For kits that have a lot of pieces like this how do you keep straight which piece is which and the handedness? For instance, there are probably at least a few parts that are nearly identical on both the left and right side. And in general how do you keep track of so many parts?

I only thought you were using Nikon because you said the 50mm was $175 when you should be able to find it for right around $100 in most places whereas the Nikon one is closer to the $175 mark. Sorry to derail the thread.

I assume that means you shoot using a Nikon?
I really love the brightness of these colors. Clean build as usual.

The details are superb, down to the pattern on the bandana and even the handprint and initials on the concrete. The color for the candy is so vibrant. All the textures look so real and spot on.

Good luck finding it. The original Bandai kit has been out of production for a while. Luckily I managed to grab one from a stash of old Gundam HG kits that someone was selling on eBay a few years ago. The Swordfish alone was worth the $20 I think I paid for everything.

It could be the lighting, but it just seems too dark. Perhaps a lighter gray would have made it stand out a bit more. I feel like a lot of details get lost with the color scheme.

I used Blender a while back to create a model of Megaman Zero (from Megaman X) for an eventual costume I'm making. The plan is to use a process similar to how some people make Halo or Iron Man costumes. Anyways, I'd say that Blender is a decent program and the best part is that it's completely free. It can be used to make actual animations but you can also use it to just make a 3D model. Check it out.

Just a minor issue, but I didn't find any reference of the RX-79[G] having reactive armor. I could be wrong, but.....
Even if it is reactive armor, with the camo on there it just looks like a poor weathering job. Part of it is just that gray is primarily used for primer and if it's showing through paint then it looks like something went wrong. Just my input.

I also use Bondo (for resin kits) and am through about 1/3 of the tub just because it's very difficult to mix only a small amount. To increase the working time I just mixed in less of the red stuff (hardener) so in the end it takes about 5 minutes to dry, sometimes longer.

I agree....the gold looks a lot better now. My only comment is that seeing the gun with the rest of the kit makes it look like the gun was not painted - something about the gray makes it look really similar to the bare gray plastic.

I think the gradient on the "ZEON" is what bothers me the most. Otherwise the base would have been fine. Great job on the Kampfer though....very smooth paint job.

Thanks a lot! Coming from a figure master such as yourself is very encouraging. I've actually been working on this kit for a pretty long time and most of the techniques that I used were from you, including shading and building a light rig. I had some difficulties with pinning it together and eliminating some gaps (the one between the right arm and the body was particularly challenging) but I think it's one of those things that will get easier with more practice.
I'm using Future Floor acrylic to seal everything. In hindsight I probably should make the clothes flat as well. I did use Future + Tamiya Flat Base for the face to make it not so shiny. This way I could brush on Future for the eyes and lips to make them glossy.
A question about the sealers - why does Testor's Dullcote work better for 1/6 while Testor's Flat Lacquer work better for 1/8 scale? I did notice that you said you used Testor's Dullcote quite a bit in your WIPs but in the interest of not spending too much I just went with stuff that I had which was Future and Tamiya Flat Base.
May I ask a question? The finish is just a bit shiny - what kind of sealer are you using? Usually clothes, skin, and hair in that scale will look pretty flat. I use three diferent kinds of flat sealer - Krylon Matte for intermediate coats (for example, when I'm building up color and/or shading), Testor's Dullcote (a bit more expensive but convenient and really good for 1/6 scale and larger), and Testor's Flat Lacquer in the bottle (I mix it 50/50 with medium temp lacquer thinner and it dries DEAD flat - perfect for 1/8 scale and smaller).

It's finally finished. This is my first figure kit and I've been working on it for a long time since I've been trying to learn a lot of techniques, mostly from everything FilmMkr shows on here.
I got this kit from e2046 and it was a decent recast, but the wing part was a pain to clean up. The painting went fairly smoothly, but there were a few mistakes that required me to strip a part and repaint. I tried to emulate the techniques that FichtenFoo used on the lighthouse for my base.
Overall I think it's not too bad for a first figure kit. I've built two gundam kits before this, but I think this is the first kit I'm relatively satisfied with.

I'm always really impressed by your works. Your attention to details really takes it to a different level. You're always able to make a HG look just as good, if not better than most MG kits. Just curious....what type of paint did you use?
