16 bits of fun

[Insert Diety], Please allow me to build this [Insert REAL LIFE kit] without turning it into something from the realm of science fiction. Allow me to build it to look like it's real-life counterpart for once without adding lasers, arms or legs, aliens, anti-gravity and/or other things that do not belong. Save me from this temptation to make things "cooler" in my own opinion and deliver me from this "dark side". Let me resist the lures of Magic Sculpt and Kotobukiya parts in thy mercy.

Amen.

I swear... EVERY FREAKING TIME I decide to build a real-life subject I get all these ideas for how it could look cooler as a sci-fi modified build. I have many dark and disturbing thoughts of making my Cobra into something "cooler" and more Kobayashiesque. Evil

What about you guys?

For me it can be shorten to "Please give me strength to OOB with stock paint scheme and no custom decals..."

The temptation is strong... LOL

Why fight it?  If you enjoy making the unrealistic look real, why stop yourself?  Tons of people do the military modeling thing, and ship modeling, and cars, jets, boats, you name it.  It's all been done, to death in my opinion.  They're very good, and it takes a lot of skill, but where's the creativity?  That's what attracted me to this hobby in the first place.  A tank's a tank, however well done it is, but put some legs on it, something NOT normal, then it's interesting.  (I call it Nerd Art).

Well... here's the reason for this post:

God, Please allow me to build this 1/35 AH-1W Cobra without turning it into something from the realm of science fiction. Allow me to build it to look like it's real-life counterpart for once without adding troop carriers, bug-legs, anti-gravity and/or other things that do not belong. Save me from this temptation to make things "cooler" in my own opinion and deliver me from this "dark side". Let me resist the lures of Magic Sculpt and Kotobukiya parts in thy mercy.

Amen.

Hmm, Matrix style anti-grav pads on a AH-1W Cobra...(/Nerdgasm)

Well, to satisfy your inner SciFi modeler, make the Cobra true to life, and just make the pilot a wet-wired cyborg ala Ghost in the Shell.

Quote from: "Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge"
This helicopter blends air capability with the Soviet love for heavy-duty firepower. In the air, the Siege Chopper uses its machine gun to harass enemy units. The real fun however, begins when it lands. It's then that the Siege Chopper literally breaks out the big guns, deploying a 155 mm cannon that is excellent for pounding away at heavily fortified enemy installations. This deadly machine is a must-have for any assault force as long as it is well escorted.

In the game, it literally lands and folds the blades and turn the tail into and artillery piece.  One of the most creative piece of weaponry.  Add that feature to your troop carrying cobra with bug-legs and anti-gravity generator, ye sinful man!! Evil  LOL

That sounds pretty cool. Seems heavy though for a copter.

This piece will be more inspired from Appleseed and GitS than anything else. Should be fun and I'm a LOT more exceted now about doing it. Cool

I'm thinking the bug-leg gear would be able to hold equipment such as boxes, small vehicles, and something I may build which will be a troop "drop-box". Basically a long can with a few doors to transport troops to heavily fortified areas.

Bah.  If a straight build were what you really wanted to do with your kit, you wouldn't need to appeal to a higher power to help you avoid modifying it....

Hi,
Not exactly sci-fi, but my prayer is:
"Please let my wife see the wisdom of buying a 1:35 Dora railway gun. Please let my wife see the reason for buying a 1:35 BR-52 locomotive. Please let my wife grasp the necessity to build a great diorama involving the two above."

Probably she won't let me...

I pray that my wife will allow me to do gundam / armour modelling
I pray that my wife will allow me to do spray painting indoors
I pray that my wife will not throw away any of my models on display

1.  O ye generation of Vipers!  Modify not that which is real, but only do that which is right in the eyes of IPMS.  Bring forth the FS colors, the custom decals for the proper division/version combination, accurize with resin and photoetch aftermarket parts.
2.  For those whose modify, modify not only the plastic of which they work, but the minds and hearts of the generation to come!  Snuff out that evil which is "mods"!!

Oobs Chapter 13: 1,2
