ORX-005 Gaplant
« on: August 01, 2007, 01:18:22 PM »
Hello everyone,

I was planning to make this model for the AOZ group build.  I got overwhelmed by my new baby so was not able to make the group build.  Anyway, I got a little progress with the time I srape form here and there.

All comments are welcome as always.  Hopefully more progress will come soon.

My wife just went on vacation to my parents' house with the baby so I am finally alone in the house.  Been on gunpla binge for the last two days.  Here are some more progress.

One of the flying shield is finished.  They are now attaching to the shoulders now, which are also missile pods.

The details of the shields and the shoulder can be found in the blog.  There are a few more mods other than this.  I will write them up in more details later.

Indeed, this is very nice work. Thats a lot of work for 2 days as well. So are you keeping the original scheme or doing something different?

The shield looks really awesome. Love what you did on all the vents!

Thanks for the comments.

DrDazzle: I suppose you mean the color scheme.  I plan to go with a gray color scheme, simply turn the light green to light gray(maybe silver) and the dark green to dark gray.

There are still a long list of work need to be done.  I hope to get this one painted before wife and baby returns.

Hi,

The body and the left arm are done.  I thought I try some FSS elements on a Gundam kit.

Anyway, more details can be found in the blog.  Let me know if something doesn't agree with you.

The work on the chest is nicely done and looks great!
The recasted hands are also a nice addition, considering the crappy stock hands...

I agree!  The stock hands of the HGUC Gaplant are the pits!  I was hoping from the images we saw of the HGUC TR-5 of the promo model that it would have the Hazel's hands instead.  It was depressing seeing those hands back again!

I'm loving this custom work though!  The redesigning looks good!  You mentioned that you wanted to do this for the AoZ build and even though this looks like a full personal custom, theres a lot of new things out there for the Gaplant.  I don't know if you were planning on changing the face of the Gaplant, but I really think Eliard Hunter's Gaplant head would go well with what you're doing.  It has more of a Gundam-ish feel to it (its modeled after the Mk V's head).  It might help that Five Star Stories feel you're going for!

If you need more lineart or ideas, we've got tons of info over at the TTT Arc.  Just let me know!

Bazookafied:

That head indeed looks very nice.  I will definitely take it into consideration.  Is there a web site that I access more line arts to think about it?

EDIT: never mind.  I clicked the pic, thanks.

Been a while since the last update:  Here is what's done.

Finished right arms.  Adding a mechanical arm to support the rifle.

Wrote up the work done on the waist.  Basically move the front skirt armor from the waist block to the crotch.

The skirt armor folds out as canards in MA mode.

The arm looks really nice, could we have a close-up of it and see how it's attached to the rifle?

Sooo.....

Disappeared for a while because of a second baby at home.  Finally stole enough time to finish the feet.

The flat surface on the bottom gave me an opportunity to study and try out some FFS detailing.

Congrats for this second birth. There are lots of children here.

The whole mods are impressive. Before I read your comment, watching at the feet I thought about FSS.

The head won't be a piece of cake to do.

Wow, extreme makeover gaplant... it looks amazing!
Your mods are so intense yet not overbearing, they really mean this machine up. The chest looks amazing, and if you are going to do that to the head... than just wow!

But this looks great, the little dendrobium part on the arm for the gun is fantastic, and I love the chest, not to mention everything else. I've always liked the gaplant, can't wait to see more.

Amazing detail work! You've got a lot more patience and skill than me doing all that with the bottom of the feet. I hope this will be on a stand over a mirror so everyone can appreciate the work you've done!  :D

Good to see you at work. My wife always hints she's ready for a second, but I look at our life and think, "We're barely surviving the first?!"

Very cool!!! 8) I love the detail on the feet, that is great work considering it is such a small scale.

Finally found the adapter tube for the close up macro to take pictures.  This the Extreme Makeover Gaplant Edition.  I had to be careful because there is not alot of space around the neck area.  Interestingly, the MA mode actually gives less space behind the head than the MS mode.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/gtetra/HGUC%20Gaplant/IMG_2605s.jpg

I started by trimming down the chin and apply plaplate to give it a nose job.  I build up the forehead and the helmet to give it some bulk. The plaplate are used to build the housing for optics.  I lost the piece for the back of the head during the move to my new house, so I build a new one using plaplate.  Some snake chains will connect from the back of the head to the body.

Right now, just need some touch up with putty, PS eye lense and the head is done.
