Model In-Progress / Re: UC Hardgraph Core Fighter [1/35 scale]

This is looking really quite nice. I think the basic design of the Core Fighter is a bit goofy, but your execution of the kit is more than making up for it. I look forward to you peeling off that canopy masking!

None of the decals or paintwork is part of the kit. All original.

As for brine on Mars, I am keeping an eye open there. The data coming back from Mars is very exciting for me to hear. Then again, I am one of the those guys with a huge telescope in his backyard!

I did lot of little mods to this... from roll bars to paintwork, custom decals and more, which I won't go into here.
I wanted to build a destroid from a future Mars Base, after the original was destroyed in the Zent war.
The one depicted is for patroling the polar caps, hence the mainly white colour scheme and martian dust liberally applied!
Wave did a wonderful job on these destroids, this was a joy to build.
I hope they continue to release the rest of the destroid line...
Thanks for looking!

WOW! Really like the colour scheme, in fact it's very similar to one I completed a few weeks ago, looks like you got there first though. Great minds think alike!

I should post mine here too.

Really like your base. Nice work.

That primer has really united all the elements. Looks fantastic! Are you going to do any more scribing, or is this it?

What a piece of junk!

Seriously, great work. That circular saw is scary!

When I saw the subject line I thought 'what a nutty subject'... but you've really brought it to life. Great work!

Wonderful weathering!

I'm a big fan of the SwordFish II design. Yours looks great except for the gold, I would have possibly left that off, but still - you've done a great job!

I'm going to have to grab one. Although for what it is, I do think it's a little overpriced. Here's hoping for Assault Suit Valken next.

Fantastic build up. Just got the FERN-II so I'm looking forward to that. This is some great inspiration!

One question - are you sure the scale is 1/100? My understanding was that all the Platz resin kits for Yukikaze were 1/72...

Skin tone looks good. I wish the new Diablo 3 barbarian woman looked like this... great design.

Can you just run through your finish process - I'm especially interested in the grey weathering on the white.
Comp is finished now, you can share trade secrets!

Wow I like the tank, looks awesome, great sculpt. That paint up shows it off nicely as well.

« on: March 01, 2011, 04:30:59 PM »
It was funny, someone PM'd me that I won the scratchbuild comp because they knew of my work. I went to the page to see and confirm. After a big smile on my face, I went to get a beer, did a few other things then sat down to review the other winners. It wasn't until around an hour afterwards that I realised I had won BOTH categories.

The only trouble with comps is that I think I rush, and omit things that I would otherwise do. There were other techniques and things I should have done to this build like more decals, some more - subtle - weathering, probes, and some HUDs on the interior. But once I knew I was entering it, I just wanted to get it done.

So I'm guessing I'm saying it might be some time before I enter another comp...

Edit: just wanted to add as well that I'm an art director for a design team, and it's all deadline-driven. So something like this which I do for a hobby I naturally don't want a deadline for either! Maybe that has something to do with my reticience to do another comp anytime soon!

Wow, some really cool work here - love that spider mech!
I'm just starting to work in aluminium myself - just got a lathe and mill. It's wonderful to machine.

The finish on this this is fantastic - not overly weathered but you can tell she's been through some action.

That's a real beauty - almost reminds me of a Miyazaki tank. Well done.

Wow, if you had talked to me about the purple I would have shook my head - but seeing it, it looks fantastic. Very nice custom.

I love what you're doing to this. Going to be an awesome anti-aircraft/mech machine!
