If not, I'll just smash it with the sledgehammer out in the garage.
Remember to smash it in a plastic bag or something, otherwise the parts would fly all over and make a mess!
also, you'll have a nice bag of spare detail parts to use.
Sad to hear it take a fall. it suxxs!!

Round ??? + 2: "X" Marks the Spot

Well, I assessed the damage tonight, and it wasn't bad. The sledgehammer stayed in the garage. Just a small scratch in one side, and the exo-frame covers that nicely. Just to make sure, I did some sanding and re-priming.
Last night, before everything went screwy, I did manage to cut the additional X's for the exo-frame:
DUEL of the DIAS!
After the glue had cured for not nearly enough time, I started assembling the exo-frame. Tonight, I gave one side of it a test-fit:
DUEL of the DIAS!
Yeah, it definitely needs to be black. The HGUC Dom Tropen in the background is just my stunt-double for checking out how everything will look together. The other three sides of the frame are visible just behind the Hudson. The vienna sausage are there to prove to
Major Blah
that I may be crazy, but I still won't eat those.
After that picture, I finished all four sides of it, and now I'm letting the glue cure overnight. With luck (and low winds), I'll get the rest of the base components painted tomorrow night. I don't think I'm going to do much (if anything) for markings on the Hudson. It's busy enough already. Same goes for weathering. Busy, busy, busy...

Round X: Drum & Base

Well, I'm pleased to announce that the base is 100% complete:
DUEL of the DIAS!
The inner-piece is flat white, the outer-frame is flat black, and the triangular towers are German silver. The base looks beautiful stained with india ink. And the vienna sausage remains thankfully uneaten. I added just a couple waterslides and a bit of transfer lettering to the base (the transfer lettering went on before adding the outer frame. The Hudson is holding on to the wooden base with JB Weld. And that's pretty-much it. I think I'm rounding third base with my eyes on the home plate...
I even had time to cook myself a bacon double cheeseburger tonight (and I'm thankful every day for my cast-iron griddle).

Totally OT but entirely relevant in an odd sort of way. The Dollar Store had the Armour Potted Meat 2/$1. (same producer of the fine vienna sausages) I of course had to get a can and eat it on crackers for lunch yesterday. It's my once every 2 years craving and now it's filled. That's why the freaking cans are so small... it's the portion-size that more people can stand to eat. By the end of the can I've always had more than enough for the next 2 years.
Anyway... this years craving is officially blamed on this thread.

Is it like one can sized sausage or lots of small chipolata style sausages? I must admit this whole sausage in a can thing is new to me and I find it very disturbing!

O', the sacrifices I make for this board... Check back later. I'll actually consume a can and post relevant pictures. The quick answer is: It's seven or eight sausages crammed into the can.
Oh, and FichtenFoo? Potted meat is just
sick, wrong, and disturbing

Round 3.1428571: A Dinner Diversion
«

That's right... I will now reveal the great mystery of the Vienna Sausage. Make sure you click on the links to follow along in pictures.
STEP 1: Crack The Seal
That's right... pop the top on this can o' meaty deliciousness. There's nothing to be afraid of. Now, if this were the
normal
(?) Vienna Sausage, you would take this opportunity to drain out the preservative broth. The flavored Vienna Sausage seem to possess no such broth. Actually... I think these things would survive a nuclear holocaust from the safety of a Ziploc bag. Anyways... you should now be
seeing this
.
STEP 2: Check Your Can
This is where you make sure that there were no irregularities in the canning process. You'd be surprised how easy it is for a rat's tail or human thumb to slip into one of these cans at the processing plant. We're in luck,
as you can see
, there are no obvious manufacturing defects.
STEP 3: Plate Your Cuisine
Turn the can upside down over your dinner plate. With a sound akin to a fat man emerging from a too-small water slide, your dinner-to-be shall slide slowly into the light.
Note the brown gravy
. An unflavored pack of Vienna sausage would glisten like a rejected pack of midget hot dogs, but these are more... stained? A quick visual inspection reveals that these chubby fingers of meat are free from any defects or impurities.
STEP 4: A Delightful Dinner Experience
With all the courage you can summon, take hand of an eating utensil. A fork works best, but make due with what is available--or what you prefer. Truly,
this is a sight to behold
. Actually, sometimes it works better to close your eyes and hope for the best.
STEP 5: Moving On To Greener Pastures
There's nothing quite like a Vienna Sausage, but there's only so much of the exotic that most of us can take. After you've had anywhere from a half a sausage to a full can of sausages, you're ready to (quickly) move on to the
next course in the meal
. Enjoy!
In closing, I'd just like to say that I can normally eat a full can of regular Vienna Sausages. These Cajun ones were nasty. They tasted like they'd been dipped in rotten gumbo and left there. I ate one, and it didn't kill me. The second one had a taste that lingered--even after the first bite. I threw the other five at the condemned house next door. The possums can eat them. Better them than me. And the apple pie? Delicious!

Ughhhhh!!! That is disgusting...
I hope you did not get a nasty stomach ailment, from eating the Cajun Vienna Sausages.
Unlike me, bad clams... but I am much better now.
To keep things relevant, is there any more Gundam progress from the other contestant. :) Now that the base is complete, how much more work is there to do on the Rick Dais?

All of this reminds me too much of the evil demon goo in
Princess Mononoke
. I guess if I spent more time finishing this model and less time watching anime with my son I'd have more to show and wouldn't be making this comparison.
Sorry, been studying for an Adobe exam and have a training session to give tomorrow at work on the subject. Not enough hours in the day. :|

I've never seen a better in-prog thread, written with such candor!! I salute you for your bravery!
Maybe fulcy can add the sausages to his shop.

Eating those things was really "taking one for the team". You'd be surprised how good the regular ones taste, though, when you're camping and haven't eaten all day.

I can see it now... "
Free! With Every Order!
". I bet those would go great with the Tamiya canned bread.

I can't remember if I found those at the dollar store or the grocery store... I think it was the grocery store. I've had a lot of those little apple pie snacks, and (whatever brand) was the best I'd ever had. Plus, it killed the taste of expired cajun gumbo left over from the sausages.
Now... To get back to topic... My Rick Dias/Hudson display is essentially done. I'll add pictures as soon as Phil's bullet-train schedule slows down so he can finish up his.

Better yet, Fulcy should rebrand the Vienna Sausages as Mechaskunk brand Vienna sausages and canned bread.
Find a ghost food manufacturer, and have them relabel the cans just like the supermarket branded food products i.e. Kroger's brand pizza and cheese.
They can go on sale in the store, I am thinking it would be the same idea as the Tamiya Canned bread.
Seriously, I think it would work...

Now that we've moved the thread to a new "home" (the
Build-Offs & Duels
forum), I'll just give folks a quick update on where this duel is at...
Because life can always get in the way of the more fun things (like this hobby), the duel is on a temporary hiatus until such time as both modelers have adequate opportunity to finish their builds.
So why is this thread here? Because--with the exception of the long pause we're currently enjoying--this is one example of how to do a
Duel
in this newly-formed section of
FichtenFoo Forums
. Hopefully, it will inspire more of you to do the same (and hopefully, we'll have a chance to finish this duel before too many other folks complete their own duels.
