Title: MSB-118 Kampfer Striker (Completed)
Post by: Beunolas on November 16, 2006, 02:28:00 PM
My first ever WIP!

Ok, the idea for my Kampfer came to me last night while I was watching the Matrix Revolutions. I had been toying around with making my (soon to be ordered) Kampfer into a translation of the original word, meaning Fighter or Champion. I was going to do a knight style one, with Sandrock's swords put onto its back, a cape (Not sandrock's. A better one ^^) and weilding either the Grand Slam or a sword letter opener. Now, I was watching the Matrix Revolutions and saw the mechs all the guys were using...

http://ic3.deviantart.com/fs7/i/2005/228/3/4/Matrix_APU_by_kehlan.jpg (http://ic3.deviantart.com/fs7/i/2005/228/3/4/Matrix_APU_by_kehlan.jpg)

I thought to myself how badass the guns would look in the hands of a Kampfer. I had also been playing around with a third idea of making a newtype Kampfer using the mines as Funnels. So, I thought to myself, why not do all three?! Being money strapped, I cannot possibly afford 3 Kampfers, what with college so close...so I decided that I would take care of the modification criteria by making my Kampfer able to use different weapon packs depending on the situation.

Basically, my plan is to put the shotgun's into holders on the shins, much like the Ballute Pack

http://www.dalong.net/review/mg/m85/m85_14.jpg (http://www.dalong.net/review/mg/m85/m85_14.jpg)

and be able to leave the back free for the pack to attach into the bazooka hardpoints, the shotgun rack, and other various points.

KNIGHT PACK

Basically, it's as I planned it out before. It's just going to be the shotguns placed into their holsters (this is a constant on each model) the heat shotels loaded into where the bazookas would normally go, over a cape (I may end up ditching this idea), and the Kampfer holding onto either the grand slam or another sword, placing it into the shotgun rack when in disuse.

GATLING PACK

Ok, my plan for this one is basically to take my H-Arm gatling guns and modify the guns to make them live ammo, and to make it so they'll actually fit onto the Kampfer's arms. Besides that, I'm thinking of a mod for the bazookas to basically act like the Guncannon's bazooka's, but I may ditch that depending on time and school.

NEWTYPE PACK

Ok, this is the big one. I'm going to take the mines from the whip, and purchase two of the mine holders, if possible, to place onto the Kampfers back via extended rods to hold the racks behind the Kampfer. I will probably add an extra layer to hold the mines in place, now that they aren't connected by a cable, and maybe anchor them in with glue, or perhaps a metal rod. I will include my extra God Gundam Beam saber to be used as the main weapon beside the funnels.

As far as a color scheme goes, I was thinking something similar to the original, except accented by hard points of yellow. I don't know how to use a program outside of paint for image editing, but I'd be willing to check it out to upload a custom color scheme.

(Sorry for the lack of In-prog images for my Kamp. I don't have him yet. Basically, I made the thread to discuss my ideas and make it open for suggestions.)

I'm open to all suggestions on any part of it!

I really like this idea! Im really into the Knight pack, I can picture that in my mind, and it looks awesome! :P

Anyway, if you want some help with the lineart, I made a tutorial using Photoshop for lineart coloring. Plus its noob friendly!

Thank you very much Chopper dave! I'll put up a lineart tomorrow, and some pics perhaps (I've been able to find my shotels and gatling guns, so I'm going to snap the back of the Kampfer and see where I'm going to need to mod)

A problem has allready come up though, with the akward way the Heat shotels mounted onto the Sandrock's backpack. I may need to lengthen the holders for the swords that way they'll be able to fit onto the back.

Ok, I put up everything allready and forgot to take pictures (do'h!). So far, I drilled two holes into the sides of the heat shotel's holders, and put a length of plastic to attach into the bazooka hardpoints. I have to sand it down a bit, but it should be a nice snug fit. The heat shotel problem has been taken care of!

