This robot popped up in some design blogs like notcot.org and others:
http://moderhythm.blog26.fc2.com/

I couldn't find the chubu here in the forums, so I thought I'd share :)

google this info:
Quote
Consider a world full of robots, where they are the primary mode of transportation too? The Chubu 01 is a product of that world, as the transport robot would have been in 1957. The robot from an alternate 1957 sounds cool, looks good, but considering where the driver’s seat is, it may not be a very, er, “politically correct” thing for a drive. Or maybe it’s “taking a ride” in an alternative sense as well.

This Japanese DIY kit is up for sale at “Harajuku’s TOKYO CULTUART” gallery for 28,000 Yen, with only 200 units set for production.

My Japanese isn't to good, but clicking around on the above site gets you some different models and build processes.

stunning model I think!

Remember this from Winterfestival, love it. The retro-look is definitely there, it screams "I'm a Vespa robot!", in my opinion.

Would love to get my hands on one - but I doubt the place that is selling them would sell overseas...

these things, I didn't know what they were called but saw them and number of related items at Summer WF here in Tokyo last year. I've been pinged a couple of times, "Seen these around?" but haven't seen them since.

Was actually thinking of buying one and was talking with the enthusiastic young fellow running the stand until the creator walked up. He immediately insulted me and pushed me out of the way to begin packing up his stall, in a huff. Lots of stuff unsold. Boy was he in for a surprise, I let fly and gave him a piece of my mind. Unfortunately, that's not much but man was he rude and and all around dick and obviously, a xenophobe or just plain ol' gaijin hater.

Sorry to bring that up but that's all I see now when I spot this universe. A puffy, red-faced, dyed hair, way ghey looking middle aged Japanese bigot.

Hey, want to know how I really feel about it!?!  LOL

Then you meet Kow Yokoyama and he looks you in the eye, offers his hand and greets you in polite English. He doesn't speak English but there you go.

Go figure. Biased? Hell yeah!

Was going to talk to you about possibly ordering one through their website, Link, but after that story, no thanks!

very sorry to bring that kind of story here but... well I can't let it go either. One of my worst experiences in Japan ever, easily the worst of WF 2008. My brother was there too and had interest but we both dropped it on the spot after that...

Otherwise more than happy to be on the look out here for you Fulcy  Smiley.

That's really too bad. I was interested as well... you know it's funny. The guy is xenophobic, but his design's based on American cars of the 50's. So weird. It's like having the 'klans anthem be the theme from Shaft. Sarcasm

I sure hope rusty fish sub guy is nice. Like his designs too. LOL

And here I thought good ol' boys in bedsheets had cornered the market on racism...

That really just sucks. Sorry to hear about your sour experience, Link. It's times like those where I try to remember what my ex-girlfriend used to tell me over a bottle of spiced rum: "F--- you, I have enough f---ing friends."

She was a peach, wasn't she? I'm not sure how that helps, but it always makes me feel better when I say it.

Yuck LinK. I hate stuff like that - you are right it always overshadows the design, no matter how sweet it is.

It's funny that color scheme is the EXACT color and feel that I have designed for the bot I'm scratching now. Nothing quite says "retro" like the aqua color!!  LOL Maybe I'll switch now though . . .  meh

Foo: I laughed out loud with your title: "Rusty Fish Sub Guy"  LOL LOL and I'm STILL waiting until you have that topic as a contest/buildoff!! I have a lot of his images saved as reference. Sweet indeed. Cool

Heh... perhaps we should have a "water torture" Group Build? Whatever, as long as it relates to or is sitting/standing/walking in (or on) water?

Did anyone mention that the driver of the 50-bot rides on a seat that sticks out from it's CROTCH...I can see the anime with a whole class of schoolgirls wanting to "drive"
