Post by: CowWong on March 04, 2005, 11:21:18 AM
I went to alot of Gundam Model sites and I think you are one of the best in making models.  I've been coming to this site to learn more about making models cause you're techiques and skills are amazing.

I really wish you could make more tutorials on building models.

Keep up the work.

PS: I still don't know how you can build that Cave-With-The-Zaku model.  That's just insane.

I didn't accually know how far people took the Gundams.  I have always liked Gundams sence I saw Wing on TV when it frist showed on cartoon network.  Anyways I like what you do to the models, you really bring them out and make them look alive.

Hi,

I have been a luker on your site since last year, and I have been waiting for you to build your VF-0S for almost half year now.  I am not sure if you will consider building it or leaving it as a collector items.  Your skill is really impressive.  Would you consider a kit bash of the VF-0S to make it something like this:

http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/uploads/post-3-1117071389.jpg

http://photos.yahoo.co.jp/horton1485

The Japanese guy who made it didn't provide enough details for me to duplicate what he did, but it would be really awsome if you make a transformable VF-0S out of the hase kit.

regards,
macroadster

Thanks, but I have no desire to do a transformable modification. I make models, not toys, so transformation would be a waste of my time/effort since I'll never transform them. All the work would be destroyed by fingerprints and paint scratches.

I'll get to the VF-0s eventually, but it's not even on my to-build list for the near future. It's gonna be a while.   I know what I'm gonna do with it already and already have the decals printed... just don't feel like doing a plane just yet.

And for future posters to the guestbook... do not post images here.

I've been a fan of your work for a while.  Thank you so much for making tutorials for us less-than-experienced modelers.  I bought my first MG kit not to long ago and decided to take this up as a more serious hobby.  I've up to this point only done 3 HG Wing suits w/ very very light paint work (only the stuff that was casted in a totally wrong color).  Paint work was horrible.  On that note, just bought my first airbrush as well.  It should be arriving shortly.  I will definately be reading your airbrush tutorials more than once :)

Anyways, thanks for the awesome site and I hope to become a more-than-a-lurker member of this community

First off, thanks Fich for letting me and the other new fellas for signing up...I've been browsing on the site for a couple of weeks now before signing up and thumbs-up to everyone thats involved on the site.

Have had the interest on mecha modeling for quiet a while but only took action now,...I am currently working on a couple of HGs (I know, I know...but hey, we all gotta start somewhere right?!?) that I'll post In-progess pics on,well, the In-progress section.  Other than that, I guess I'll talk to you all on the forums...

By the way, I am in Japan right now and there's nothing sweeter than being here at the "source", if you know what I mean

Hi Fichten!... and hello to everyone here!...

I'm a member of "Titan Test Team Arc" forum, where I was translator of the Advance of Zeta manga...

Maybe I'm going to make Gundam models again (The last I did was the Gundam Mk II High Grade... in 2002 I think...), lately I've begun to get interested in resin kits, so who knows?

Being a Titan, I'm also developing a sort of fan-fiction where my models (and yours, of course) can live, at least narratively speaking...

After lurking a little here and in Penetrate Gunpla, I choosed this forum to confront myself with other modelers (TTT Arc is always in my heart, but it's not conceived to be a die hard modeler forum)

BYE for now!

Hey there, well after lurking for a few months I thought I would sign up (especially since guests can't see the forums any more  :D ).

I usually hang out over at Macrossworld or Starship Modeler, but there is some cool stuff here that keeps me checking in.

Thanks to sites like this one and BK's MaK site I have embarked upon a new era of modelling, you might say a more holistic approach, though right now I am just trying to finish up all my unfinished projects before I get stuck in again.

Cheers,

Berttt

Hope that I can get my skills sharpened and start putting together some high quality stuff with everyone's help  8)

Not a mech builder per se, but I've been at it through military stuff in my youth.

WeeHOO!! Made it in. Huge thanks to FF and zero for getting me in this joint and to whoever actually figured out my retarded email issues.

Onto the thing and the stuff. Some of you may remember me others may not....meh. Felt like going back to my old name sake for the hell of it. Names James Im from AZ. Real big these days into tuner cars and speed as Im pretty handy behind the wheel. Im also into competitive long range target shooting and long walks on the beach under the moonlight.

These days Ive been working alot on my MG RX-78-2 ver. ka and as soon as the friggin thing here Ill be starting on my Wing Gundam ver. ka....that is if it ever gets here. Ill be doing a good share of lurking as well as every so often popping in my 2 cents which is actually only worth 1 cent these days.

