Model Gallery / Verthandi - Burning Ice (54mm)
« on: January 11, 2012, 10:35:43 PM »
Hey dudes.. I just finished this a couple days ago.  Also, If you haven't seen my new hobby site, check it out!  For those that aren't familiar, 54mm is similar to 1/35 scale, she's around 2.5 inches tall.

(lots of pics on my site)

Lookin' good.  I almost bought one of these myself in a shop yesterday, but spent my cash on a Kshatriya and Gouf Custom (hguc) instead..

Looks good.  Did you buy a mask for the aztek pattern or make your own?  That's one thing i'm not looking forward to if I ever build my 1701-A..

If this is really your first model ever, then you are a prodigy... and by that i'm not saying I doubt you, just that it's a very nice model.

Agreed. The flesh tone is looking good so far. Sculpt looks nice, but looks to have a rough texture. Probably the zoom though.

Yeah, when you look at it with the naked eye it's not so rough looking.  That's one annoying thing about photographing miniatures.. or maybe i just suck at prep work..

I bought this awhile back.  It's a 54mm fantasy figure from Andrea miniatures.  I'm working on this now because I just want to paint a figure and not deal with building/detailing.  Plus after the SCAHMS show, i'm in a figure kinda mood..

Some progress:

That's pretty awesome!   I love Star Wars.

Looks great!  Especially for a new modeler.  It must be friggin' huge too.

How does it stand up without falling backwards?  I'd think it'd be really back heavy with that big (I assume resin) backpack. Did you add weight to the toes or something?

Pretty nice.  Really diggin' the weathering job.  I have a couple of these kits myself.  I have one started, but it's in hybernation at the moment.. heh, heh..

Model Gallery / 1/48 Tiger I
« on: March 20, 2011, 12:54:12 PM »
Hey guys. This is a kit I started over a year ago, then decided recently to finish it for some contests.  It's the Tamiya 1/48 early Tiger I kit, with some photo etch, resin tracks and metal barrel, with a couple scratch details thrown in the mix.  It's based on a real tank, so if you notice the upside down kanji, that's why.  (others have noticed on other boards, so thought i'd mention that)

Here are some progress pics.

This is a silver medal from the SCAHMS show yesterday!

Hey dudes!  I'm back!  I started this at one of the local model meets, maybe in Sept. dunno.. anyways, I was trying to get it done for Orangecon, but never did because I didn't want to rush it, so I took my time.  I finally finished it today.  Sadly this is the only model i've finished this year.. but I think i'm back in the mindset of model building now after a long mental break.

The base (cobblestone sidewalk) was made with green stuff putty.  The leaves in the gutter were cut out of metal foil from a wine bottle.  That's pretty much it.. painted with Vallejo acrylics.

Thanks.  The kit doesn't come with any decals, just a few stickers.. which I tossed in the trash because stickers suck.  These are all custom from various sources. Some are scraps from other kits.  The numbers are from a Tamiya tank, some of those stripes are from a 1/43 F1 car kit, the little arrows and such are from a big sheet I got a few years ago from an online friend.  The 'nose art' on the shield is from a bandai gundam decal sheet. This one actually http://hlj.com/product/BAN934135

Yeah, at IPMS contests, the judges don't really know Gundams so who knows what they're looking for.

I know the owner of the Shin Musha, and the irony is that it's a kit that he doesn't even like.. he was just using it to try new painting techniques.  This is the 2nd contest he's got a first place trophy with it. hah..

Very Awesome!  I love pretty much everything about this.  The setting, the wall, the way the Brutish Dog with the elite pilot is cleaner than the Scope Dog, which has definitely seen better days.  I assume this is representing the battle between Chirico and Fyana early in the series?

Thanks for the comments.  The lightening bolts were masked and airbrushed.  I cut it out of masking tape using a template I made with Illustrator.
