Thanks Grail and Nico!

Another quick update!

Took me quite a while to decide what colour to use for the dark blue areas, and I've finally settled on a very dark grey.

I've also accented the top of the cockpit hatch with a nice bright orange colour, it took me a while to settle on that colour too, but I reckon it works well.

The metallic sections so far have been done with Alclad Stainless Steel.

Thanks for that link, they're pretty cool. I'm a big fan of retro modern things since playing A LOT of fallout! :D

Very nice kit, what is it? It reminds me of a Methuss a bit.

Model In-Progress / SMS 1/35 Freedom Gundam Bust
« on: June 02, 2011, 05:09:53 PM »
Last week, I finally received my SMS Workshop 1/35 Freedom Gundam bust, and I've been working on it since!

This is a ridiculously nice kit, a very clean cast apart from a few shallow panel lines but I've already rescribed most of them.

This is my favourite kit already :D.

I've used magnets for the most part rather than pinning) it comes with two amber LEDs for the eyes and forehead, and an RGB LED for the chest cockpit.

The orange Lucozade (the best drink ever) is just for scale.  B-)

Got some of the red parts painted up:

The last image looks a little odd because of how the light is hitting it, once I hit it with a satin topcoat it'll look much better.

Oh, and the grey part on the chest piece isn't going to be grey, that's just primer.

That looks like a clear yellow sprayed over a silver base to me.

I should have said a Group Scratch Build! :D

I'd love a Wall-E kit though as well, I've never watched the movie, but I've always liked the robot designs.

Why not do a "Clap Trap" group build? I know I'd be interested, how about you?

This is really interesting, I loved the Clap-traps and have been thinking of doing the same thing myself. Looking good so far! :)

The pigment and binders are made by a UK industrial chemical company called "Technico Surface Coatings".  :-)

I'm amazed someone who has the skill to recreate something so closely and cast it isn't busy building their own creations.
That's exactly what I thought. It looked like a modified recast to me, I can't help feel a bit impressed that they actually copied it so well from photos. It's just a shame that they're using that to copy other people's work instead of making their own originals.

I've stopped selling my paints on eBay now as I've managed to get my store finished. I've added some more colours to my range, bringing my total range up to 55 colours, with more to come soon.

My store's at for anyone interested in my paints.

If you have an airbrush and want to use Airbrush paints, you could give my paint store a try at .

I'd suggest a polishing compound after very high grit sandpaper, or a heavy coat of clear gloss followed by some fine rubbing compound. You should be able to get a nice deep finish.

Whoa nice work with the cement chips and graffiti! What scale is this arm? did you scratch build it?
It's a 1/35 bandai kit. :)

Pretty cool models. I would say that you need to spend a bit more time on the finish of your parts though, as I can see a lot of scratches and scuffs from the sanding stage.

I think it looks quite out of proportion, like the arms and shoulders are more 1/80 scale.

Any WIP pics coming?

Very strange indeed. I do agree with you though, eBay fees are silly. I am taking orders via email though at in the meantime until I get my store front finished on my website.

I'm also running a special offer for international customers, buy 5 get 1 free.  :D

I've always loved Warhammer/Games Workshop model kits, I've just never been a fan of the game itself.  :-)

It was my first proper "foray" into model making, my first ever model kits were Gundam kits though, a 1/144 G Gundam about 10-11 years ago.

I've been meaning to get back in to Games Worksop models as I've got a huge collection of unpainted kits and loads I intend to strip the paint off in storage.

Very impressive, I'm really looking forward to seeing more of this. I'd never been a fan of Ma.K stuff, but the more I see on here of it, I get the itch to pick up a few kits.  8)