Well thats it for my little intro/hello thingymado. Annnnnd Im out :ninja:

Hello everyone!
I am a Italian modelist
There are new forum, I was writing a long time ago, but it is the first time that I write. I am a fan of science fiction modeling, especially meccha and similar activities, and for some years I devoted to sculpture models, drawn from my drawings. My favorite genre is the steam Punk and Cyber Punk, and hence the passion for Masamune Shirow, Kobayashi, Kondo etc. ..
A greeting to the whole community and soon, perhaps with some photos of my work.
Bye to everyone and see you soon

Hello everyone! I've been a lurker on these forums for a long time and finally got around to introducing myself and start posting.
I'm a modeler from the great state of Alabama.
I've been building models for several years (snap building mostly), and only over the last year and a half have I gotten serious about building and finishing my kits well. I've just recently started doing mods and conversions, and I still have a lot to learn.
I have a few models on the BAKUC site if anyone wants to check out my works (registered as epyon3245234).
I'm looking forward to good discussions here and continuing to learn from all of you.

What a pleasure to find such a complete resource for this hobby!

I'm a middle aged gamer, returning to painting and modeling after a long time away from the hobby. I live in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia, and share with many of you the challenges of building and painting in a small apartment; noise and toxicity are both to be mitigated as much as is possible.

I look forward to learning from the contributions of members more experienced and creative than myself so I can grow in both those dimensions.

I do primarily action figure customizing though recently started my own from scratch styrene vehicle. In future hope to do some mods to existing model kits. I have a few kicking arround waiting to have something done with them. Well hoping to learn a few new skills here and hope to pass on some of what I know as well.

Hey guys,

I am another new guy who discovered this forum after building (rather poorly) his first Gundam kit.  I hadn't much interest in Gundam until I started working for a new company here in Japan called HLJ.  But after seeing boxes of cool looking Gundam kits I thought I would give one a try.  I chose the MG Shin Musha Gundam as my first kit and loved it (although I changed the design some what to look more like yoroi than mech armour).  I had such a good time that I immediately bought the MG MS06R Zaku II ver 2.0 and took more time to make that kit.  Applying decals, panel lines, and gundam markers before final assembly.

Now, after seeing so many good kits here and in magazines such as Hobby Japan and Dengeki Hobby, I want to start scratchbuilding and custom painting!

I have already learned a lot just by reading through the forums here and I look forward to participating.

Hi everybody !  :D
First post here.
I've lurked around for some time now, and I've seen lots of great models. Now it's time to start writing a bit.

I'm a member of the staff of the Italian NKGC forum. I help them with gadgets and medals.
I know that some friends of mine from NKGC write here.

I love to scratch build models more than I love to paint them.
In fact my first model, made in 1998, is a 100% scratch built Boss Robot from Mazinger Z.

I love sci-fi and fantasy illustrations.
I was a videogame programmers (see some my videogames on my web site).

Take a look at my web site (http://xoomer.virgilio.it/alblon/index.html) to see some of my old models. Sorry: it's a long time I don't update it.

Hope my English language is good enough!  :embarrased:

So like, I've been totally missing from the fandom, again. >.>

Probably won't post anything finished. I don't think I've finished any models in a bout a year + now :( So much going on in my life, and I was making good progress on a NG Seed kit of all things. So maybe that has hope of getting finished, but it's nowhere near as awesome as the stuff you guys post anyway. :P

I just wanna go somewhere to check out all the new work you guys finish, and maybe post something rarely :p

Also, I lost a good 90% of my model kit collection, so I'm still trying to rebound from that. X.X (And I only just bought that Hydra Gundam too :( )

Hello everybody!

I have been visiting this forum since (nearly) 2 years ago when I found out what a gundam kit was (hardly seen in my country) and I really wanted to know how to buy one and build it in a decent way. Many time has passed and I've been building and painting more models using the huge amount of information posted in this forums. I have also discovered other wonderful types of kits although I usually am more attracted by the sci-fi theme.

Lastly, I have been more comfortable with the results of my models and the photos I can take of them that I have decided to show them here. Hope you like them or at least I can improve and correct my mistakes. I have put some of the photographs of my models in a web page, http://sites.google.com/site/plamonation/gallery (http://sites.google.com/site/plamonation/gallery),  where you can see my works.

Hey Foo,

Been a member for a while but never signed the guest book.

