Model Gallery / SD Baund Doc
« on: July 24, 2011, 02:28:55 AM »
Finished this kit a few weeks back :

It was an OOB build, 2/3rds hand painted due to masking issues and has a Martian / Egyptian themed base. Another interesting fact with this is that it is the only plastic Baund Doc kit officially available from Bandai (there are many resin versions around in 1/144 and 1/100 but nothing in plastic).

Hi guys,

On July the 16th 2011, the 2nd Annual Australian Gunpla Builders World Cup was held at the Sydney Convention Center on Darling Harbour again as a part of the SMASH! Anime convention.

You might have noticed that BAKUC has changed names again too. No longer is it BMKWC but it is now the GBWC!

This year featured many new talents joining the regulars with many exciting builds on display. This video covers the GBWC stand and the entries contained within it.

For tons of photos see here : http://www.ghostofzeon.com/other/gbwc11/index.html

I will be updating my site over the next few days with a write up and will post the official results as they come to hand.

Enjoy!

Introducing the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam codenamed The 'Blu-nicorn'!

Straight up OOB build with custom paint job and base. Used Alclad II Chrome and Clear Blue to achieve the finish and panel lines were done with a Silver enamel / lighter fluid wash.

It is plastic tubing on the arms. It was the only way I could run wires to the LEDs in the wrist and still keep it firm. Overall, the idea was there but the arms and hands didn't turn out as good as I wanted. If I had run fiber optics from the body down the arm, there was a high risk of them breaking when the arms were bent.

Here is my latest, the SD Zeong!

A little bit of detailing done with a total of 15 LEDs installed (12 blue, 2 green and 1 red).

I'm not 100% happy with this one as the hands and arms aren't up to scratch for my standards. Still happy that I managed to get 15 working LEDs into an SD though! :D

Model Gallery / Gundam GP01 : The Hillside Hangar

A long time coming but it's finally done, the prototype Gundam GP01 inside the Hillside Hangar :

Extensive modding to the kit was done including pla-plating and scribing panel lines as well as adding an extra V-Fin and a special eye. Most of the base was scratch built using styrene sheets, rod and tubes. The figures used were HO scale railway figures. More info on the build can be found on the completed page linked above which also includes a video of the completed build in my new video 'Model Showcase' series.

Thoughts, suggestions and comments are welcome so let me know what you think! :D

For 1/100 scale stuff, trying using HO scale model railway people. They are 1/72 in reality but if you use them and them only, they are close enough in scale to work.

And they are really cheap too if you get them in bulk from eBay!

In Australia, Future is known as Pledge One Go. Comes in a white bottle and can be purchased from supermarkets and hardware stores.

Ako Creations has the Aurora sticker paper that can be cut to the desired size. It is the 3rd item down the list (Decal #15).

Each 'eye' was hand painted with clear orange over the silver. I was considering a different colour wash for the silver part, but I think I will leave it now.

I always putty over primer and never have any problems. Primer is the best way to find imperfections that would otherwise be unseen on the bare plastic.

Unless the plastic is melting or becoming brittle, I wouldn't be too concerned.
