G-System 1/35 RX78 Gp03s - commission
«

October 11, 2009, 10:14:40 PM »
Now that I have finished up the RX78 Ver Ka., its time to start work on the next 1/35 project the Gp03S. The kit arrived a few weeks ago from the magical land of Texas (with its gigantic cousin the EX-S), and has been sitting in my studio taunting from its box. This weekend I unpacked and sorted through all of the parts and began initial assembly. The big stand out for this kit is the fact that it has a full internal skeleton that the armor goes over unlike the RX78 ver Ka that is all solid resin. Clean up so far has been pretty painless, stand flash and gates here and there. A few spots had some resin sludge that needed cleaning out, but overall its been great so far. A few pictures of the unpacking and sorting, as well as the start of assembly on the left leg.

Wow!!! Another one...
Actually, I am not so surprised,
I am looking forward to seeing you put this one together. I did another test assemble of the torso and abdomen for the Hazel, and all of the plastic weighs quite a bit!!!
I can only imagine how much this sucker is going to weigh when you are done. Best of luck to you!!!

So now that the Sazabi is out of the way I can finally start focusing my full attention on the other remaining projects. I spent today working on the Gp03 and getting the legs and waist sections assembled and cleaned up. I noticed that there was a bit more resin slop on the this build then there was on the RX-78. Nothing major, just little goops and drips here and there that will need cleaning. Getting the legs standing and connected to the waist it made me realize how massive this thing is going to be.

I completely forgot about this model, I thought you did too. The photos above has inspired me to try and build a 1/35 internal frame for my next project.
I look forward to seeing more!

Yea Chris, I agree with Matt your crazy! :)
I didn't forget about this, it's been staring at my ever so lovingly from the corner of my workbench. It's coming along pretty good so far, right now just making sure that I pin the legs with 1/8" solid brass rods to make sure that the joints can accommodate all the weight of the rest of the kit.

We will see...

Yea the legs are already taller then the entire Sazabi. :) Spent most of last night working on cleaning up the leg parts and armor. I ran out of 1/8" brass rod so I had to stop assembly for the night. Picked up some more on the way home from work today, so I'll be back at it this evening. Should have some new pictures shortly.
Matt (MVM) - I am thinking I want to do the internals entirely in Super Metallics, with maybe some accents of other colors. What do you think?

Progress!
Tonight was spent fitting all of the leg armor and working on the last bit of pinning on the leg internals. I was able to get all of the leg armor assembled and basic clean up accomplished. Now that all of the lower parts have been pinned and test fit, next steps are going to be clean up and surface prep. Which means lots and lots of sanding. So much so that I am thinking of building a down draft box to hook up to my shop vac to suck up all the resin dust.
Oh, and I put a large bottle of Tamiya acrylic and a bottle of Mr.Color in the pictures for size reference. :)

Sure I bet that would look great. What are you thinking for the main color? I will pretty much leave it up to you. Besides if I don't like it you can always strip it and do again.

I am thinking of keeping the color scheme similar to the original but instead of blue using a purplish grey and instead of white using a very light lavender. With red accents.
I think it would look pretty badass in that scheme. But we'll see once it gets to painting it. :)

I'd love to build something like that. Alas my ceilings aren't high enough.
