« on: January 11, 2012, 10:35:43 PM »
Hey dudes.. I just finished this a couple days ago.  Also, If you haven't seen my new hobby site, check it out!  For those that aren't familiar, 54mm is similar to 1/35 scale, she's around 2.5 inches tall.

(lots of pics on my site)

Model In-Progress / Verthandi - Burning Ice - (54mm figure)
« on: March 21, 2011, 10:07:30 PM »
I bought this awhile back.  It's a 54mm fantasy figure from Andrea miniatures.  I'm working on this now because I just want to paint a figure and not deal with building/detailing.  Plus after the SCAHMS show, i'm in a figure kinda mood..

Some progress:

Model Gallery / 1/48 Tiger I
« on: March 20, 2011, 12:54:12 PM »
Hey guys. This is a kit I started over a year ago, then decided recently to finish it for some contests.  It's the Tamiya 1/48 early Tiger I kit, with some photo etch, resin tracks and metal barrel, with a couple scratch details thrown in the mix.  It's based on a real tank, so if you notice the upside down kanji, that's why.  (others have noticed on other boards, so thought i'd mention that)

Here are some progress pics.

And the final pics

This is a silver medal from the SCAHMS show yesterday!

Model Gallery / 1/35 U.S. Tank Commander
« on: November 10, 2010, 11:40:13 PM »
Hey dudes!  I'm back!  I started this at one of the local model meets, maybe in Sept. dunno.. anyways, I was trying to get it done for Orangecon, but never did because I didn't want to rush it, so I took my time.  I finally finished it today.  Sadly this is the only model i've finished this year.. but I think i'm back in the mindset of model building now after a long mental break.

The base (cobblestone sidewalk) was made with green stuff putty.  The leaves in the gutter were cut out of metal foil from a wine bottle.  That's pretty much it.. painted with Vallejo acrylics.

Model Gallery / HGUC Marasai
« on: October 18, 2009, 12:11:50 AM »
Hey again dudes.. here's something I finished two days ago

2nd place at OrangeCon.  They split the Gundam category into two "flying" and "ground" because there were a lot of entries, and since mine was standing on a base and not in a flight pose, it was stuck in the "ground" category, even though, in the Zeta anime, the Marasai is pretty much flying everywhere.. hah.. suckers..

Your basic HGUC kit.. seams filled, added some inner skirt armor detail, replaced monoeye.

Model Gallery / Fine Molds Tie Fighter
« on: July 14, 2008, 10:13:18 PM »
What's up dudes!  Remember me?  It's been a while since i've built anything.  I think the last model I finished was back in November 2007.  I just had to take a break because of burnout, plus I found other hobbies to take up my time (namely photography).. but it was only a matter of time till my closet pile called to me...

I finished this Tie Fighter a couple weeks ago, but just got around to taking pics of it tonight.  You guys might remember my Y-Wing from last year, as you can see, this is much cleaner looking in comparison.  The Empire likes to keep their ships in good order..

anyways, here ya go

« on: January 24, 2008, 10:28:49 PM »
Hey guys, remember me?  I'm still alive..just haven't been doing much modeling the past few months.  I got my photography bug back and it's been taking up a lot of my time.. anyways..

I started this chick back in September, around the time of the IPMS Nats.  Just got her finished last night.  She's about 95% hand painted with Vallejo acrylics.  Skin tones and hair are the only airbrushed parts.  My pics are kinda big, and i'm not sure if the pic size rule is still in effect, so here's the first, with a link below for a directory where the rest are.  Enjoy!

Model Gallery / FM Y-Wing
« on: August 28, 2007, 09:18:55 PM »
So I finally got around to taking pics of my Y-Wing.  It's painted as Gold 2.  The copper pipes are painted by hand with Vallejo acrylic paint.  The other paint is Tamiya acrylics.  Weathering was done with airbrush, washes, and mig powders.  All weathering and colors are based on reference from the Star Wars Chronicles book and screenshots.

Model Gallery / Ferrari F2004M 1/43
« on: March 18, 2007, 01:16:42 PM »
Here it is.  My Tameo 1/43 Ferrari F2004M Australian GP.  Michael Schumacher.
(group build is at automotive forums )

This model was a number of firsts for me.  First F1 car, first 1/43, first metal kit, first time using Finisher's paints.  Given all of that, I'd say i'm pretty happy with the final result, even though it's not perfect.  Definitely learned a few things not to do when/if I do another of these.

Paint is Finisher's Lumo Red and Pure White, covered in Finisher's Auto Clear, which is an amazing product.

The base represents the pit lane.

Anyways, here are the pics, enjoy.

Model In-Progress / Ferrari F2004M 1/43
« on: February 27, 2007, 11:06:53 AM »
Hey, I started this Wip already on automotiveforums, but thought you guys might enjoy it too.. i'm just going to post the pics and if you guys have any questions, i'll answer them, but here's a few tidbits.

