Completed » 1/350 Radiant VII »

Posted on Sunday, May 20, 2012, 12:59 pm, by Michael Fichtenmayer, under Commissions, Completed Models.

I recently was commissioned to do a quick paint-up of the 1/350 Scale Radiant VII resin kit. THis will be on the Starship Modeler table at Wonderfest in a few weeks as a sales display so check it out if you’re there. Same techniques I used for the Millennium Falcon so check there to see [...]

Kallamity/Industria Mechanika’s 1/35 Kastor Hovertank » Discoloration, Streaking »

Posted on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, 1:08 pm, by Michael Fichtenmayer, under Commissions, Models In-Progress.

The Industria Mechanika/ Kallamity Kastor progress continues with the weathering steps. First up I hand-painted almost all of the smaller details that would need weathering such as vents/piping and additional rust chips. The additional rust was Vallejo applied with bits of sponge. After that I applied a filter of German Ochre 502 Abteilung oil paints [...]

The Remora and Lillian G »

Posted on Thursday, February 2, 2012, 8:41 pm, by Michael Fichtenmayer, under Commissions, Completed Models, Industria Mechanika.

Well, here they are…  my two build-ups of Ian McQue’s Remora. The red one will be shipped off to Ian in a few days where he’ll do the final rigging and the blue will most happily collect dust in my display case. Overall these were a LOT of fun, not only painting/finishing, but building the [...]

In Progress » Remora Pair » Remora Paint-ups » Part 3 »

Posted on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, 10:04 am, by Michael Fichtenmayer, under Commissions, Industria Mechanika, Models In-Progress.

First up: You can preorder the 2nd Edition of this Remora kit now at Industria Mechanika! Finally I have a chance to continue with the progress posts. First up was the rusty streaks. For these I used the AK-Interactive rust streaks, light rust and their white spirits. I also used a small flat brush and [...]

In Progress » Remora Pair » Remora Paint-ups » Part 2 »

Posted on Friday, January 20, 2012, 10:58 am, by Michael Fichtenmayer, under Commissions, Industria Mechanika, Models In-Progress.

I finally finished doing all of the paint and chipping on the two Remora build-ups. For the most part, it was all the same hairspray steps described in the last update. You can see on the blue ship, the ‘Lillian G’, that I added an extra boom to the mast that I had scratchbuilt to [...]

In Progress » Remora Pair » Remora Paint-ups » Part 1 »

Posted on Saturday, January 14, 2012, 3:22 pm, by Michael Fichtenmayer, under Commissions, Industria Mechanika, Models In-Progress.

Been a very busy modeler since the last update. The nature of the paint-work, inspiration, and following Ian’s painting is making painting and chipping one part at a time a necessity for my own sanity. It’s very enjoyable and I love the challenge of interpreting Ian’s painting into realistic paint and chips on a physical [...]

Sorry for the update delay, but the holidays and getting the Remoras shipped out took a good bit of time. Now that they’re here and shipped I’ve started on this pair. The clean-up went smooth enough… typical sanding and whatnot.Working with the photoetch and starting to pin it all together is where I really started [...]

Sorry for the long absence from modeling updates. My work on Industria Mechanika has been keeping me very busy. However now I get to start building and painting the fruits of my labor! The Remora will start shipping from iMech in a few weeks and to help the anticipation go by I started on some [...]

Completed » X-Wing and Y-Wing »

Posted on Saturday, April 23, 2011, 5:34 pm, by Michael Fichtenmayer, under Commissions, Completed Models, Modeling.

Here’s a duo of 1/72 Fine Molds starfighters for the upcoming Death Star 2 diorama. Wedge’s Red 2 X-Wing and Gray Leader’s Y-Wing. These were painted just like the Millennium Falcon whichg is why there’s no how-to’s or in-progs. The markings were all painted on. The only decals I used were for the R2 units. [...]

Completed » Snowspeeder Quartet »

Posted on Saturday, April 9, 2011, 7:59 pm, by Michael Fichtenmayer, under Commissions, Completed Models, For Sale, Modeling.

I’ve had these 1/48 scale Fine Molds Snowspeeders almost done for a while now, but just needed to paint the pilot figures. I started painting them last week since I needed to paint a couple 1/72 Rebel pilots as well and finished them a few days ago. These were painted with Tamiya Acrylics, 502 Abteilung [...]
