Kit Specifics / 1/100 NG Exia Painting
« on: August 04, 2012, 07:39:31 PM »
Tried looking around, so I am sorry if this has been asked and I missed it. I have been able to find ways around most of the issues i've encountered that would make painting this kit a pain, but I am kind of stumped now. The knee joint is just horrible. Once assembled the thigh and joint are stuck. Additionally, the lower leg has that wacky design, and near as I can tell, there is no way to separate the white calf pieces from the core of the leg and have them glued/puttied/etc. Has anyone found any ways around this stuff, or should I just get ready to do a lot of masking? Thanks guys.

Model Talk / "New" Evangelion Kits?
« on: January 02, 2012, 01:57:56 AM »
I was on Hobby Search looking around, and I saw these. They're obviously newly manufactured for the film remakes. The kits have new weapons and feature new color schemes and some slight changes to some designs, and a heftier price tag (50 bucks for unit 02?). The thing is though, it looks to me like these are no different than the LMHG kits they put out, just with some new parts. I noticed the arms seem to be made in exactly the same way, which is a bummer. Can anyone confirm if these are any different than the old kits, or if they're just re-releases with some new gimmicks?

Model Talk / Stores in NYC that sell option parts?
« on: November 04, 2011, 05:18:14 PM »
I just moved here, after so much hiatus in life, and one of the things i'm looking forward to in my stability is to get back to model building. I found a shop that sells kits at reasonable price (when you factor in $10+ shipping from even the cheapest sites and that the sticker price is the price you pay), but they don't sell much in the way of supplies outside of some Tamiya stuff. So does anyone know of anywhere (preferably in Brooklyn or Manhattan) that sells Wave/Kotobukiya/etc parts and scratch building supplies?

Model Help* (Check Stickies and Search First) / Substitute for Aurora Film
« on: December 29, 2010, 02:47:28 PM »
Studio Reckless seems to be sold out of their popular Aurora film. I'd like to buy some, and would like to know if there is an alternative, preferably state-side? Thanks.

Kit Specifics / Looking for series name and kit
« on: December 07, 2010, 03:56:42 PM »
I believe they're manufactured by Bandai. It's a series marketing character, looks like a SD style frog character with an orange hat with a star on it. Usually features weapons or armor from mobile suits or other mechs. Just can't remember the series/kit name.

There doesn't seem to be much discussion on the Model Master line. I realize in handbrushing enamels are a good choice over acrylics, but is there a real advantage to airbrushing them? I am just trying to get the smoothest finish possible, and wonder if the MM line is finer than the Tamiya acrylics. They are the only two brands of model paint readily available here that are worth it, which is why I leave out other brands. Thanks for the info.

Model Help* (Check Stickies and Search First) / Pre-Made Ka. Feet?
« on: June 02, 2010, 08:29:39 PM »
I have MG GM Kai feet, but i'd have to do a decent bit of hacking to get the ankle guards to fit into the lets of my Quel kit, which means the Gundam Ka. feet will be the same. I need narrow feet and would prefer the Ka. style ones, so does anyone know if any person/store sells just the feet perhaps? I know Ako used to have replacement ones for the GM Kai, but that doesn't solve my ankle guard problem. I just figured by this point maybe someone had started selling casts or recasts of them since they're pretty popular.

I appologize if there was a thread on this, did some digging around and didn't see much, but that could just be human error. Thanks in advance.

Capitalism Corner* / HGUC Bawoo and HG Eva 01
« on: May 27, 2010, 12:26:36 PM »
I have a couple of kits I'd like to get rid of. I can sell or trade, just depending on what works for you. I'm mostly interested in 1/100 kits be it MG or HG. I have a 1/144 HGUC Bawoo Mass Prod. kit that's been snapped. I think it's the waist or neck someplace where a small piece was broken (got it off eBay), and the box is sorta beat up. I also have a 1/100 HG Eva unit 01 I have snapped, and the box is majorly messed up. Otherwise both kits have all parts/accessories and manuals.

Model In-Progress / 1/144 HG Zaku Warrior
« on: May 31, 2009, 09:14:56 PM »
This is the kit that I set aside to reintroduce me into Gundam modeling. I wanted to do something simple, but so some things to challenge myself at the same time. The idea with this kit is to build it as a straightforward kit with some light mods. I am rescribing most of the panel lines, will be adding some detail to the wrists (basically "cuffs" that move with the wrist joint) and hips, and widening parts.

