG kit out there right now.

For the rest visit the gallery: http://gallery.me.com/mattmrozek#100416

Thanks for looking.  A special thanks to all the very cool people that I have met around the world.  With out my Gunpla buddies I wouldn't have clue to what I was doing.  It's because of all of your generosity that I have gained the skills to get me this far and I still have a long way to go.

Thanks again,
Matt

This is really stunning man!
Really loving the blue/white/chrome action. Very cool.  Cool The red highlights are a really nice touch to break it up as well.
Sweet crazy wash light too.
Really nice job.

Looks good Matt. What primer did you use? I've never had that much of a problem with assembling finished bandai kits after using primer.

You might want to switch over to use Mr. Surfacer sprayed from your airbrush if you are having problems.

I found that it works better on the plastic kits and is thinner then my typical spray can primer I use for resin.

@Grail
Thanks Man!

@Matt
All I use on MG is Mr. Surfacer 1000.  As you know this kit has tight joints already but after primer, paint, and top coat it was a bitch to assemble.  I had to use pliers to put the let joints in the correct position before snapping into the crotch.

Crazy!

Well regardless of the joint issues, this turned out great. I really like the blue you used on this.

Thanks, I have been using their GX line of paints.  They are a ton better then the other ones.  I just wish they offered more colors.

Ah yea, those are the higher pigment versions of the regular Mr.Color.  They are super nice, but I gave up because of the color range.

Rarely do I ever use those colors straight out of the bottle so I couldn't justify em.

Dude, this really is some great work.  Plus the Red and Blue together strike a throwback image to the days of Contra on NES, which is awesome in its own right.

You detailing is simply perfect.

Nice job, keep up the great work!

If it's just alright, why did it prompt you to buy my MG Sinanju?   Razz
