Digital Kit Design » Mon Calamari Starfighter Concept

While trying to decide what kind of potential mini-rig or other action-figure-sized vehicle to make after the INT-4f, I thought it might be cool to explore what a Mon Calamari Starfighter (aside from the B-Wing) would look like.

I wanted it to match not only the overall look and feel of the OT Star Wars universe, but also look as if it came straight from Mon Calamari shipyards, ready to take on the Empire off-screen.

The Mon Calamari Starfighter was designed as a digital kit using Autodesk Fusion 360. Due to the rush of constantly designing new monthly content, I have not been able to assemble or clean the one print I’ve made of it, however more than a few customers have built and painted their own. I originally started this project in action-figure scale, but it ended up at a size which may had been too excessive for many customers printers to handle so I scaled it back to 1/72 to go alongside many other official Star Wars starfighter kits. I always consider the intended scale/print-size when designing to maximize what can be done to make sure all of the details are crisp and not too thin or thick visually.

The Mon Calamari Starfighter was available to my upper-tier FichtenFoo Patreon subscribers as part of my monthly digital-kit drops during September 2021. After that month, the files were added to the Industria Mechanika shop as a retail-priced digital kit product. You can purchase the digital-kit files complete with instructions and print your own Mon Calamari Starfighter here.
