Kit Specifics / Re: Do All MG Strike's Use the Same Inner Frame?
« on: October 29, 2008, 03:26:21 PM »
Careful there guys.  The Strike Noir/E and normal strike DO have different internals for the arms and legs, meaning you can't just swap armors.

BTW, the link on your website for discussion leads to the Gold Frame Amatu

water or alcohol will work for acrylics, however I would use the alcohol since varying amount of minerals in the water will interfere with paint to thinner ratios.

You mentioned a 1/44 gundam x kit?  The legs of those are tricky to do since the pc leg joint is assembled into the leg.  What you will have to do is something called a C Joint mod.  This will allow you to insert the joint into the leg after assembling the leg.

How does the "in-progress box" when uploading an entry work?  I'm not sure what it means by "ID number"

Mmmah probably not.  I'll save thinking of an alternate elbow arrangement for some other project.

Hmmmah.  So I looked at the eye set up and discovered that it has a really dorky expression.  So, I rectified it with some epoxy putty on the helmet edge to make it more menacing.   Um...I also discovered I lost the Rising Gundam side cheeks, so I'm going to end up using the Shining Gundam sides lol.

I've looked at the lineart for the Shining Gundam and Rising Gundam closely, and even though they have similar features, the only real part that should be exactly the same is the torso.  The arms, and even legs are supposed have slightly different proportions than the Shining GUndam.  But...Bandai just used the HG 1/100 Shining Gundam mold and threw extras to serve as the Rising Gundam equipment.  My biggest gripe is that the face has a VERY different sculpt, but Bandai decided that the Shining Gundam's face would work out.  Oh well.

Extended the length of the naginata a bit

Swapped the upper arm with a 1/100 EW Wing Zero and made a bicep swivel joint

I don't see that many G Gundam or Gundam X kits despite the presumed underground popularity of their shows.

So, let's fix that shall we?

Mobility of these old kits comes off pretty bad, so most of the stuff I'll be doing will be so it can do those kick ass fighting poses.

1st thing I'm going to do is make the torso mobile, so I cut the torso into 2 sections.

Yes that's a needle in a broken mechanical pencil I used to cut it.

Not sure what section of the forum to put this in, but I'll be headed off to Japan in a few weeks and I was wondering if any of you have some suggested shops to visit that sell GunPla, other types of model kits, hobby supplies, etc.  I remember there's a store in Akihabara that sells almost everything you can think of, but the name is escaping me right now.  I'll be in Tokyo mainly, but I'm sure any of the nearby cities can be easily accessed.

There seems to be some bumpy texture going on around the red and white portions.  It's especially prevalent on the skull on the chest

I find it disturbing though that the SD has a better head than the MG version...

Paintjob looks good, but the panel lines are waay too thick.  If you used a pen, the width might be okay on a larger scale, but for something this small, it's too distracting.