So far I have made one thigh wider and have made the mono eye area shallower to give it a more aggressive look (also sanded the odd little "horn" like nubs off). Sorry for the bad lighting, this was just meant to be a quick shot to post what I am doing. I will post up more photos when I have moved on to the arm mods. Thanks for the look.

Tools / Chisels?
« on: April 16, 2009, 10:45:32 AM »
So I have been needing chisels for a while now. I have noticed chisel like blades for hobby knives but do these work as well? Are there any relatively inexpensive alternatives besides buying a set? Just trying to save dough before I pay for the Micro Mark set :/ .

Assembly/Scratchbuilding / Detailing Bits
« on: July 06, 2008, 07:25:54 PM »
So, I am not sure how they are referred to, but we have all seen them. A hole is drilled in a part, and backed with a small styrene square, and hole is beveled, and a small brass tube in dropped in, or sometimes a small metal ball. My questions are: One, how is the bevel achieved? I believe I have seen round ball styled files, but do not know what they are called. Where can I find them? Anywhere locally (Home Depot/Lowes/Etc)? Are they meant for Dremel style tools or can I used them in a hand vise? What size would you recommend for an MG scaled kit (and "industry standard" so to speak)?

The other question, is can I find the tube type pieces pre cut? If not, how could I go about making self made (all cut from one long piece) smooth and shiny? Also, what about the small ball style parts?

I didn't know how to refer to this so searching seemed sort of useless. I do apologize if this has already been posted. Thanks for any of the help you guys can provide.

Model Help* (Check Stickies and Search First) / 1/144 Zaku Warrior Builds
« on: January 19, 2008, 10:27:05 PM »
I am working on one right now in place of the HGUC Gundam I planned, and was hoping someone knew some links to sites that had builds of the kit or any of the versions, particularly ones with ankle mod in-progs. I looked in the Model Links list but never found much. Thanks for the help.

Capitalism Corner* / Advance Of Zeta- Looking For Odds N Ends OR MG Quel
« on: October 22, 2007, 12:06:57 PM »
So, Since the AoZ build isn't due for a whole year, I figured that leaves me with all the time I need. I have a GM Kai I am working on, and I figured it would work for this build. Long story short, I am looking for various parts that are used a lot in the AoZ works. Here is a list of what I would like to buy:

Weapons/Accesories:

Hazel Shield - Not sure if this thing has a more precise name. The long bulbous shield. I believe whom ever runs the Models4u website made resin casts of one he made, but his store is shut down. Are there any other ways to get on for a 1/100 scale kit?

Hyper Bazooka - Just curious if anyone had a 1/100 they wanted to get rid of. I know Ako sells them, but I figured I would check around to save money some money.

Kit Parts:

Quel/GM Custom Shoulders - The shoulder pads used on the GM Quel or GM Custom.

Quel/GM Custom Torso- The whole shebang a bang. Backpack isn't a necessity, but would help.

Ka. Feet - The AoZ kits feature the blocky Ka style feet. I have seen a lot of Japanese modelers use resin ones, where can I find them? Providing they don't SB their own and recast them. I may have to use the Ako Ka. feet if I can't get these.

Hazel/GM Quel/Custom Head: The Hazel one may be hard to track down. A Quel or GM Custom head would be nice if anyone has one.

Thanks for the help duders.

UPDATE - I am also looking to solve a lot of this by just buying a MG Quel kit. Anyone have one they want to part with?

Kit Specifics / MG GM Kai - Painting Knee Joints
« on: October 02, 2007, 01:26:45 PM »
So I am working on an MG GM Kai (obviously), and I am currently in the modifications stage (lengthened the forearms so far). I am trying to work out how I am going to do the leg lengthening (any tips on that would help), whether I try to make the leg armor removable but still have both sections the same length, or permanently affix the armor. Either way, I have to glue the internals.

My dilemma is how to paint the knee joints easily, especially since they added the moving pistons to this kit. If any of you have done it or know a site where I can get some ideas, please post it up.

