Amazing Figure Modeler #33 » My Magazine Debut!
« on: May 17, 2005, 06:21:51 AM »
Well, since the issue has hit the presses I can officially tell everyone to keep an eye out for Amazing Figure Modeler #33 at your local hobby shop (if they carry it), their website ( http://www.amazingmodeler.com ), or possibly at Wonderfest if he gets the issues back from the printer in time. The issue won't hit stores or their website till mid-june, but he might have advance copies to sell at WF.

Basically, I met the editor/publisher when I went to the Morgantown, WV show in November. He was impressed with my Malevolent Creature dio and the photography tear-sheet I brought with me to show of the lighted pics that are on my site. He was asking me what future modeling plans I had and I mentioned the Vorflugkontrolle concept. He liked it and asked if I could get it done by April and write an article. So that's the reason I put the Krote on hold and jumped right onto the other dio. It's also the reason I finished it so quickly and took so many in-prog shots. :D

Anyway, check out the mag if you get a chance. I was familiar with it before meeting him and they really have a lot of great figure painting and modeling tips inside. He's also sent me a bunch of back-issues to get a feel for the mag and I must say I was impressed with the content. Great stuff. The dinosaur issue really makes me wanna do some dino kits!

Normally their issues follow a "theme" like dinosaurs, horror, etc... issue #33 is their first potpourri issue so that's how Vorflugkontrolle got in so soon. I'll be doing other stuff for them in the future as well so I'm pretty psyched and am glad I can finally mention it!

Congratulations, FF!  I am definitely going to pick up a copy of issue #33.

Must be a great feeling to have your work published and appreciated.  I expect this will lead to other things for you and this board will get a lot more members in the coming months.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm very excited.

I anticipate a tiny traffic spike so I'm making this thread a public one so that people don't need to register if they just want to ask a question or comment about the article. That should help the flow a bit. :) The publisher said people would likely contact me about the article so this seemed like a good solution.

I'll definitely second that...

I'm gonna wait until Wonderfest and see if I can get it there...if not, I'll wait until June, and order it!

Congrats!  You truly are deserving of the recognition!

Well, I guess I'm the first...I've got #33 in my hands!  Picked it up at Wonderfest...didn't see any of you there, apart from qc...we had a great time.

I have some mixed feelings about Wonderfest, but I'll share those later when I post links to the photos.

 How did I get one before you?  They must have got them done just in time for the show...

Very nice, very nice indeed.  I'll take some pics and send them to you if you want...they used a lot of good pics, and some really neat fonts in the title.  It was well written as well, and I'm guessing you wrote it?  I did not get to meet the guy you told me about, he wasn't there...and by the way, I did not see the Defiant that your buddies were bringing either...of course I was only there Saturday...if they took entries on Sunday, they might have been there.

By the way, to everyone else, I won't post any pics of this article, so don't ask <_< this is the kind of thing where if you want to see it, go buy it. No one else that gets this mag needs to be posting it either. It wouldn't be fair to our Grand Pooba of Plastics. If we want to support him, and insure he gets in another issue, we need to purchase a copy.

Thanks. But not just for getting me into another issue, but for supporting the mecha genre in general. Want more mecha in your other mags? Buy the mags that have it.   They'll get the hint.

I'm looking forward to seeing the article though. It was written by me so THANKS! Maybe Scott didn't take the defiant. I was sure he would have. Ah well.

My issue came today! Figures since the IPMS meeting was last night and I would had liked to take it. Ah well.

It looks good. I'm surprised at how many of my in-progress shots they managed to fit in. I also got 5 pages which I'm surprised about. ALthough the last page is continued in the back and pure text. There's a lot of nice stuff in this issue including an nice anime girl kit which surprised me.
