I preassembled this kit today and I have to say that Im not too impressed. The ankles, while being double ball jointed, are thin and weak. The whole kit just seems weaker compared to the mk II v2 ( Which is very well engineered and designed) . Its like they just took a no grade kit , changed the scale, added a few gimmicks, and released it as an mg. It is unfortunate because I was really looking forward to this kit because it has tons of weapons. I had assumed that since this is the most recent release that Bandai would build upon the strengths of the previous kits and progressively improve thier designs. I wonder if the Aile Strike is the same
The mk II v2 was so well made in my opinion.  Im afraid I dont have as much experience with various kits as most of you. Is there that one kit that you feel Bandai really put alot of thought into? maybe a few? I apologize if this is the wrong forum.

I can sympathize with your disappointment,  You should read my thread on my GP02 MG.

Painting/Priming / Airbrush, Airbrushing, and Compressor Questions
« on: December 05, 2006, 12:06:36 PM »
Just got a free compressor.

My grandmother gave it to me, She got it from where she worked [ it was used in a bakery ]

Its a KopyKake KromaJet.

I was just wondering if anyone has any opinions about this compressor?

She also gave me the airgun they used to spray foodcoloring/foodpaint on the cakes and what not...altho I donno if I can use that with paints [ its an open top, you pour a tiny bit of material in the top of it and you can't sit it down until your done.]

I must have hit new topic, instead of post reply, because apparently I started a thread about it that was locked. It was an accident.

I have one pre built sitting on my shelf. When I look at  it, I do NOT see that kinda potential.

I had the idea since day one to mod some bays into it, even have the plans on how to build the micro missile pods around here somewhere..

now I just feel like a copycat tho, even tho I never saw this before today.

Reviving an old thread, I know.

But this is amazing.. I wanted to do something similar with mine [ without ever seening another one modded like this ]

Now it makes me feel like I'm ripping him off :s

Amazing mods tho, if I didn't know better I'd think it was the 1/144 dendrobium orchis.

I really like the look of this one! It has a certain UC feel to it, but its still mostly CE. I like the concept too! ^_^

Seriously, it does have a UC feel to it!

It looks like a production gundam, Which is amazing to pull off.  Damn fine work.

Should have bought the HGUC, cheaper and probably better engineered.

But not as big. I like 1/100th MG :(

Yeah, that's the unfortunate problem with the GP02A - it really isn't designed to hold either the cannon or the shield - and it can't really be posed that easily...

Its funny, Its two most prominant features..and it wasn't designed to handle them.

I have been salivating for this model for over a year, I just loved the bulky heavily armored design of it.

and I finally got it.

and tonight, I finally got it snapped together...and its a total disappointment.

The massive wing binders are held up by only a pathetic poly cap [ which means they will start to sag if the binders are " deployed " ]

No matter how you can't get the hand positioned on the atomic bazooka correctly without popping the shoulder out of its polycap.

and my most favorite part of the design...its massive shield, The model can't even hold it, and the kit is designed so that you can't even set the shield on the ground and just have the model hold the shield up by the handle.

I have not been this disappointed in a model kit since I built my GP01/Fb.

and I'm not even sure if I want to deal with trying to modify it to make it work like its supposed to....God this is depressing, to love and lust for something for over a year...and to finally get it and have this happen.

This is starting to look like Armored Core, not gundam!

Not that its a bad thing, Looking sweet man! :D

Reminds me of the Green Gobblin.

It would be a sweet little joke if you gave it some kind of green goblin personalization [ Like maybe a grenade painted like a pumpkin or something ]

Looks nice thus far, FF

Not too bad. Still not digging the visor though. Still needs some clean-up on the edges. Maybe a larger "eye" too.

Why not a cluster of 3 "eyes" in the visor?

Add to more tubes, increasing [ or decreasing ] in diameter [ don't do all 3 the same diameter ]

Make it like Thermal, Optical, and Night Vision.

All seem like ideal sensors for a sniper MS.

Its a brilliant idea and looks awesome.

But with the legs so thin..are you worried that it might appear top heavy?  I'm not criticizing in the least, just asking :)

I have at least 40 of those little things in my parts box  :D
But, a problem with using that are you going to attach it to the upper arm?
It needs a horizontal peg to be held in place and the Gundam has a vertical peg.
You'd need to scrath build a whole new upper arm to make that work.

I think I'm going to have to, since anything I come up with to accomidate the situation without structually changing the mod is way to derned big and fugly, and I can ony shrink it down so far consiering I'm working with a fixed sized polycap and peg.

Any idea I've had to make it a stand alone thing either failed or was just do derned big

then I was looking through my HGUC model boxes...and found this part, and with a piece of sprue managed to get it attached to the lower arm

now I'm trying to figure out how to attach it to the upper arm, Even if I have to modify it by cutting off the peg or what not.

The only problem is, these..I believe...are the knees from my HGUC Zaku II Char Custom...and I only have one.

But..I suppose I could disassemble the Zaku II Char and get one one out of it. I don't really care for the HGUC Zaku II Char anyways, very flimsy and feels very cheap.

My second MG 1/100 RX-79[G] and second HGUC 1/144 RX-78-2 gundams showed up I'm trying to remain attached to this mod rather than run off and build the new ones XD

Ok, so perhaps I was to hopeful to get away with this being a stand alone and easily removeable self contained mod.

two days of failure after failure with my incessant urge to overcomplicate things, I've come up with something that will soon as I figure out how to remake the upper peg to fit the new scheme.

I'll post pics later.

I don't get how this is going to work.  The upper arm area of the HGUC Gundam is occupied by the peg coming down from the shoulder.  If you were to plug that peg into your elbow block, the arm would be too long, and I'm not sure what the top polycap of the elbow would gain you in that case.

Thats the feeling I'm starting to get with the completion of this second prototype, whici is not a bad thing, seeing as it still has lead me in a new direction.

Now, instead of the build like you've seen thus far, I'm thinking of a rounded joint, that I think I can make more ocmpact.

Basicly it will be 3 rounded pieces, the poly cap attached to the middle piece, and the leg connected to the outside 2 pieces.

It came to me in a dream lsat night

But if all else fails,  I will have to break with my goal of not modifying the model itself.