Much obliged - Dazzle

Concepts / GM Type C Black Ops - More Than Grey
« on: September 13, 2007, 04:53:15 PM »
OKAY,

So I know I made a color scheme post, but this really is baffling me. In between working on what few kinks are left for my SD WZC kit for the GF, I have ordered the GM Kai kit, and am working on a color scheme. The idea for the kit is going to be a Stealth/Black Ops sort of GM, so naturally, dark colors are best. Problem is, I don't like the feel of something so dark EVERYWHERE. I really can't come up with a decent color that works with both the dark palette and the idea of Stealth. I have seen people here create some pretty sick color designs, so I figured I would ask for help from all you wonderful people.

I have two images below. The first is all worked out, except for the lower torso, inner cockpit hatch, vents and collar. The joint minus molds (or whatever they are called) and the tops of the hands are open to suggestion, the white just looked nice. The second is more or less a final scheme, the tan seemed all right, but I don't really know if it flows well.

*Ignore the tops of the feet, they should be darker grey, I just forgot to fill those in.

Alrighty, thanks for the help. And if this topic is against any rules lock it. I apologize if it is, I just thought there was a legitimate way to post color scheme ideas or something to that effect.

Capitalism Corner* / Hasegawa 1/72 Valkyrie
« on: August 29, 2007, 12:15:59 PM »
I am looking for Hasegawa Valkyrie kits, and I figured I would post and ask you guys. I am looking mainly for the VF-1S/J/D Battroid or the Super Valkyrie Fighter of the same type. Of course, if you have anything different, i may be interested in that as well. So post up!

Thanks.

Assembly/Scratchbuilding / Spinal Chord/God Gundam Head
« on: July 30, 2007, 01:10:48 PM »
So, I made a post recently regarding the construction of an RX-78-2 Beam Rifle/Launcher, as I PLANNED on the HGUC RX-78-2 kit being my next. Plans have changed.

I was browsing the MMC and in October I believe they are holding a contest for the "Most Evil" kit. My plan involves the MG Master Gundam in some kind of elaborate or menacing pose holding the God Gundams head with the spinal chord hanging loose.
"Silly boy, Gundams don't have spinal chords!"
Perhaps, but I think that showing "interals" would convey the brutality of the G Gundam's demise, thus making it more evil. Also, keep in mind the piloting system in G Gundam, it makes some sense I suppose.

Anyways, my question is, are there any "Skeletal" model kits that would fit that scale that I could get a chord from, and if not (which there probably aren't any), can anyone lend some tips as to how I could scratch build one? I thought of doing a robotic version of the human spinal chord, but I thought it didn't look evil enough.

Also, while I may have some of the members' attention, does anyone have a 1/100 (Doesn't have to be MG) G Gundam head I could purchase? I know B-Club makes the anime style head, but thats a last resort seeing as how I would have to pay a good bit because it is resin, and because of overseas shipping costs.

Thanks for all your assistance on the matter.

Assembly/Scratchbuilding / Beam Rifle w/ Grenade Launcher Material
« on: July 25, 2007, 11:44:08 AM »
After I wrap up construction on this SD WZC I am working on for my GF, I plan on doing a basic kit which would be a bit more challenging than the SD WZC (I am kind of doing a kit by kit re-entry into Gunpla). The kit decision came in the form of the HGUC RX-78-2. Great little kit, simple, but has some nice add ons. The only problem I have with it, is the weapons. They just seem so cheese-a-rific, so I thought I would do the AEUG Beam Rifle w/ Grenade Launcher attachment, but with the Rifle and Bazooka featured in the Rx-78-2 kit.

What I am asking for is something along the lines of In-Progs or even a Step-by-Step guide to making the AEUG Rifle/Launcher. I have looked around a lot of sites, and have searched the forums, but all I can find are completed photos. I have saved some, as well as the 2D computer line art that is in the MG Manuals for the MK II and RX-78-2.

Thanks for your help on the matter.

So, currently I am stuck with an extremely flimsy and unstable "Computer Desk" that my father bought me some years ago. It is just falling apart. The desk cannot handle any movement, and the chair is just as bad (I am like 6' 2" and 230 lbs, I need some stability), so I am obviously in need of a new desk.

Simple you say? Well, the only area I can put that bad boy is in a recess in my wall where the window is, which is about 3-4 feet wide. Are there any desks available that are of a good quality that fit in that little a space? If not, Does anyone have any tips for making something myself?

This may be a bit pre mature of me to ask, but some of you have some fancy stuff going on desk wise as I have seen, so I figured it may not hurt to ask  :embarrased: .

Thanks for your help.
