Tutorial for extending legs on gundam kits?
« on: January 12, 2007, 04:58:57 AM »
Hi, first post in model help

I've seen leg extension mods used widely to give gundam models a better proportion

I'm going to be starting my V2 Assault Buster soon and i noticed Fichtenfoo himself extended the legs on his but it isnt shown how

Does anyone have a tutorial or even some W.I.P's that show a good solid way of doing it?

I'm mostly interested in extending the thigh armour but if anyone has other tutorials such as extending the ankle joint or lower leg they'd be helpful to everyone im sure

Thanks in advance

Thanks

Since I'm doing it with hollow HG legs I'll probably just fill the two cut leg parts with milliput then build it up with plasticard? I think you guys call it styrene?

What kind of putty are you using to clean it up?

Thanks

Is it possible to repost that link?
Using the search function I only get this thread for the legs extension and I would love to see how it's done.
Thanks

I couldn't find it with the board's search function, or a poke around Fichtenfoo's gallery, so would you mind sharing this build please? :)

Personally, I extended the legs on my V2AB by replacing the thighs with the MG F91's parts...

Thank's for the link Ezechiel. Now I have an idea for my future kits. Hopefully it can also help me figure out a way to do the same to SD legs too.

Basically I just sliced the legs in half and added a few sheets of styrene inbetween. THen sanded them smooth. Nothing special there.
Rust is beautiful.

I guess you used putty too after the sanding. Probably some holes were created during the sanding process. Let's say when I make this king of mod I want to cover my holes before priming, Which is better for the job Tamiya putty basic type or Apoxie sculpt?

Depends of the size of the hole. Big hole=epoxy. Small one=putty.

if you do it right you don't need putty... use a strong styrene melting glue and make sure the 2 halves of the leg are very flat and sanded smooth before gluing them to the first lengthening sheets. I ended up just applying some Mr. Surfacer (jar) IIRC.