The kit is 1/43 scale F2004M, which was the car used in the first couple of races in the 2005 season.  Made by Tameo, all white metal and photoetch.  Paint is Finisher's Lumi Red and Pure White.

This is a number of firsts for me, so it's been going slow.  First time i've worked with all metal, first 1/43, first F1 kit, first time using Finisher's.  Needless to say, i've had a few small setbacks but it's finally looking like Shumi's car.  Anyways, check out the pics.

Finishes, Decals, and Weathering / Rust texture Tutorial
« on: February 04, 2007, 03:30:16 PM »
Lots of people have asked me over the past couple years how I get the rust texture on my armor and mecha models.  Well, here it is, a tutorial about how to do it with some tools you might already have since we're all modelers here.

First a couple examples of what i'm talking about.

This is my Tamiya 1/48 Stug III kit, note the rusty mufflers:

Another armor kit, this time my 1/48 Hetzer

This is a mecha kit from Maschinen Kreiger.

This can also be used for cars too, Exhaust manifolds get rusty (well, stock ones anyway).  Go look at your own car if you don't believe me.. heh.. also Ferrari valve covers have a texture because of the way they're cast.  Car seats might have a fabric texture that can be simulated this way.

Here's my recent and still in progress 240zg engine's exhaust manifold:

Ok, enough for the introduction.  You really want to see the tutorial, so here we go...

Assembly/Scratchbuilding / Anybody work with white metal?
« on: February 02, 2007, 09:48:52 AM »
I'm working on an F1 model, it's made of white metal.  I've seen on some japanese sites where guys are using solder to fill gaps and build up areas.  I'm wondering if anybody's got experience using solder on white metal kits?

Basically I just need to know what solder to buy that's easy to carve, file, and sand, as soft as white metal is anyway..

Remember this guy?  I finished long ago, but never made a base for.. so here it is with the base.  It's supposed to be walking in a stream, creeping up on an enemy.. or something.. the water is made with acrylic gel.

and here are a couple of the old pics from before:

Here's my HGUC Zeta.  I finished it a couple weeks back, and it's not my greatest work, but oh well.. overall i'm not that excited about it, just glad it's out of the way so I can move on to other things.  The hands are B-Club.

Model In-Progress / Quattro Bajina aka Char Aznable 1/12 WIP
« on: December 28, 2006, 10:51:47 PM »
I haven't really been in a modeling mood lately, so I thought if I chose something from my stash that's pretty simple, quick, and fun, it might help give me a little motivation.

Behold, Char Aznable, known in Zeta Gundam series as Quattro Bajina.  This is from Hobbyfan as is all of my figure kits, is 1/12 scale which, as you can see in the pic below next to the PBR can (woohoo) is not that big, but it should be a good time.  I am going to put a coat of white primer on it since most of him is red and yellow (the two biggest color pains in the ass to paint )  It's only 4 pieces (head, arms, body) so it's going to require some heavy masking, but everything fits great as is... ok, on with the pics.

Model In-Progress / HGUC Zeta
« on: November 14, 2006, 11:45:56 PM »
Well, I started this model over a year ago, maybe even two years.. hmm.. not sure.  I put it away because I was bored with it.  I recently whipped it back out and this is pretty much as far as I am after a couple weeks off and on painting work.  It's not quite done, and I thought I might take a few more pics of the later stages of the building process.  I like my mecha beat up and weathered, so that will be part of the progress here.  I didn't take any pics before this one, mainly because I was just too busy workin on it..

Hey Guys, I finished this today.  The pics are huge (800 pixels), so I guess I can't post them  here since this board has limitations regarding pic size, but you can check them all out in my thread at the Automotive Forums car modeling section.

Model In-Progress / Silvia S15 (car)
« on: September 15, 2006, 08:10:39 AM »
I've been working on this for a while.  I have a thread about it on Automotive forums, but thought i'd post it here too.  Most of this is taken from the AF thread so some of the comments might seem dated... i spaced it out in the order in which I posted them over there

...the story so far...

I started this about a week ago.  I've been working on it off and on.  The instructions say to start with the chassis.. but oh well, I started on the interior first.  SAS seats, tuner style steering wheel.  I'm adding racing harnesses, but other than those few things, (and a front mount intercooler) it'll be mostly box stock.  I was planning to paint the body red.

The Bride logo is hand painted to be more like the actual logo. I added some texture to the seats, but now that I think about it, they probably would look better without it.

The interior is pretty much done (as far as paint anyways), with the exception of the harnesses. I'll try to get some better detailed pics when I put those in.

...

One harness down... It's not really accurate for Takata buckles, but I think it looks ok.  I just used regular buckles and some leftover tank PE parts.. the belts themselves are made from medical tape.
