Probably yellow stripes on the base are out of scale, but are perfectly chipped.

Exactly the same consistency.
I was using Tamiya acrylics only as base color for bases, but now.. WOW!
I know I'm not saying anything new, joust give it a try.
And don't miss X-22 Clear + X-21 Flat Base thinned with the Lacquer Thinner: a smooth and strong top coat that doesn't "frost" or kill color shades and you can choose how "satin" or "flat" it should be.

1/32 Revell (ex Moebius Models) Battlestar Galactica Colonial Viper Mk.VII
If you check the Moebius Models website or google images for "Viper Mk VII", you will note the real prop should be a light metallic blue with a limited amount of weathering.
The CGI model instead should be light grey with big metallic chips everywhere.
I have to admit, I'm not a big Battlestar Galactica fan: I have a vague memory about the Viper Mk VII, joust an idea..
I'm trying to represent with painting and weathering this my own idea of the "CGI" Viper.
The boring phase: putty, sanding, putty, sanding.. scribing.. putty, sanding, putty, sanding..
Moebius doesn't help: the overall appearance of this kit is like of a "short run": big plastic pieces, "soft" and large panel lines, simplified details.
It doesn't really bother me: I'm really interested in painting more than details this time.
PS: many details aren't correct if you're representing the real prop; it seems Moebius referred to the CGI model instead.. and still forget something here and there..
There is a photoetched cockpit from ParaGrafix for this model, but having the same shape of the plastic cockpit tub it doesn't add so much with a closed cockpit.. except if you will light your instrument panels and engines.. next time, may be

Cloud pattern of Alclad Dull Aluminium over Army Painter Black Primer:
Basic color: a custom mix af Tamiya acrylics with Lacquer Thinner.
I'm new to use this strong and smelly thinner but it really turns rough Tamiya Acrylics into some very fine and smooth paints!!

Alaya's upper legs seem Zaku lower legs turned upside down,
Alaya's lower legs are 1/20 Nitto SAFS body (I have many unused, this makes this project interesting for me
), as you point out.
Bike parts are really useful for this kind of build.. but not so cheap.
What kind of racing bike kit gives the yellow piece for the head, in your opinion?
Note Alaya's build has shoulders moved quite to the back, and the waist is really thin.
I have an open order at HLJ.com.. hope to collect enough info soon enough.

Added 20mm to the hull.
You can see my preproduction sample (Cream) compared with the standard one (Dark Grey)

I would like to enhance the "streamlined" look the Kastor has in photos from some points of view.
At the end of the day, I choose a completely different turret: commander cupola from an M-60 MBT
Its pancake shape fits well with Kastor style

The Kastor is my Sunday afternoon build.
I enlarged the side bulge for a wider turret:
Now I have to choose an appropriate turret
The turret won't be a real problem.. the fact is that I'm seriously considering the possibility to lengthen the hull by 5cm!

- simple shaped
- Periscope type with a large laser beam
- Basic Nutrocker turret (will be modified a bit)
The turret won't be a real problem.. the fact is that I'm seriously considering the possibility to lengthen the hull by 5cm!

I was waiting for this model impatiently, since the first time I hold the master model in my hands during one of my visits at Kallamity's lab many months ago.
Last week, Luca (Kallamity) was so kind to give me one of the test shots Michael (Industria Mechanika) send him before production run.
Waiting mine coming from US, I'm starting working on this one.
One distinctive feature of the Kastor is the big "Rail Gun" on the right side, but Luca was so kind to include an optional "Round Sensor" piece that could be use instead of the Rail gun.
It is perfect as an hatch too!!
The casting was good and pieces quite thick and big, so cleaning parts for matching was a matter of minutes.
During past months I started collecting pieces with the possible idea of building an interior.
Luca gave me the other one PC speaker he used making the master model, so I had something to play with.
Floor comes from an M113 Academy while all the rest from a BMP-3 Trumpeter.
Although Luca did a sketch about Kastor interiors, mine layout is different, considering I will substitute the commander cupola on the port side with a remote weapon station, too.
I know very little of my interiors will be seen peeping thorough the side hatch, so I didn't loose my mind about them.
Joust the minimum so they will look "busy" considering the Commander Figure will stand right in front of the opening, probably.
Luca chose quite thick walls for simplify casting, so the most relevant parts of this phase was a brutal sanding of resin.
There is still enough space to accommodate all the LEDs set up!
More about this, on the next update!

