DUEL of the DIAS!

This is a duel of modelers! This is a duel of men!

In the red corner, weighing in at an ideal running weight is philgoodwin: moderator of a thousand boards, the Terror of Toronto, the Michigan Man-Made Massacre, the die-hard LOST fanatic!

And in the other red corner, weighing in at just under "obese" (according to the chart on his doctor's wall), is zerobxu: the Nasty New Yorker in Nebraska, the mediocre modeler living in a Uni-bomber shack; the blogger with no wit, wisdom, or appeal!

This will be a forty-three round contest, concluding on or around December 1st. The rules are simple. Each man has a HGUC Rick Dias (red). Each man will be building out-of-box. Custom color schemes and decals are allowed for this match-up. Each man will be posting his progress in this thread.

May the best man finish! And may zerobxu finish, too!

*NOTE: Phil and I actually worked out the details before I posted this, so if you have some zany idea of challenging someone around here to a build, you'd best get their permission first.

I think the closest I've come to reading Shakespeare in Latin is a fruitless attempt to read "Don Quixote" in Spanish.

Yeah, I felt this was a fairly original concept. Maybe. Two-man model build-off sharing an in-progress thread, with the only goal being to come up with a finished product by December 1. Same kit, different paints (hand-paint versus airbrush). Kinda like the Discovery Channel Biker Build-Off, but without the television, publicity, budget, material, etc.

I owe Phil a tremendous debt, with regard to modeling. He single-handedly encouraged me to get "serious" about the modeling hobby--in much the same way that FichtenFoo has encouraged me (both directly and indirectly) to enter my models competitively. What I'm saying is that I have a tremendous respect for Phil as a person, and I'm just happy that I can contribute to him getting back into the hobby which he's missed for the last couple years.

And that's why I'm going to mop the floor with him in this DIAS DUEL!!!

Here's my plan: I'm going to paint my Rick Dias pink, purple, and white. From there, I'm going to get some peace-symbols and flower stickers and happy-faces. Rather than warning markings, it's going to have words of inspiration all over it ("You are somebody", etc.). And instead of guns, it's going to have Pez dispensers. I'm going to design and build a flower bed (not to scale) for the "Chick" Dias to stand on. This is going to kick serious ass.

Y'know, it struck me as "new", but that probably just means I saw it somewhere else and forgot it. Is there really enough interest in duels to make an entire section out of it? I doubt it. Of course, that doesn't mean you can't get in contact with someone, and start a Models In-Progress thread with Duel at the beginning of the subject line.
