Clear Purple?

Anyone know of a clear purple paint on the market?

These come in eye dropper type bottles, I believe.

Is it airbrushable? I should had been specific. It's for a candy-coat.

I have not personally done so, but others have (typically thinned with Windex).

have you tried mixing clear red and clear blue together? I know that mr. Color sells those two colors and I believe Tamiya has those in acryl form...

It's quite difficult to mix clear paints. I already try to do a purple violet  but

Good idea but when I tried it, the dark colour I ended up with was quite horrible and not a nice purple like I had envisaged.

Bringing this back up because I'll need it soon. Any other clear/transparent purples, airbrushable for candy coats available? Pink would be great too.

Even a great metallic purple would be nice.

I have a idea that is worth a try, when I built the 1/35 hazel, I wanted a semi transparent purple color on the Hazel's internal frame. I used some Windsor-Newton ink and mixed it with future, then applied it with a airbrush, I don't know how well it will work for you, but I got the effect I wanted. 

You can try any colored ink you want, I guess some experimentation is in order.

But the mixture will be very thin and watery though...

According to the site, the paint is suitable for many different mediums - including plastics.

I have a LOT of ink, so maybe I'll try that first. I wonder though, looking through the Dixie Art site if their "Auto Air" line may work. They've got a HUGE selection of colors as well.

UPDATE: I just tried mixing really really old (20 years old actually) Higgins Ink that I bought in High School with straight unthinned Future.

I mixed about 30:70 Ink to Future using a mixture of Violet and Red Violet to get the color I wanted. The mixture was thin, but actually about as thin as I'm used to since I thin my Future anyway with Tamiya Thinner.

Spraying it on though required about 15 coats using my method which is spray VERY thinly, air dry, repeat. Doing it in lesser, thicker coats would cause bad runs.

Anyway color and smoothness-wise it's a thing of beauty really. The color is excellent and exactly what I hoped for. However I recall trying this once before and while looking for something scrap to test on I found a pile of my old ink trials which had poor results. I think I sprayed too thick for those as they looked blotchy.

I ended up testing on a scrap of polished aluminum rod.

Now I recall my other issue was that it remained tacky for a loooong while. I'll reserve judgment on that till sometime later tomorrow and give it 15-24 hours.

I did end up ordering Createx Transparent Pink, Auto Air Transparent Purple and the Auto Air "reducer" (thinner) recommended for both of those paints. (a spare HP-BH needle too, just in case) I'll do some tests and post the results. Having a larger range of clears will be a very nice thing.

Eventually it dries out, the next time I will try using some 91% alcohol to speed up the drying time.

I'll do some tests and post the results. Having a larger range of clears will be a very nice thing.

Please do let us know. I'm interested in how the paint works through the air brush and how it adheres to the model. I might try some transparent paint for some of my Dinosaur kits - I've seen many painted using transparents on a white base coat.

My success last night may also have to do with my airbrush. I'm using an Iwata HP-BH now as opposed to the Badger Crescendo and it sprayed beautifully. I think I may have thinned it last time as well and would actually avoid that as the alcohol would make it even runnier. Try my ratio, spray very thin coats air-blasted inbetween with low pressure.

I did notice this morning that there is no tackiness at all. So as far as clear purple goes it's awesome. Too bad I don't have pink ink! (Zaku Eyes)

For a clear pink for Zaku monoeyes I used PearlEX Flamingo Pink mixed in Future. It turned out pretty well. I actually got the idea from your Astrea build.

You can use Citadel Washes instead of ink to make clears. They have a clear coat quality to them right oob. I think this can work well for a "candy coat" type application.They are a little better quality than ink and go on well. I have also sprayed them through my secondary brush(wanted to test first) without thinner with no problem.They have really cool vibrant colors too. I think mixed with future it COULD be pretty awesome, but I haven't tested that.

Here's a shot of the clear purple ink/Future mixture on a UC Hardgraph Zaku Head I'm doing while doing the MGX4 challenge. The candy purple parts are with the internals and won't be seen unless the piece is displayed armor-off.

The red is Tamiya Clear Red 45%, Tamiya Thinner 45%, Future 10% approximately.

The commanders antenna is a scratch-built add-on.