My name is Matt.  I live in McKinney, Texas (about 40 miles north of Dallas) where I own and run my own commercial photography business.  I have been enjoying your forum for a while now and have been very impressed with the quality of work.  I have a ton of started projects and have a hard time finding the time to work on them.  I hope to post some finished works here this year.  I do have one question,  what is the karma thing below members names?  I looked for an explanation but could not find one.

Anyway, thanks for running a tight ship.  It's nice to come here and know that I do not have to shovel through all the sh*t to get to the meat of things.

Thanks
Matt

Post by: FichtenFoo on May 08, 2009, 07:27:02 PM
Thanks Matt! Less shoveling is what we're about. The Karma thing is a weird reputation system. Basically users can "applaud" or "smite" other users. However we've set it so that only the staff and a few other  trustworthy individuals can use it. The system has potential for abuse and hurt feelings so we've limited it. Mostly we just applaud people when they do something exceptional. Occasionally someone warrants a smite but it's rare.

+1 Karma for a nice intro post!

Good evening everyone,

My name is Rich and I hail from the great white mitten.  My username says it all.  I've putzed around with a couple of HG kits and some smaller ones with my son until now.  I finally bought a compressor for my rinky-dink Badger 150 (which has never seen any use) and decided to tackle the MG Sazabi that I have been sitting on for 10 years.
I am totally amazed by the amount of information and the quality of work by all the members here, it's inspiring to say the least.  And a quick shout out to Mechaskunk!

Thanks, and I'll see you around!

I'm also a huge anime fan. Anyway this forum is excellent and I'm looking forward to great fun building models in the future.

Greetings,

I'm 31, and from Ohio in the US. I spent three years in Japan recently and caught the mecha bug, have been collecting ever since.

Of course my collection includes a number of kits, mostly Kotobukiya SRW OG, but a number of Gundams and others. I built (or pre-built to use the lingo) gundam kits casually for a few years prior to going to Japan, and I am now itching to start again with more advanced techniques. I do not have a lot of time for modeling recently due to graduate school. However, I have been trying to educate myself via these boards and others, and I am now slowly acquiring the recommended tools and supplies to start modeling again.

I will appreciate any helpful advice. Please, try to tolerate the dilettantish questions of this amateur.  ;)

Regards.

Greetings Fichten Foo and FFF members,

I'm 27, a commercial real estate mortgage broker, and Im from Southern California. For those who dont know me from Hobby Fanatics or BAKUC, I am an avid HGUC collector with an affinity to UC era MS. My goal is to complete the entire HGUC line, so that I may have every MS in my display case. It's been about 2 years since I decided to take this hobby seriously, so my work is not very good compared to the high caliber displays from members of this forum. Nonetheless, I am here to share, learn (especially with my diorama Im planning), and be involved. I also love fishing/flyfishing, hence the username UCangler. Hope everyone has had an awesome holiday so far. Thanks.

hey all
long time reader but never can remember my password. i have to say this is a very informative forum. i can always count on reading or finding something new to learn or store away in this resin dust filled thing i call a brain.

little background
ive been doing at least resin figures for about ten years, i find the prep and detailing the most enjoyable part.
well about this time last year i took a small interest in gundam, picked up my first bandai kit and cleaned and built in a nite then all hell broke loose and became obsessed. not in the story or history just some of the designs.
my second gundam build was pg astray, then i picked up my first resin kit, after harassing some people "you know who you are" about how much they spent on theirs i have turned into one of them and fully in love. i have all the detail i could ever want and in my favorite medium resin. so thanks to g-system and sms and now grand system i probably have around 150 pounds of resin in my closet......hmmmm wonder if thats considered hazardous???
anyway just wanted to finnaly say hi and everyone keep up their great work as its inspiring.

Hi Everyone!

I have been into modeling (mainly Gundam Master Grades) since 1997 and stopped around 2004.  The last kit I remember building was the MG Strike Rouge.  As of January this year I have rekindled my love for modeling by building the MG Exia Ignition Mode.  While searching the net for pictures of Exia I stumbled across this site.  All my kits have been out of box builds and I have always wanted to paint and customize my kits but could never build up the courage.  However since surfing through this site, reading the tutorials and spending hours in the gallery I have been inspired to break out my kits and redo them!

So thanks to Fichtenfoo and other modelers on this site for the inspiration!  I look forward posting up some work and developing my skills!

Thanks,
796

Well I guess I should start things off by saying hello to the board.

