Chaos Chopper
« on: May 24, 2007, 06:08:21 PM »
This is a Warhammer 40k Chaos assault bike bashed with Darth Maul lightsabre for new forks and new front frame and trees. This lil' sucker is only as tall as a quarter. I plan to work larger than the Warhammer scale, the miniatures are killing my eyes and hands...

I forgot to add this to the rules for THIS GB, but GBs are for starting new projects. This looks pretty nice and interesting though, but it's already done! :P

No No I got ya, Just throwing the "inspiration" piece out there. I'm currently pouring through my bits fer any useable parts. I hope to have my rough sketches up this coming week. I'm kinda goin' a wierd route with this first idea and the ADD doesn't always give me the ability to make clear and concise thoughts. Digging through my reference materials I saw this and remebered what I wanted to do with it but hated the idea of doing in the 40K scale. So short of time & short of mind I threw up the post as well as the working title: Chaos Chopper. Sorry for the confusionisms...

Well I did some basic sketches today to outline my ideas. These are pretty rough because I didn't wanna waste alot of time planning when I know the parts will "tell" me where they should go. This melding of man and machine has been a central theme of my non-Gundam models and I hope it gives this GP racer an interesting twist...

It's not a true trike but the three wheel, front wheel drive has the completely unconventional look that always facinates me. I'm also fighting with a 3D model in SketchUp 6. Still learning the prog so the going is slooooooooow.

I missed this for some reason. Is the one head gonna have a Kampfer shoulder armor for a face mask?

Finally some progress to report. I have the body and engine worked out as you can see below. the exhuast is a little ugly being heated and bent by hand from styrene tube. I'd love to hear suggestions if anyone has a better way to form the tubing...

wow I love what you're doing here, brings to light a side of sci-fi that wouldnt usually pop into mind when thinking of a racer or piece of machinery. I draw monsters but monster machines is awesome, Looks really original. Keep at it man, I want more!!

Gracias angel_ad, man and machine is something I fell in love with after seeing Evil Dead 2.  Ash with the chainsaw hand awakened a terrible flurry of inspiration in my teenage years. I still draw, sculpt and model with this vision... :borg:

another update...

I trimmed and glued the arms in place. The shoulders are compliments of undead horses from Warhammer as I had a ton of these parts. This also gives me a base to sculpt from.

I love the 2 part epoxy putty. Here I sculpted the the first layer of muscle. This multiple layer method gives better control over the final sculpt. Trying to do it in a single layer can result in some lopsided muscles.
     and progress so far...

Back again... I have the body sculpt about 85% done.  I like to work in stages with the putty, sculpting before it cures. My aim was to blend in the salvaged arms to the rest of the "skin" and I think I pulled it off. I'll hafta wait for the primer to see how close it looks. As for the exhaust the idea of a re-breather seemed better than the standard pipes I had going on before.  The piece mounted on the back will also serve as the fuel input with the flesh molded around the majority of the inner workings to further the mutated rider and cycle vibe. For the exhaust pipes I decided try using two different sizes of styrene tubes and after a few tests this worked out great, Thanks to Jim at my local hobby shop for the tip! I tacked the inner-tube on one end with some super glue, used a candle to heat the tubes and presto. The double tube method kept the tube from distending and flattening at the bends. Lastly the antenna was put in place and added bass guitar string for the conduit disappearing under the skin.

GRRRRRRRRRR! So I spilled a full glass of pepsi all over my workspace. I had to spend an entire night cleaning everything. Not spared the deluge was $320 worth of commission painting work. After I calmed down ... I decided to get back to work full time on the commission miniatures so there will probably be little progress from me for a few weeks. Oh and my daughter should be born in the next ten days or so. Next month maybe, who knows when I'll get to stop for my own work for a while.

That sucks man, I was really excited to see how this turned out. Something about how organic the whole thing is creeps me right out. I love it! Hopefully you'll get it done in time.

Congrats btw.  ^_^

wow some great updates, everythings taking shape nicely.

I love the putty work you've done but do have a wee sugestion, I think the 'upper body' of the bike (where the petrol tank would be if it was a real bike) could do with some areas being made to look like the back of the monsters head- if you get me???

P.s. I saw these and thought of you - images found from a google search "skull bike"

your project is kind of a meaty version of the first pics

nice paint job

maybe they can be a lil more inspiration

and unlucky about the spillage   :(. but congrats about the baby!  :D

WOO HOO !!!  I got something done. The 3rd shift and Lilith (my nine week old) have kept me very busy but I managed to get some modeling done earlier this week. I added propellant tanks along the back, It felt little empty. Also I did some rear suspension work. (note: the tire is for demo purposes only. I know, its ridiculously small)

Here is a look at the face Mr. Foo. I've resculpted it a bit to widen the jaw line and the cheeks to better fill out the helmet/kampfer shoulder. The skirt armor from an HG heavyarms to hide the transition from the sculpted flesh to engine materials...  I'm quite pleased.  ^_^ comments and criticisms welcome.
