I've been working on this kit for a week or so now - an hour here, and hour there sort of thing.

Test fitting the parts.

I'm planning a few mods on this one, nothing major really (well not for the more seasoned modelers on these forums) but they will be some of my first real attempts at any type of interesting mod.

My planned mods :
LED in the head unit to light up the visor and sensor window.
Replacing the leg hydraulic shaft with brass rods
Replacing the power conduits with braided mesh

So far I've painted the majority of the bottom half of the model. I originally planned to have a grey/orange/white scheme but finally settled on a Char Custom (red/grey/gold) the perfect colour scheme for a Mobile Suit piloted by the Red Comet!

I only just finished the first part of the LED mod. I was tossing up whether to use green or amber but I settled on, well check out the pictures to see.

LED Mod - LED OFF
LED Mod - LED ON

Next up is the leg mods. Once that is done, I can finish painting the legs and assemble the lower half.

A more in depth In Progress can be followed here.

Comments and suggestions are always welcome so fire away guys!

But, wasn't the Hyakushiki piloted by Char to begin with?  ;)  Looks good so far!

Fulcy-

DUH!  :o It was Quattro Bageena! Quattro likes GOLD!

I probably misspelled his name... I may have also misspelled misspelled.

Red-

I look forward to seeing a tough-looking RED Shiki! I've thought of the shiki a ziilion times as a project, but I HATE Gold. Bring it on!

Is this intended as sarcasm??  Quattro IS char...

Well they have a red Shiki in the PS2 game AEUG vs Titans, which always strike me as odd...

Red Comet, I think the yellow glow when the LED is turned on is a bit strong, maybe you can turn down the power of your LED by a tiny bit (ie. adding resistor in series).

Quattro he is a Char! (a meme from /m)

Looking good so far shiki looks good in red. I'd almost like to see you go high-gloss on this kit.

Already thought of that. I plan to add a resistor when I add the switch and battery. I only attached the battery now so I could take some pics and see how it actually looked.

Sorry to cause a sidetrack on the thread. YES, I was kidding about the Quattro/Char thing, hence the wink   .

I agree with FF, gloss would look good. Than add some flames and it can be the partner for my Flaming Hot Rod Zeong! Okay, it would look good without the flames, too. Looking forward to more progress.

More progress on this model :

I've finished the colours on the bottom half of the kit.

It is starting to look good in Red Comet colours - even better when I applied the gloss coat. When my order from Mechaskunk comes I'll be adding braided sleeving on the rear of each leg to simulate the power conduits. Then all that is left on the lower section is to panel line and add decals.

The pistons have been changed also.

I removed the original plastic shafts, cut some brass tubing to the correct length, drilled out the piston cover a little to allow smoother movement, and inserted the brass. The only problem I'm having is that the glue I am using wont bond the brass and plastic together. I might have to try a small dab of hot glue.

Try some Zap-a-Gap to bond the brass to the plastic, as per the guy behind the counter at the LHS. Tried it, it works great.

Ah, you're one of the Australian orders I have open right now.  They are both ready to ship, and will go out on monday.  Thanks - and to stay on topic, looks good so far.  I like to replace the pistons on my kits with stainless steel rods - love the silver bling look...

Yep, that's right fulcy. I'm hanging out to get your parts so I can finish up the legs.

I thought about adding silver tubing on the pistons instead but decided that the 'goldy' colour of the brass matched the overall colour scheme better.

Update :

Last pieces are primed and painted (well only a few need to be painted still). Once that is done, I just have to wait for my Hyaku Shiki decals and option parts to arrive before I can do too much more to it.

In the meantime, here is a picture of the shoulder armour.