I am an avid modeler having done kits for years and having advanced to scratch building in more recent years.  Starting off with aviation models and advancing to military armor kits, I am primarily having fun with Warhammer 40k related modeling for the Imperial Guard.  I have had to learn to do a lot without good access to a workshop or an airbrush, being primarily restricted to what I can fit into a tool box.

So I guess I will leave the intro at that and just make the general statement that I hope to pick up techniques and continue to improve my modeling.

Hello all...I just joined the other day and have been devouring FF's wonderful videos and write-ups on the Millenium Falcon and skimming the forums as I build my first ever PG Gundam that I picked up on eBay a little bit ago. Really blown away by all the wealth of information here on the forums so far...can't wait to read more.

Hello everyone! I'm a huge fan of FF's work. I've been a lurker on the main site for quite a while. The bucket full of drool sitting on my computer desk can attest to that! I have only recently begun my first foray into the world of diorama construction, and this website has been an invaluable resource. Thank you so much for sharing so many tips, tricks, walkthroughs, and builds. Hopefully I will have something substantial to share with the community here soon! I am looking forward to your constructive criticism and feedback. Thanks for having me!

Hi! I've been lurking on the forum for a couple of years, and it just dawned on me to sign up. What can I say? I'm a slow learner. Maybe I can now payback some of the knowledge I've learned (stolen?).

I suppose I've lurked long enough, so it's time to officially sign up. :-)

Catching the eye candy updates through The ClubHouse and Starship Modeler is great and all, but why wait when I can go strait to the source, right?

Hey Fellas, been a member for a while now but realised i hadn't signed the guestbook.

Anyhow my name is Fil. i live in the UK (a little place called Yorkshire) and have been building models for about 25 years. spent 5 years working as a Eavy Metal figure painter for Games Workshop doing box-covers and book and magazine content. i have spent most of my time working at 28mm scale but do dabble either way. More recently started building my own Mech designs, destined for sale. lots of great peeps on here and just wanted to say thanks to Mike for running such a cool site along with all the other staff. nice work chaps.

tis all gravy :)

Just a quick reply to put my name on the guestbook. Like many, I've lurked here off and on and tried to soak up some of the talent that is here. While there are a lot of forums out there on the interwebs, few have so much talent condensed into such a small space.

As for me? I've been putting together plastic models since the Earth was green and dinosaurs roamed the land. One day I hope to be able to paint them as good as I build them. I have done some resin kits over the years, and have a few laying around waiting for my attention now. Currently work, school, and my wonderful wife and children take up the majority of my time, so my modeling pace has slowed quite a bit... but I refuse to let it stop completely! Most of my work from the last few years is 40k related and can be seen on my, sorely in need of an update, blog (http://www.theinnergeek.net/).

Hello,

Just joined the forum in preparation for a model I'm expecting for Christmas. By expecting I mean in a HLJ shipping box in my basement.

I found the site while googling the Fine Mold 1/72 Milennium Falcon. I'm mostly a figure modeler and wargamer who paints army style
(http://tyler.provick.ca/images/workbench/incmilitia1812-0053.jpg)
and collector style
(http://tyler.provick.ca/images/imscifi/infinity/inf_zero1_fin1.jpg)

I'm looking forward to expanding my skills to scale models.

Hi everyone!
My name is Efrain. I'm a mechanical engineer by profession. I'm just starting to get back into modeling after an extremely long hiatus. I had to rebuild my tool set including airbrushes and a compressor that I got from TCP Global. I have a really good start on a decent selection of tools, paints, brushes, Mig productions stuff and three airbrushes. I defiantly have a problem with all the little tools that one can buy. I'm a gadget person. I think I'm having more fun buying the tools than building a model (ugh! I know I have a problem). In the process of getting the tools,  I've been building up a kit stash that's just screaming out at me to be built. I won't really be able to start until after I've moved and settled into my new home.  I really like the site the way, and the way it's organized. I finally decided to join after lurking for a long time.  :-)

So glad I found this site and forum! I had the pleasure of competing against Mr. Foo. in a couple of competitions back in 2004 and 2005 most notably against his "Maintaining the Malevolent Creature" diorama. (Which was amazing and took gold) Charlie is my name and I'm getting back into modeling after an 11 year dry spell. Just a couple days on Mr. Foo's site and reading through the forums and I feel like I'm snapping back into the swing of modeling! My first project back will be a 1/60 Zaku II converted into a 1/60 Gouf Custom. Just waiting on parts. Cheers!
