Sorry about that.  Since I am new, I did not know, but it makes perfect sense that these kinds of build-offs should be approved . . . it's okay if one of the admin will move it.  Thanks.

No worries as I recall this from the Mig Forum. I merged the topics so if anyone is interested they can post/sign-up and get started.

This would be an interesting side project, and a cheap one at that... I'm in, it will give me something to do while putty dries. :3

-Edit- I did some brainstorming on what you could possibly do with a Ping-Pong ball, and did some thumbnails...
Though about a haro, thought about a version of the ball, then thought of this!

I love the scorpion and the grape.  Excellent thumbnails for inspiration!

Actually the whole concept behind the grape is that it's a single unit, that you attach different packs to on different hard points, but I definitely posted it for inspiration! I just need to go pick up a Ping-Pong ball, I'm going to do this even if the Build Off doesn't happen.

Nice drawings. You must be peeking into my windows because that buggy is what's mocked up on my desk. I better put some pants on.

ninja edit - OK I'm done.

Anyways, I'm in for this one. We've got 3 now?

Ha ha, no I'm kidding.
Actually I did a similar design for a project in my Rapid Vis class a few quarters ago, the buggy and helicopter where used for that project. Though never built.

Just a heads up, but ping pong balls are filled with some nasty smelling gas called celluloid, dunno how harmful it is, but it smells like vinegar and vodka.. X.x;
Also, they are about 40mm diameter, a lot smaller than I had remembered them being so this will be trickier than before. Lastly, is this build off official or am I jumping the gun? I have already starting working on mine but didn't want to upload pictures until I knew what was going on. If it wont happen then I will just post this in the WIP XDD

Not "official" until there's a thread or something? So anatole, me, and cranky makes three. Any more?

With this few people is this considered more of a dual?

This is now a BO. Please prefix your thread subjects with "PONG".

I thought about it, but I don't know much about Ma.K so I opted out.

I didn't make the rules, but I would assume as long as a pingpong ball is notably in your design, then you are good. So therefor, if you made something using more than one it would count. at least I don't see why it wouldn't.

Is this build challenge still going on? Because I built this thing out of two ping pong balls and a lot of spare parts this weekend:

I just started messing with a ping pong ball on Friday night, and by Sunday I had this. No idea what it is, what the scale is, or anything else. Just got anxious waiting for my 1/76 Neuspinne to get to me, so I built this for practice.

It stands on its own now, but the CA was still drying in that picture.

So anyways... Can I join?  :pirate:

Daaaaamn, I saw pictures of the Neuspinne these last days and thought how cool it'd be to do something like that. You beat me to it!
Looks REALLY cool!
Is it holding together? Are you done design-wise or planning on adding some things?

Thanks! The Neuspinne was definitely a strong inspiration for this thing. I originally wanted it to be a Ma.K. something-or-other, but not sure how well it really fits into that universe at this point.

It is holding together. I built the body up first, and then last night I built each leg separately--trying carefully to make sure things were roughly lined up for it to stand on its own. And it does. I was a little worried about the CA glue not being fully cured, so I left it propped up on the Tamiya bottle overnight, but it should be fine to stand on its own today.

And I'm not sure if it's done or not. I'd like to call it done, but it feels like it's missing something--and I don't know what. I'll probably put up a quick in-progress on today, but I don't know if I should put it here as a "PONG" entry or over in the regular in-progress section.
