Title: Requesting some questions for Kunio Okawara interview for AFA'08
Post by: sentinel011 on October 30, 2008, 02:06:11 AM
Just thinking it'll be good to gather more questions to ask Kunio Okawara (Gundam's mechanical designer) during a local event. The organisers allowed me to conduct an email interview with him, and possibly an event interview as well.

Any kind of question will do; but of course, it must be logical and and relevant to his work. You can either pm me the questions or reply it over here. Questions that are picked for the email interview will be posted onto AFA08's site.

More details about the event below.

-P.S. Do tell me if it's okay for this to be here; if not, feel free to delete this thread.-

Sounds cool. Just be sure to post the results of the interview.

Maybe ask his feelings on how many people in the mecha community bash his designs for being... well... Okawara-esque.

I'm cool with his designs, I just wish he didn't put them into weird poses. (backward-pointing knees, ARGH!)

1. What considerations to designing does he make aside from making it easy to animate?
2. Where does he draw inspiration from in making his designs? Particularly the phase in the 70's-80's and then the 90's onward.
3. What does he feel toward being forced to make recycled designs? Case in point: Raigo Gundam and it's add-on parts.
4. What designs did he have the most free reign in? (Like, without consideration for making it into a toy or being easy to animate)

Okay guys, please feel free to post your questions over at the official AFA08 site below. I'll be managing/sorting/selecting the questions along with the organisers, so please, contribute if you can! Thanks in advance.  :D

To grapefields: I'll appreciate if you are able to direct your questions to the site; makes it easier for the organisers to manage and credit you personally if your questions get answered.

Were those three questions the only ones asked at the panel?