The snow was Rast Deranauo Vinylic Paste for Snow Simulation
Basic start: cork and and Andrea Miniatures base
From left to right:
- Tea leaves
- Sand from the back yard
- Bonsai earth
- Acrylic Modelling Paste
- Vallejo 333 German Tankcrew(Black)
Add Vallejo color to Acrylic Paste and mix with a spatula
Add tea, sand and earth and mix again
Never use water ! you don't need "mud" but soil.
Spread your mixture on your base and press your model on to simulate weight
That's most of what you need to know about a ground with Acrylic Paste.
But we're looking for a snow base, right?
So remove the top layer: we don't need so much paste; it will require so much time to dry and we're impatient modelers!
Let's came on stage Rast Deranauo Vinylic Paste for Snow Simulation
Add a little bit of water and mix, add a bit of vinylic glue and mix again.
The mixture should have the consistency of a cream.
If it doesn't, add more Vinylic Paste for Snow Simulation and mix till all the lumps are gone.
Spread your snow paste on the base like you did with the soil
Using a wet brush you can put the finishing touches around feet..
..add a bit of snow here and there on your model
You can break the surface touching the snow with a dry brush giving the idea of a trod area..
..and add some little pieces of snow paste to enhance the effect
You can even replicate "splashes" of snow
Leave it dry overnight.
You can add a bit of Mig Wet Effect where the snow is melting on the model.
This snow is easy to handle, has a good performance in photo but lacks the gleam of the real snow.
These are the same products I used in my Winter Warrior Hardboiled

OOTB build, modified hand, metal coil power cables, enlarged legs inserting 2mm plasticard plate between Wave Parts, resculpted joints directly over Wave PC pieces locked in pose with abundant cianoacrylate glue.
Army Painter Matt Black Undercoat Colour Primer and Anti Shine Matt Varnish final matt top coat.
Brushed Tamiya XF-2 White + a bit of XF-57 Buff diluted with water.
Remove white gently brushing with alcohol+water--> Worn Winter White effect
Add some touches with acrylic Ivory and some interest with your trusted oil colours and a fast drying diluent: Winsor&Newton White Spirit
Light Blue is Humbrol matt 47, brushed over "J" decals, too.
About the face:
Vallejo Panzer Aces 337 Highlight Germ.(Black) as base color
- plus 333 Germ. Tkcr. (black) for shadows
- plus Vallejo Model Color 941 Burnt Umber and 819 Iraqui Sand for highlights and with an another bit of 819 Iraqui Sand for top lights like on the nose tip and bottom eye lid
Pure 941 Burnt Umber for lips and 333 Germ. Tkcr. (black) for iris.
Only 4 colors in all.
It took me some time reaching the "frosty" look I was looking for in photos without loosing some warm colors in the shades, plus the reflective transparent visors and the face hidden by the helmet required a lot of care setting the lights.
So I ordered a 60X60cm big soft box on ebay and used one of my monitor with a blank page as a background.
An illuminated background with its own light let me set a cold white for the background (a very light pale blue in the camera) leaving the possibility to light the model with a warmer light (5 Osram Duluxstar Mini TwistE27 23W Cold White arranged in a China Ball Lantern)
So I had the right definition of the subject on the background without missing the "frosty" look.
My Camera (Canon A590IS) settings: Program Av f/8 | +0.7ev | exposure:Centred Weighted | White Balance:lecture inside the softbox
Post processing: Automatic contrast, light/shadows->shadows:10%
