That's one of the things you need to watch out for when you preassemble your kit - you look for areas where there's going to be tight fits (the one you describe, the typical elbow and knee joints, etc), and you sand those areas down - make it a looser fit. Then, when you add paint, it replaces the material that you removed, and ensures an accurate fit.