Also, I drilled out the holes for the gatling guns so that they are now live ammo. Besides that, I've done some minor construction, and some base work. I'll have pictures up tomorrow on what I've done.

sorry, late reply but your welcome for the tut! :P

Anyway back on topic, I really want to see some pics! Question, are you using the Katoki Sandrock's Shotels? or Okawara Sandrocks'? (I <3 Katoki ^_^)

Finished lineart! It borrows heavily on Dave's finished product (I will be changing the grey on the armor to black for the final one, so use your imagination :-D) Dave. if you have an issue with it, I can go back and revise it a bit. So far, I just changed the burgundy to the Burnt orange in the pic, and the monoeye.

Oh, and I'm using Katoki's Heat Shotels, along with Katoki's H-Arms' gatling guns ^^.

allright! Kampfer is all cut out and sanded. Just gotta get putty, prime and paint him.

The pics are progress on the packs. Basically, I just chopped out one of the runner pieces, and drilled a hole into the heat shotel mount to fit in. The gats are assembled and being puttied, the paint will be primed over, ETC. My plan is to loop the chain through two drums, out the other side and back in the gun to make it look like there is two ammo chains...or I could cut it. I may...I dunno. The beam sabers are going to be attached all over the Kampfer, as the Knight pack is aimed at a lot of close combat melee, and there may be one or two suprises in the end

Last one is one I took on my vacation. Look at the name of the hotel!

Also, I apologize for the blurry pics. I am not a photographer, but a writer ^^.

I gotta check out that hotel, but for close-up pics of small parts, use the macro function on the camera, it will help immensely, the icon for macro looks like a flower

painted, assembled. Need to clean up parts, putty and drybrush over the couple of seams still showing...and then decal him up, and do the other packs ^^.

You are going to putty AFTER you've already painted?  You are going to end up having to re-paint everything you just painted.

I originally wasn't planning on puttying, being the amateur (and forgetful) modeler that I am. But, now I feel like it needs to be better. So, it's an afterthought thing, unfortunately.

I see, well good luck! I like the shotas with the kampfer, they look really pretty nice.

thanks much Mtom. I think this is by far my best work yet (that's saying a lot if you look at my previous works...blargh), and I'm really happy with how he's turning out.

Just out of interest, did you intend on the colours matching those of the Halo Elites? :)

XD no. but now that you mention it, yeah, they do match the elites. Suppose I'll just have to make a plasma rifle now

I have been forced to rethink how I'm going to do the gatling pack. The ammo drums I have made are A) too large, and B) Too high up on the Mobile suit's back. I may drop it.

I may have pictures up after xmas.

Completely stripped off the paint today, and repainted it using Alclad Steel, with blue and green as the base colors. I reworked the mods, added an AC gun, the gundam hammer, a pair of fuel tanks, but the most noticable bit of the suit is still the giant honking swords strapped to his back.

Suit is Renamed to MS-118BS

Pics up tomorrow, it's nearing 11 here and I got work at 6 AM (joy...T_T)

I still need to get my decals done for him, but that's a non issue now basically.

EDIT: Teaser shot! http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=5640927

^^

Well...I woke up to a wonderful surprise this morning. Apparently, my sister somehow managed to knock my kampfer from the table where I take pictures onto the tile floor. due to the weakened joints from the simple green bath, BOOM! In total, I lost both arms, a fuel tank, both legs, both hands, and the head, as far as joints go. I get to glue the whole thing back together!!! T____T ugh...

I have a few pics I took, before he broke apart. Sorry for blurriness. I should have some better ones once I fix him.

(now that it's over I can reply to all the winners... wanted to avoid that before judging)

Congrats on the 3rd B. Personally I think you have room for improvement. The thing that stood out the most was the un-dealt-with seams. A contest is a good excuse to really push yourself to work on some of those aspects of the craft. The paint looks smooth in some pics, but bumpy in others... this is likely due to the metallic flecks playing tricks on the camera. Not too bad though and every kit gives you practice and experience to do better next time.
